Fast Food Review: Sausage Pancake Bites from Dunkin’ Donuts
Mmmm, mini breakfast corndogs… That’s sort of what I expected with the new Sausage Pancake Bites from Dunkin’ Donuts. Priced at $1.59 for 3, the taste of maple syrup, pancake batter and seasoned breakfast sausage can be yours. I just picked up a batch of 3 and it’s time to share my thoughts.
Straight from Dunkin’ :
Sausages. Pancakes. Enjoy them both with our new oven-toasted Sausage Pancake Bites. Get 3 pop-able mini sausage links wrapped in a maple-flavored pancake for only $1.59 or get 2 3-piece orders for $3.
I love Dunkin’ for their great selection of breakfast value menu items and how you can substitute egg-whites on any egg product. This new non-egg breakfast item is a welcome addition that combines sweet and salty and the harmony of syrup and breakfast sausage. Sausage Pancake Bites are pretty much a no-brainer don’t you think? The sausage and pancake taste combo is a favorite of mine and might just take second place to the taste of chocolate and pretzels. Dropping $1.59 is a small hit to take and a pretty decent value. Most mornings I don’t really feel like piling on breakfast, but a little something with a warm drink to get me through the first 2-3 hours is just fine. A 3-count of Sausage Pancake Bites is perfect for someone like me, but can also be a small, inexpensive side item to go along with another order… for the hungrier.
Sausage Pancake Bites don’t blow you away with sticky, sweet syrupy taste. The syrup taste and smell is there and subtly present. Maybe for people looking for more of a syrup taste there could have been syrup dipping cups, but I didn’t feel the need. I’m hearing size comparisons to golf balls so I’ll just go with that… they aren’t really golf ball shaped and maybe a tad under golf ball size. This probably depends slightly per batch and as you can see from the pictures, all 3 of mine were roughly the around the same size. The breakfast sausage is seasoned as expected and complements the sweet pancake batter well. I found the pancake batter to be a little on the dry side and not as toasty or “oven-toasted” as I expected. At 100 calories and 7 grams of fat per Sausage Pancake Bite, it’s not a huge hit if you just go for the 3-count.
I don’t need a breakfast sandwich with pancakes or waffles in the place of bread, but a little taste of pancake and sausage for breakfast in the form of a bite is perfect. The Dunkin’ Sausage Pancake Bites aren’t what I’d call perfect, although a good and inexpensive breakfast product. I can’t complain too much about a $1.59 purchase, yet all I can think of is new combinations, like bacon cooked into the pancake batter… would’ve been interesting.
Pros: Decent value. Nice blend of sweet/salty for breakfast.
Cons: Could use some extra syrup for dipping. Sticky, so not recommended for grubbing on the go. 3-count not too filling, so go for the 6-count if you need a meal. Batter should probably be a bit toastier.
