Fast Food Review: New Jalapeno & Cheddar BK Stuffed Steakhouse Burger from Burger King

OK folks, this is one of those “taking it for the team” moments.  I did not want to try this new burger from Burger King.  I fear this new burger from Burger King.  I dread the thought of what damage this burger will do to my insides.  The new Jalapeno & Cheddar BK Stuffed Steakhouse Burger is one of those items that I’d shy away from if not for GrubGrade.  I’ve got a stomachache right now thanks to my curiosity and dedication.  Shower me with  praise my good people!  I deserve it.

Other than my Cheeburger Pounder Challenge video, you won’t normally catch me and a big, greasy burger in a warm embrace.  Don’t get me wrong, I can eat… and eat a lot.  But I’d rather have a nice variety of smaller items rather than one big, fat item that will have me bored half way through finishing it.  Spending $3.99 on a burger isn’t really my thing.  I’d rather take a glance at the value menu and get 3 or 4 different choices for around the same price.  $3.99 for a big burger combo’d with fries and a drink and you’re usually looking at over 6 bucks of grub.  I rarely get fast food drinks and I’m only a fan of a fries at a couple of places.  So the realm of a big burger combo is just not my thing.  On this day, I just felt so out of place, but trudged forward and ordered this new behemoth from Burger King.

By now you must be thinking this burger sucked right?  Well, surprisingly, it did not suck. I’m super critical of Burger King on a lot of their menu items, but this spicy burger was actually good.  I wont go as far as to say it was anything great or exceptional on any level… better than average suits it well.  The Jalapeno & Cheddar BK Stuffed Steakhouse infuses it’s nearly half pound beef patty with cheddar and jalapeno peppers.  This burger also has a light slathering of a mayo-based poblano sauce on the bottom of the top bun mixed in with the lettuce. Everyone agrees with me that Burger King lettuce is terrible correct?  OK, let’s not go on and on about it.  The tomatoes at BK are usually pretty sub par too, but on this early afternoon they weren’t bad at all.  Heat-wise, the jalapeno-infused burger patty and poblano pepper sauce make a medium spicy mix that won’t do too much damage if you’re a wuss like me.  I like when something has what I describe as a “tasty heat”.  If it’s going to be spicy, let’s make sure it’s also got some flavor to it. Sometimes heat can be so overwhelming that it can be more painful than enjoyable.  I wouldn’t really expect pain out of a chain restaurant like BK, but you never know.  Although the burger patty had cheddar inside it, I wouldn’t necessarily describe it as “stuffed”.  It’s visible, but not really too noticeable.  If anything, it just give the burger patty a bit more weight to it, but not much else.

I liked the new Jalapeno & Cheddar BK Stuffed Steakhouse Burger.  Would I be crazy enough about it to order it again?  Meh, probably not. The burger was filling and had a smoky-peppery flavor that would be a welcome taste in a smaller value-sized burger.  If it wasn’t 4 bucks and a strain on the old ticker, I’d consider adding it to my rotation.

    I’d buy it.

Ugh. Not more jalepeno and cheddar. Give me a different
    flavor profile for goodness sakes!

Burger King has been run into the ground and their new
corporate masters have made them even worse. I almost never go
there anymore and this does nothing to make me want to.

I have to agree. BK has been one of the worst fast food places of the past decade and a half. Terrible produce and low quality burgers. Some of the worst bacon known to man kind, the creepy Magic BK, and horrible fries. The Whooper is a pathetic shell of it’s former self. The place needs a complete makeover.

This review is spot on (although I think 7.75 is a bit generous in terms of taste and a 6.5 is generous in terms of value).

The burger needs to be viewed in the context of the other garbge at Burger King. In that context, it’s not that bad, but it isn’t a good burger by any reasonably objective standard.

The patty is still crap. The produce is still crap. The cheddar cheese in the burger is meaningless. The star here I think was the sauce along with the jalapenos. There was actually a fair amount of heat in my burger, but definitely not on the unpleasant side. In fact, I would say the spiciness was just right for me and turned a bad burger into an OK one.

That being said, $3.99 is still too high for the quality of what you get. I can go to a greasy spoon place and get a better burger for about the same price.

Ummmm…,this looks like a nuclear bomb for the insides on your body, this is another misfire from the King and what a shame!

::worship, praise, love:: Thanks for taking one for the team, but if I was to go to BK there is no way I would even think of ordering this trainwreck, especially at a price of $3.99. Nope.

But at least I now know how nasty it looks. BK needs to give it up. Stick to what they know best Whoppers.

It’s as if Roy Roger’s started selling tacos. Don’t do it.

That looks like a seriously bad decision.

My insatiable curiosity about new food items led me to try
this a few months ago at a local BK. I agree that the lettuce and
tomato were garbage, as always. I didn’t get any of the chipotle
mayo on my sandwich, either 🙁 The burger patty itself was edible,
but not stellar at all. I thought they were too skimpy on the
cheese in the patty. They should have added a slice to the
sandwich. Anybody remember the Indy Whopper? It came out as a
promotion for the last Indiana Jones movie. It had this really
great spicy brown sauce on it that I would just love to have a big
    jar of in my fridge.

The close-up of the burger patty is just…really gross
looking. I don’t even know how Burger King stays in business. Maybe
they should focus on the quality of their ingredients rather than
throwing together peppers to mask the atrocious quality of their

Fast food restaurants need to imitate Five Guys and make all their fries fresh. The processed stuff is garbage. The bean counters don’t know a thing about how to get a customer in the door. Stop listening to them.

I praise you for eating that! I couldn’t. I am such a whimp with spicy foods! I mean, let’s just say that mild salsa is hot enough for me. I love getting all your food reviews so I don’t wonder myself. I trust your opinion! You rock!!

  12. this sounds pretty great to me, but i’m a sucker for anything burger king sells that will make you want to die after eating. which i guess is most of their products. angry whopper? classic. stupid indy 4 whopper? also delicious. anything spicy. love it. i gotta check this out. too bad it’s 4 bucks. lame.

did the steakhouse patty seem like a gutbomb to you? i used to like the steakhouse burger but since they made the patty “XL” its like OMBMEATCOMA. and i like meat, i can usually eat a bigass burger, but when its fast food “graymeat” it feels like youre eating a bland brick. i can handle it better when it a double cheese so the meat is tempered by plenty of melty cheese and you get more “grill” flavor on the outsides.

  15. wibia says:

The tomatoes look good considering it is the middle of winter. The burger looks good, I would buy it.

ANGRY WHOPPER was the greatest thing burger king ever had. im not even a fan of bk but i would travel miles just for that burger, it was so good i cant for the life of me understand why it didnt last. everyone i work with loved it too, everyone i basically know loved it

WOW… That is a tasty burger. Go get one now, I just had one and that’s exactly what I’ve been talking about.

  19. Nathan says:

The problem with fast food and its quality is that there are so many unknown factors that go into play when making your food. The quality of this sandwich, and all others, is dependent of the person(s) making it, serving it, AND ordering it. If you order it without tomatoes, then add your own, as I have just now done, it is not bad! It doesn’t look anything like the pictures in this article. It’s not as spicy as I’d like, so I added some hot sauce. With no alterations, the sandwich is enjoyable.

    • Nathan says:

Actually, this article is the first to have pictures that look exactly like the one I ordered. 😛

I’ll stick with the BK Double Stacker. Tasty burger and a better value.
