Review: Angus Steak & Egg Sandwich from Dunkin’ Donuts

Steak and eggs for breakfast is going to be awesome, right? I’m a working girl, so I know how it is with going to work, running errands, being at the grocery store at the crack of dawn so it isn’t crowded. With so many of us on the go all day, there are many breakfast items being made to fuel us through the morning. They all claim to be fast and filling and even as far as adding a hardcore meat in the mix to keep you satisfied until the next meal. Bigger, better, meatier, and fresher are always the promises restaurants give us to draw us into buying their breakfast. After all the commercials for the new Dunkin’ Donuts Angus Steak & Egg Sandwich, I wanted to try it on my way to work one morning.  I wanted some coffee anyway so might as well try something new. Bad idea.

Dunkin’ Donuts says, “Eat breakfast like a boss.”  The sandwich is a toasted onion bagel with a piece of Angus steak, egg, and cheese.
It was completely disappointing, bland, and a bit creepy. The first thought I had when the sandwich entered the car was how much it smelled like wet cat food. I mean exactly like it. That was the first big turn off. The bagel was toasted and a bit rubbery, like it had been sitting there for a while just waiting for its next victim.

The Angus had a chopped texture and was falling apart as if it was originally poorly constructed and then put back together. You would think a steak full of flavor would be great, right? This has a very overwhelming taste of Angus, to the point where it seemed like an artificial flavor they put into the meat. The Angus steak was also very peppery and dry. Actually the whole sandwich was dry and other than the meat, very bland.

The egg was a crispy edged disk that was only there for texture and the cheese barely made appearance in flavor. The whole bagel was about 2 inches thick, which made eating in the car very difficult. The Angus Steak & Egg Sandwich needed something to pull it all together like maybe a flavored cream cheese or ranch dressing to add another flavor other than peppery beef. It was a terrible sandwich all together and would not even try to entice your cat with it.  The smell was just awful.

Pros: Quick ordering. Something to eat if you’re in a hurry. Coffee was great

Cons: Lack of flavor other than the bad Angus meat. Very dry. Too big to handle on the go.

This has become a big farce. The big wigs at Dunkin’ Donuts are now intentionally both trying to ruin the company and spit in our faces.

Next time try Mcdonalds steak, egg and cheese bagel! Greasy, sinful, deliciousness!!!!

This was not a good product. I really wish DD would stick with the things it does best: donuts and coffee. I can’t imagine that the conceptualization, implimentation, advertising, etc. for all of these crappy products they offer ends up being a good return on their investment in time and money. Good review.

BTW, I’m glad you said it smelled like wet cat food rather than tasted like it. Otherwise, I would have started to wonder about you.

I was considering trying this, and am glad I saw this review first and saved a few bucks.

So this is more expensive than the McDonalds version and it tastes like crap? Glad I haven’t tried it yet then. It’s a shame really because it sounded pretty good…

Yeah I was very disappointed. But yay!! My first review for grubgrade! hope you guys liked it.

Great job on you first review!! And thank you for stopping me from trying this. The steak, egg and cheese bagel at McD’s is one of the few fast food foods I like enough to take the nutritional hit. I think I will stick with that.

had this, good thing I had a coffee or else I would’ve choked on the dryness halfway through eating it.

I don’t know that we have a Dunkin Donuts within driving distance of my home, but I’m less inclined to care now. I do have to say that I like the turkey egg and cheese breakfast panini, but I won’t be trying this angus steak business anytime soon. Good job on your first review!

    Good review, thanks.
This looks good, but wet cat food’s smell is feel like vomiting.
“Eat breakfast like a boss” is good phrase, but a boss never eat a cat food.

Not sure what to think about this, but can’t wait for DD to open up shops here in CO (not too long, and one will be a few blocks from my place). Love their doughnuts and munchkins (sp?) and been years since I’ve had either. Just can’t wait for them finally to open up here!!!!

Where are you all getting the MCD’s version of the Steak, Egg, and Cheese Bagel Sandwich? It’s been discontinued for about two years now in California.

The Mcdonald’s version is excellent, but after reading this, I think I’ll stick to my chocolate chip muffin and raspberry tea from DD.

I was really looking forward to trying this. I have loved McDonalds version for years and actually assumed that the DD version would be of better quality. But i noticed there was no sauce so i knew something wasn’t right. Great job on your review. I’ll be back at McDonalds in the morning.

Alexg I live in Fl and it is still going strong down here, delicious.

I hate to admit it, but I kinda like DD’s flat bread veggie egg white thing. And I generally hate egg whites. As for their donuts, I tried one after a long hiatus and was shocked at how salty and not at all sweet it was.

    Spot-on review!

I tried this “sandwich”. The meat tasted like salisbury steak from a school cafeteria to me. Gross.

To those of you who are thinking of sampling this, don’t. Keep driving to a McDonald’s.

  18. Brent says:

Love the McDonalds one…this one looks terrible.

Anyone been able to get a classic Dunkin Donut? The one with the handle built in? I asked for one at our local DD/Baskin Robbins, and just got looks of incomprehension in return.

It is what the place is named after!!!
