Taco Bell Testing Chorizo Option on the Breakfast Menu

Last year when Taco Bell introduced their new breakfast menu nationwide, I went with the Waffle Taco for my first review.  In the review I wrote this about the use of a sausage patty, “This lackluster sausage patty makes me wonder why Taco Bell didn’t go with chorizo.  Maybe we’ll see chorizo sausage down the road as a LTO.”  Well here you go courtesy of GrubGrade reader Justin who spotted chorizo on the Taco Bell breakfast menu in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Had the crunchwrap and its my new favorite menu item at taco bell. The chorizo is very finely ground compared to traditional, but is seasoned adequately and has a tiny bit of kick. Finally the flavor of the item comes from something other than the sauce.

Chorizo Taco BellOn the menu the chorizo is described as “Flavorful Pork with Mexican Spices”.  The Chorizo Grande Scrambler, the Chorizo A.M. Crunchwrap, and the Chorizo, Egg and Cheese Biscuit Taco… all priced at $2.79 each.  We’ll update you on a potential national release.

This is what I’ve been waiting for! Awesome and hope it goes national soon, or at least makes it to Ohio!

I read on another site from a guy, who had took part in some Taco Bell testing and chatted with the Taco Bell staff, that initial tests for chorizo got less than a stellar approval rating and likes from the test subjects. This now gives me hope that I will finally see chorizo on their menu.

This always made sense, and I’m glad they’re looking to go forward with chorizo. Taco Bell is already the only place I would ever go for fast food breakfast, and this would seal that.

That’s funny, cuz I love Taco Bell like nobody’s business, but it’s the last place I’ll go for breakfast. McDonald’s, Hardee’s, Jack in the Box, White Castle, all are waaaaay ahead of TB’s offerings.

      • Sascha says:

Agree with Hardee’s (never had JitB or White Castle), but of the four places you mentioned, the only one I have access to where I live is McDonald’s, and I hate their breakfast. I go to TB for breakfast (which isn’t often, I don’t care all that much for fast food breakfast altogether) and Rally’s is my regular daytime choice.

Same here. No Hardees, White Castle, Jack in the Box. Just McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, and Wendys. Taco Bell is the only one I’d consider for breakfast.

Good, TB’s bacon is horrid (reminds me of the packaged real bacon bits you get in the salad aisle at the grocery store), and their sausage upsets my stomach. Only decent breakfast meat so far is steak. I’m looking forward to this new addition.

  5. Robert says:

About time. Their sausage is gross and I can’t even believe how bad their steak can be. Especially compared to how good it was during the grilled steak taco days 15 years ago. Ah, memories.

  6. scram says:

Their breakfast sux, but if they’re the only fast food breakfast place with spicy chorizo sausage, I wanna try it.

McDonalds used to have my favorite breakfast sandwich, but they went with a bland sausage in 2008-2009 so it could be on their $1 menu. A McD’s manager told me this. I haven’t had a Sausage/Egg/Cheese.McMuffin in 3-4 years because it doesn’t taste the same

  7. Jonathan Wayne says:

This makes sense, I mean a “Mexican” restaurant should at least have chorizo.

  8. David says:

Shouldn’t they have had this in the first place? I mean…Carls Jr/Hardees has it, Sonic has it…Taco Bell calls itself a mexican (them not me) place, but chorizo isn’t a meat option for breakfast? lol.

  9. Raiders757 says:

I have yet to try Taco Bell’s breakfast, and I love chorizo, so if this rolls out nationally I am going to have to make a point to do so.

I have to agree with the others posting above. If you’re serving Mexican inspired food, one would think chorizo would be an option from day one.

  10. han says:

looks like everyone’s screaming chorizo. TACO BELL,MAKE IT HAPPEN NATIONALLY!!

  11. Matt says:

Their sausage sucks, their bacon sucks, their steak sucks…but I have high hopes for the chorizo !!

  12. Jody says:

Taco John’s has had chorizo for breakfast for a while also.

  13. Joan says:

I love chorizo. It’s hard for me to have high hopes for their execution though 🙁 TB fails me, quite often.

It’s been over a year and it’s STILL in the test run. What is taking so long?
