That is one premium-sounding burger, and it comes *with* fries for $5.49?? I’ve never been to a Steak n Shake, but that sounds like a heck of a deal!

Check them out sometime if you get the chance. They’re probably the most underrated burger chain out there. Even I forget to go there when I’m craving a burger even though they’re all over Atlanta.

A double cheeseburger, or a single bacon cheeseburger, with just okay fries is $4. Plus they are only 1 ounce patties. Not really a heck of a deal in my mind.

      • Peter says:

My mistake, I meant 2 ounce patties, or close. They are very similar in weight to a Wendy’s junior cheeseburger. From what I can tell, a double at Steak n Shake is about the same as a quarter pound single at other places.

    • Dank meme bro says:

The fries are really thin and cheap, same with there meat. But yeah, its not AWFUL for the price.

Steak ‘n Shakes are really good, especially when you are taking a long driving trip, they cannot be beaten for their value.

    • MP says:

Basically, Steak & Shake is premium food at Jr patty / small fry portions. No bigger than a Double Stack, McDouble or BK DCB. The fries are like toothpicks. I really like the melts & usually get that for $4.99 with fries. Haven’t had a burger with buns from there in forever & they usually fell apart while I was eating it. No idea now.
Also easily the worst chili I’ve ever seen. Just mostly beans & sauce.

That sounds awesome. Culvers has/had a Pepper Grinder Pub Burger that I enjoyed while on a Milwaukee trip.

  3. SS says:

Overrated. Think Big Mac. That’s about what this burger is like (size wise). It’s not bad, but it’s not great.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that it’s a double cheeseburger. It’s hardly that.

Hardly a value and not worth the wait.

    • MP says:

Exactly. The Big Mac has two cheap & thin patties with an extra bun & it thinks it’s worth charging $4.19+ for. It’s double the price it should be & honestly Steak&Shake is working off of that strategy. Like, how does a Whopper with no cheese cost more than a Quarter Pounder w/Cheese with same meat portion of two slices of cheese? Playing the market. S&S shouldn’t cost so much either.

Steak ‘n’ Shake burgers are great because they use fresh never frozen beef, their own special blend, and unlike Wendy’s they cook them to order. They smash the burgers for maximum flavor. And that’s why Steak ‘n’ Shake burgers taste so good. Now it’s true that waiting is no fun so here’s what you do: you order online or over the phone, and by the time you get there your order is already done and you can just pick it up. Like ordering a pizza but faster. When I go out for a burger these days I usually go to SnS. Their fries are also pretty good if you like the shoestring style.

I’m going to have to get this to test out the new bacon.

  6. Joe Cool says:

I’m sorry but that looks like pink velvet, not red velvet in the picture.

So tired of the red velvet fad.

    • Bubbsy says:

I think the pink velvet vs red velvet is more related to what sounds better, instead of accuracy. Kinda like how we call brown people “black” even though it’s not accurate.

  7. Stephanie says:

I love SnS but it doesn’t love me. Almost always got a bad case of the runs at one local one, even after I stuck to just the salad. Shakes are pretty darn good though.
Culver’s is now in Florida. Have to drive for 40 minutes to get to one. Love everything but the “green beans” are what we call wax beans. Just wish they were labelled as such. My mother, for example, loves wax beans, I can’t stand ’em.

  8. Peter says:

Tried the Red Velvet Oreo milkshake yesterday — it was actually very good (especially for half price 2-5pm…)
