Food News: Beefy Crunch Burrito from Taco Bell

12/20/2010 Update: Read GrubGrade’s FULL REVIEW

Thanks to Jesse for sending this info in to GrubGrade.  The Beefy Crunch Burrito looks to be a test market item for Taco Bell.  Observe:

For the past 2 weeks or so, the Taco Bell by me (Toledo, Ohio) has been serving this Beefy Crunch Burrito. I haven’t seen it on their site or anywhere else so I figured I’d send in some info on it. It is 89 cents and has beef, rice, nacho cheese, sour cream, and red Frito’s in it. It’s pretty similar to the Nacho Crunch Burrito, but it does not have tomatoes, has red Frito’s instead of the usual strips, and is only 89 cents. It was a pretty good size and is also available in a 5 dollar box with a crunchwrap and another taco which I can’t remember.

Never has reading the name of a new Taco Bell item stirred such apathy within me. Every other item is Beefy or Cheesy and likely has a Crunch of some sort. To be fair, though, I’m mildly intrigued now, especially at the price.

  2. skippymom says:

The price has me hooked too. Although I think I can live without the fritos in it. What the heck is Taco Bell thinking?

  3. Justin says:

Taco Bell used to be Top Chef, now it’s like Sandra Lee’s Semi-Homemade.

  4. Raiders757 says:

Hmmm. I don’t know what to think. Can’t beat the price, that’s for sure. I used to jam Frito’s into my grilled cheese sandwiches, so I have no problem trying them in a taco. I just wonder if I can sub the sour cream for their fresco salsa. We don’t have them at my TB anyway, so I guess I’ll have to wait to find out.

  5. Rachel says:

Not a big fan of TB’s beef. I usually sub beans or chicken. Also not a big Fritos eater. I don’t think I’ll be trying this one, even though it is super cheap.

  6. Jessica Leigh says:

If this makes it to my local Taco Bell, I will not be trying it. I don’t like the idea of crunchy corn chips on my burrito.

just curious as to what’s the giant difference between a crunchy shell and corn chips? or corn chips with beef on top? or the million other things that combine crunchy corn chips and other ingredients on the taco bell menu

I really enjoyed the beefy crunch burrito. So much in fact that I’m trying to re-create it, but I could not find the red Frito strips anywhere. Instead, I’m using the chili cheese Fritos in my burritos for dinner tonight. Next time, I’m going to go to TB and ask them for a side of the red strips, haha..

  8. lshiny says:

Fritos used are “flaming hot” type, not regular. Makes it more spicy.

  9. Brian in Erie PA says:

I just got one of these for lunch today. I usually will try the new stuff when it comes out. Pretty tasty and filling with a bit of a bite. Ours are 99 cents though 🙁

  10. Tracey says:

Just tried the beefy crunch burrito in Holton, Kansas. Didn’t really care for it, did not have the real frito brand texture. Could do without the rice too.

  11. Stephanie says:

I love it! They have it here in Oklahoma. The Fritos are
the Flaming Hot kind. I hold the rice. 🙂 It’s .99 cents here. I am
    so hooked!!!

Ty for posting this Ryan. I happened to see the advertisement on their window for this while I was at a red light. But it was hard to see from the ran and traffic. I was hoping it to be potatoes instead of fritos, but the fact that they’re spicy fritos sounds awesome.

Glad to have found this so I can convince my wife to “think outside the bun” tonight

  13. David O says:

Seriously? Fritos on a burrito? Did 11 year olds design

  14. kevin says:

Im not a big taco bell fan, but i had this last night and it was awesome. This burrito is amazing and i recommend anyone to try it who loves food!

  15. tommy burns says:

they are amazing i am so glad they are back.

  16. We're going to Cthululand! says:

I was skeptical at first, but this is easily my favorite burrito now. The mix of sour cream and spicy fritos is like ecstasy in my mouth, and the crunch makes it all the better (sometimes, however, the fritos are soggy, which ruins the burrito, really). I do admit, not a big fan of the rice in it.
