New Southern Chicken Select Tenders from McDonald’s

GrubGrade reader Leigh found new Southern Chicken Select Tenders in a Chesapeake, Virginia McDonald’s.  Familiar with the Southern Style Chicken Sandwich?

McDs Southern Chicken SelectsWe’ll keep you posted on any potential wide release of Southern Chicken Select Tenders, but until then, here’s my review of the current Chicken Select Tenders from McDonald’s.

While it never made me forget the fact I live 200 miles from a Chick Fil A, the Southern Chicken sandwich was one of my favorites, so I would definitely give this a shot.

Don’t let the name fool you. These are EXACTLY the same as the Selects across the country. McD’s is using a marketing gimmick in a regional platform. Still the same bland flavor, unless you have a sauce to dip them in.

I wouldn’t doubt it. The Souther style chicken sandwich was just a regular crispy patty too. No special seasoning or anything about it.

I live in said region, and a gimmick like this isn’t going to work in an area flooded with Chick-Fil-A. I’ll see if my local McDonald’s is promoting the same item, try it out, and let everyone know how it is. I think you’re right. Unless they’re marinating the chicken in pickle juice and pressure cooking them, i can’t imagine them being anything other than you described.

I’m going to take a guess that the breading won’t be as tough as the original chicken tenders?

I saw them as well and didn’t think they were new or special. I have tried them and came away with the same feelings and thoughts you had in your review of the tenders.

These dont look horrible, but.. I had em yesterday, and really..
There seriously isn’t anything great going on w these. I used a lil of the sauce, something I truely love, but many of you don’t. They’re SO average. If you got any chick-fil-a nearby, please do yourself a favor. Go CFA. Much better. Tenders, nuggets, sandwiches, frikkin salad (yes, I know my spelling 🙂 ) .. Its all much better @ CFA w better sauce options (original chik sauce, Polynesian, to the obvious buffalo, BBQ, honey mustard etc.. They have a lot 🙂 ) i mean. These sauces are really beautiful and better. I do enjoy McDs sweet and sour, however. More so than CFA Polynesian. Sauced to the GD side… These mcd tenders dont meet my favorite. No way. I do like sweet n sour mcd sauce though? In fact, I love it. Best b nice about it 🙂 I hope Dinkins (dinkdick-Ha! But for real..) doesnt need to put out his own”wind” that smells like fart. Ew! Ew! Dinkins got da worst wind 🙂 dont screw w me. 🙂

Sascha- 200 miles from CFA? That stinks 🙁 CFA is definitely the best, and now their testing “chicken N waffles” and steel cut oat meal. Sounds quite nice, hope they go national !

  7. Ray says:

The mc nuggets are still the best.

I’m not a fan of McDonald’s tenders- but I tried these today- maybe it was just me, but I thought they did have a slightly different taste than normal. They were still hard and crunchy- but I’d say they were slightly better than past orders I’ve had. On the upside, my McDonald’s (in Jasper, Alabama) had the McRib back for a limited time.
