GrubGrade reader Aaron sent me a picture of promotional poster for Taco Bell’s new Potato Crisp Nachos being tested in Oklahoma City.

This looks amazing, I’ve always been jealous of Taco Bell in Canada that have “Supreme Fries”. Imagine the Nachos Bell Grande, but instead of tortilla chips, it’s french fries! Similar to carne asada fries in cali.
Why introduce a completely new item (chips) just for one purpose? The tortilla chips are already good as it is!
I’m not one for nostalgia when it comes to fast food (unlike all the people here who think Pizza Hut was actually good 25 years ago) but Taco Bell’s specialty items (and limited time offerings) used to be phenomenal. The 3 Cheese Melt, the Cheesy Gordita Crunch, the Club Chalupa, the original Grilled Stuft Burrito, the Santa Fe Gordita, those delicious steak soft tacos with the lime sauce. All completely gone. They’ve discontinued pretty much every sauce they’ve come out with in the past 20 years (aforementioned garlic lime sauce, baja sauce, lava sauce, etc.) and their new items just seem lazy. 90s Taco Bell wouldn’t have fouled up so many of the breakfast options, either. K I’m done.
Pizza Hut was very good 25 years ago, in fact, their pan pizza was amazing! Now it’s awful, the worst thing on their menu, which isn’t very good to begin with. Taco Bell? It’s been low grade dog food as far back as I can remember.
I agree, Robert. The chips ought be more diverse then just “nachos”, if their gonna offer em. Its only testing.. So I will give em that. Their trying em out. Although I firmly believe their TORTILLA chips should get the nacho-job done. otherwise its potato chips and dip. Please dont call them nachos’. Cas there is NO nacho chip, here. Based on what my eyes are seeing/reading. Nope. No nacho chip here.
Buuuut.. Coming up w a new item like potato chips is nice of em’. Please do something else though, Taco Bell. Don’t call them nacho though. Maybe “Loaded potato crisp” would make more sense. Not yo Nacho, though.
there are no “nacho chips”. there are tortilla chips and nacho cheese. no nacho chips, sorry.
Interesting that they’re going with ‘Crisp’ instead of ‘Chip’ – meaning reconstituted and shaped potato flakes.
Next time you have a tray of anything Taco Bell, try scooping up some of it with a Pringle – let me know how that works out for you. I foresee a very low “grubbing on the go” score here.
There’s a restaurant in the city I grew up in that is famous for serving a dish just like this (albeit with all fresh ingredients). They call it Irish Nachos.
