New Double Chalupa from Taco Bell

The latest LTO from Taco Bell is the new Double Chalupa.  You might remember the XXL Chalupa from years back (my review from 2010).  The only difference I can see from the Double Chalupa and the XXL Chalupa is that the XXL version had crunchy red strips and the Double does not.  The Double Chalupa consists of a an oversized Chalupa shell and a double portion of seasoned beef plus lettuce, tomatoes, reduced-fat sour cream, a 3 cheese blend, and nacho cheese sauce.  Suggested price: $3.49.  You can also get a Spicy Double Chalupa which adds jalapeño peppers to the ingredient lineup.  Nutrition-wise you’re looking at 600 calories, 35 grams of fat, 8 grams of saturated fat, 1010 milligrams of sodium, 50 grams of carbs, 6 grams of fiber, 5 grams of sugar, and 21 grams of protein.

    The Chalupa is my go to item at Taco Bell, but the XXL loses the things that make the Chalupa so good. Might get it as part of the $5.99 box though.

    Had one today. Same as the regular chalupa sumpreme, but a bit bigger plus nacho cheese sauce. Honestly, for an extra 50 cents you can’t really go wrong if you were going for the regular chalupa.

    I had this and it was tasty, got the spicy version. I didn’t get it in that type of container, but it was just in a wrapper, very tasty and lots of different flavors.

    Chalupa is not overly doughy, product has a good taste, but it is a sloppy mess you will have to use a spork. All the stuff goes out the other end.

    Won’t get it again, but it wasn’t bad.

    I just found a place that still has naked chicken chips, and my heart went pitter pat. So I guess I’ll have to drop my grudge against this thing.

    I had one of these last weekend, and it was actually the first time I’ve ever had a Chalupa in however many years they’ve been around for. I thought it was pretty good value as part of that $5 box with two tacos and a drink, but the Chalupa shell tastes way too much like something you’d eat out of a truck at a carnival. Probably won’t have another of these ever again.

      Welcome to the chalupa. A slightly greasy unsweetened elephant ear. Basically they’re always like that. I’ve always preferred gorditas.

    im a chef and know how taco bell works and what it isnt.. had this way back then but the double is simply an oversized chalupa with i guess double beef.. 20 grams of ptein isnt exactly cutting it.. that should have like half lb of meat and then the cheeese etc etc… and the worst part is that you get all that salt and fat for nothing… smh

    I’ve enjoyed the XXL or Double Chalupa the 3 or 4 times it has been available here. I don’t know if it’s just coincidence, but I’ve always felt as though the shell of the XXL/Double Chalupa was more fresh than when I’ve ordered regular Chalupas.

    This was a lot better then I thought it would be, not greasy at all, and pillowy soft. Great deal in the box, added a extra taco supreme and 4 cinnaballs and fed two for under $10
    Looks like they jacked up the locos taco prices by .30 cents recently, Jimboys is gonna win that battle :/

        It’s a smaller chain that’s been around a while, started in a little trailer up at Lake Tahoe. It’s what I’d call fast casual now. Fairly large menu, but the main claim to fame is the Parmesan dusted taco shell, with ground beef that drips this delicious orange grease as you eat it LOL They also have a awesome salsa bar
        The owner died, but the kids are trying to expand it now
