Review: French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches from Burger King

Burger King has been busy with menu updates over the last couple of weeks.  Mozzarella Sticks, a Twix Shake, the return of the Rodeo King to name a few.  A newcomer to the breakfast menu are a trio of new French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches.  Now available for a limited time only.  Burger King French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches This is more or less how Burger King describes their French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches:

Rise and shine with our French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches. Your choice of either savory seasoned sausage, thick cut naturally smoked bacon, or thin sliced sweet black forest ham plus fluffy eggs, and creamy American cheese are layered carefully between two sweet, golden brown, and piping hot French Toast slices.

I sampled all three French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches.  Let’s review:

Burger King French Toast Breakfast SandwichStarting off with the headliner, the Sausage, Egg & Cheese French Toast Sandwich, my favorite of the bunch.  This one was the best bang for your buck out of the three because the sausage actually fits well with the rest of the sandwich components.  It’s seasoned as you’d expect a breakfast sausage patty to be.  A mild peppery bite coated in a nicely melted American cheese slice and a buttery square of scrambled egg.Burger King French Toast Breakfast SandwichThe Bacon, Egg & Cheese French Toast Sandwich was pretty pathetic.   It’s described as having thick cut naturally smoked bacon.  Check out the promo picture and all that bacon.  There were barely two half-slices of razor thin bacon that don’t get close to having the size and impact of the sausage patty.  The bacon version was my least favorite of the three.Burger King French Toast Breakfast SandwichI think the Ham, Egg & Cheese French Toast Sandwich was decent.  Ham is underrated in a breakfast sandwich in my opinion.  This ham wasn’t anything special, but it pretty worked well with the rest of the ingredients.  My biggest problem with the French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches as a whole was the actual French Toast.  The flavor was fine… a little sweet, a little eggy… the texture was an issue. They’re described as “piping hot” and I didn’t expect that, but come on.  Limp, soft and entirely too chewy.BK French Toast SandwichesAt a price of $3.79 each, these French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches are a dollar too much.  I used BK’s mobile ordering app for the first time and I have to recommend it.  There was a simple to access promo coupon for $3 off a $10 order so it fixed my “dollar too much” issue for all three sandwiches.  Burger King French Toast SandwichesIn closing, BK’s French Toast Breakfast Sandwiches aren’t a failure because they taste pretty decent overall.  I just wish the French toast had a better texture.  They made me want to revisit McGriddles.

Pros: Sausage version was good. Ham was decent. French toast sweetness worked well in a breakfast sandwich. BK mobile ordering app.

Cons: Sad bacon version. French toast texture was too soft and chewy. Pretty small for a nearly 4 dollar breakfast sandwich.

These are $1.99 at my local BK, but I don’t know how widespread that is. Still didn’t wanna try it. I’m an Eggnormous burrito guy when it comes to BK.

Speaking of, I still can’t believe Taco Bell is the one breakfast place that still hasn’t figured out how to do a good breakfast burrito. The grande one is okay, but nacho cheese mixed with pico de gallo just doesn’t make any sense.

Ryan, nice to see the posts coming in again!

What is notentioned is the size of it! All the pics & commercials make you think you’re getting something resembling a slice of french toast bread. It’s actually round, & a little smaller diameter then the croisandwich. It was quite small. Really a disappointment since i could have had 2 croisandwich’s for $4! (On sale). Amd ues, the bread was soggy & microwaved tasting. Fortunately BK can always make up for it with their awesome hash rounds!

    I agree with your review.
These sandwiches are now selling 2-$4, which fixes that price problem. However, I’m still not a fan because the “toast” is too rubbery and sweet.
