McDonald’s Frozen Strawberry Lemonade Isn’t Very Good

Wow, just awful.  Seems like it would be hard to screw up something like a beverage, but McDonald’s Frozen Strawberry Lemonade is a disappointment.  How much did I spend on this thing?  A buck fifty?  Sheesh, it tastes like grapefruit juice… and I hate grapefruit juice.

Barely a hint of sweet… just mostly a sour and bitter frozen abomination. I’d like to give McD’s another chance with this one, but why bother??  I’ve heard mostly negative things about this new summer drink and it looks to be a consistent thumbs down.  I recommend sticking with a sure thing and go for a large sweet tea for $1.00 and avoid this altogether.  The new McCafe Frozen Strawberry Lemonade is a good idea with poor execution.

My kids really liked this – then again they ARE kids. Ours had more strawberry in them tho’ – that might make a bit of a dif’.

I think you on something. I think it is so good! Seams like your tiring to speak for everyone but a lot of people really do like it and its really your taste. It is worth the money to me I love it!

  2. Mike N says:

Hmmm, I love grapefruit juice and hate sweet tea… I guess I’m the bizzaro Ryan. 🙂

Haven’t tried this, don’t plan to — I’m not a big fan of frozen drinks, other than Slush Puppies.

  3. MrVJTod says:

yep, it’s not just the strawberry, it’s not just the frozen lemonade. separate and together, the components taste weird, like chemicals or something artificial, not something delicious. as bad as their strawberry shake.

  4. Sara says:

I’ve noticed the McDonald’s in my town giving “buy one get one free” coupons for these in the food bags. I haven’t tried one and don’t plan on it.

  5. Greg B. says:

I have been downing them like they were “limited time” deals. My first one wasn’t good, but I gave it another shot and like them a lot.

  6. This is seriously the worst drink I’ve ever tried in my entire life. I had high hopes because I normally love drinks like this, but it tasted nothing like lemon or strawberry. It tastes like a horrible toxic chemical or some sort of chemical based cleaning product. I have talked to lots of people and NO ONE likes it! My sister works at McDonalds and she says people complain and return it all the time.

  7. Roger C. says:

It was AWFUL!!! This tested in my area and was awesome until it went wide. I used to remember liking to get it. I swear.

  8. J.B. says:

    Awful and bitter.
It was not so great last year either.
They had time since then to fix it and clearly they chose not to.

  9. Andi says:

I actually love this… But the execution is poor. When the syrup is properly mixed in, it’s good.

But on top of that, I eat lemons like they’re candy so it was probably made just for me anyways.

  10. Tyler M says:

My uncle loves these things, I thought they were alright

  11. Mike N says:

You know I almost want to try this just to see how awful it is after reading these comments!

  12. Christopher says:

Maybe it’s a regional thing. Everyone in Indiana adores them 😀 ultra-refreshing

P.S. By ‘everyone’ I mean the five people I know who have tried it.

    • Roger C. says:

Hmm, the last few comments make me wonder if the employees aren’t mixing it properly now…

      • Tracy says:

The employees at the McD’s where my son works are told not to mix them at all. You are to tell the customers to mix before drinking. Their prettier when served that way. I think it’s a stupid idea but what does a consumer know?

  13. Natalie says:

I’ve had these twice. Both times I just wished it was all the red syrup and none of the rest of the stuff. Once I’ve drank through the syrup it’s pretty gross. By the way, I think the title to this post is excellent.

  14. Saturn says:

I agree. It tasted horrid and artificial and the strawberry had a creepy metallic taste and smell. It was so revolting that I threw it in the trash.

  15. Kristopher Kachurak says:

The title of this article sounds like it was written by a nine-year-old. “McDonalds Frozen Strawberry Lemonade Isn’t Very Good”? Really? That’s the best we could come up with?

I agree. It’s not spectacular. But they seem to be pushing it for summer sales, and the local franchisees may have some trouble getting the mix correct.

This new drink is just another example of McDonalds deviation from their core products that both concerns me as a patron and enlightens me as a stockholder.

  16. Mandy says:

I sooo agree!! I got this on a very hot day a couple of weeks ago, thinking it would be delicious and refreshing! But it was sour beyond belief, and tasted a lot like syrupy grapefruit. I was very disappointed! Don’t waste your $!

  17. Tracy says:

The title says it all. These are awful! They day they came into my son’s McD’s he brought me home, baffled about how absolutely terrible and extremely bitter they were.

  18. Natalie says:

I got a free sample cup of this one day and actually loved it. You definitely have to mix the layers together but it was tasty.

  19. Marky says:

    I Just love these…………..

  20. Brian says:

Horrible review! I and everyone in my office love these! You have to mix the strawberry up first or you’ll suck all of it away in your first few drinks. These really hit the spot on a hot day!

  21. […] doesn’t like McDonald’s Frozen Strawberry […]

  22. Mike Collins says:

These things aren’t as bad to me as others are saying they are but they’re so unhealthy I only had 1 so far and thats it for the summer.

  23. Beccaboo says:

Terrible. Awful. I got one, took 3 sips and threw it away.

  24. Canadian Jill says:

Completely agree. Mine was bitter, and the strawberry syrup tasted more like cherry cough syrup than anything. I was so disappointed because I love frozen drinks.

  25. Gabe says:

I hate to see dicks on here being rude to grubgrade when, in all honesty, it’s simply a food blog written by a bunch of cool dudes in my opinion (I’m looking at you Kristopher Kachurak). It’s a blog, not a damn college essay. I think every one on this site does an awesome job at adding their own personality into each of their posts for the most part. He obviously was trying to be blatant and straightforward with the title, which i happen to find humorous and spot on. I am an avid grubgrader and it upsets me to see people going around and being rude to you guys. I have only ever commented on like one post, but I decided to throw in my own two cents.

If I were to ever want to meet anyone in my lifetime it’d honestly be the guys at grubgrade. I love what you guys do and I want to let you know that I’ve been following for about two years. Don’t let the haters get you down.

    Much love,
    An annoyed, food-loving seventeen-year-old

    • Ryan says:

      Thanks man 🙂

It’s ok though… I like that you understand where my mind was with the title. It was as straightforward as I could be haha. That said, I’ve been doing this long enough to not completely get caught up in every negative comment. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but not every opinion is expressed with respect. Oh well.

Thanks for being a fan of what we do. We appreciate it.

Another person not trying to write a college essay.

  26. Smoove says:

Ignore this post and most of the comments. This is a delicious beverage. They are complaining because lemonade is tart. Duh!

  27. DC says:

I had a coupon for a free small one… after a few sips of it I just threw it out. It wasn’t worth it even being free.

  28. Lizz says:

Read the bad reviews and tried it anyway. You were right, it’s horrible. Jokes on me!

  29. tyler says:

How about you go to the store and you buy some fresh lemons and strawberries and make your own instead of drinking this from-concentrate chemical garbage?

  30. nicole says:

i have not tried this but i really want to its looks good but then again u cant judge by looks :]

  31. Cynthia says:

DUH…what part of Lemon-aid do you not get. Lemons are inherently sour! It is not promised to be a sweet drink, just a cold summertime treat with lemonade and touch of strawberry. This is a great, tart and refreshing drink that will keep you cool and satisfied on a long hot summer day ;o)
