I bought these yesterday to give them a try. These chicken tenders are HOT! Even without the sauce, they have a nice peppery flavor to them followed by a subtle kick in the throat. I’ve always been a fan of Popeye’s tenders, and whenever a new spin is used, I’m the first to get it on my dinner roster. I would definitely buy these again, but I enjoy sweet and spicy things more, so I would trade in the sauce for something a little less daring. Probably their sweet heat sauce. If you enjoy spicy things, then these are for you. Score 8/10

1st! YAY! I am number one. But anyways, these LTE from Popeye’s are cheesy, every month…another flavor. It is NOT worth it doe $5, the lazy employees sometimes give me 3 baby sized tenders….and the lines here in MD are always long for Popeye’s. SMH

Having a little trouble counting to two there, Johnny? Just a heads up, Ryan moderates the comments, so they won’t show up the second they’re posted.

Popeye’s LTO’s a generally a highly anticipated item every month, and your experience seems to vary from the norm. The main complaint about the Popeye’s specials is that they run out of too quick, which may be the result of being too generous with the food. You may want to look through some of Ryan’s experiences at Popeye’s and how much food he tends to get from them.

I can understand now. But they taste good though. I wish they had bigger deals though, because I usually have to buy for myself and wife and kids. 4 meals can be pricey, might as well buy a bucket of chicken. Usually KFC has the best deals. I remember when you could get a buy 11 pieces of chicken, get 11 FREE! the good ole’ days.

C’mon Johnny – act like you’ve been there before.

I had these last night. Usually if you go towards the beginning of the LTO they’ll include more food with your order. In general, the flavor is reminiscent of Tabasco sauce — no surprise there — but doesn’t contain a lot of heat until you get down to the last few bites of your meal. I’d venture to say the sauce was probably spicier than the chicken. It’s not a total miss, but not something I’d eat again like the beer can or red stick chicken.

These are delicious, I just got back from trying them today!

Somehow, I think that they may even be better than the Red Stick Chicken (and I _loved_ those things).

The Tobasco-spiced Pepper Barrel tenders have a very good, pronounced flavor. I’ll be back for more….

Am I the only one who noticed the sauce is the same sauce they used for their red stick chicken lto a couple months ago but they’re marketing it as new?

    • Kelly says:

Correction the sauce on their website is not being marketed as new however it is the same sauce from the red stick chicken lto.

When you open the box, man, that orange tinge looks like it’s gonna burn your buds & make you cry! Unfortunately, I didn’t get much heat out of these though, and the sauce tasted more of buttermilk, then Tabasco. My combo came with 4 big, beautifully cooked tenders, they were nice and moist inside, crispy on the outside, just kind of a let down in the heat dept.

I skipped the banana parfait thing, and opted for the lemonade icebox pie, it was delicious as always.
