The Return of Pretzel Bun Sandwiches at Wendy’s

The return of the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger and Pretzel Pub Chicken Sandwich is imminent.  Starting in early July, Wendy’s will once again be offering the pretzel bun which debuted in 2013.  The Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger (review) features a hamburger patty, cheddar cheese sauce, Applewood Smoked Bacon, honey mustard, a slice of cheddar cheese, red onions, and spring mix on an artisan-style pretzel bun.  The Pretzel Pub Chicken sandwich (review) features  a breaded all-white meat chicken fillet, Muenster cheese, honey mustard, cheddar cheese sauce, and spring mix on an artisan-style pretzel bun.

I’m over pretzel buns. Not enthused.

  2. Matt says:

Both were stellar LTOs on Wendy’s part, I thought. The Pretzel Pub Chicken in particular is one of the best limited time sandwiches I’ve had in recent memory.

They can stay away, they were not good.

Not only is the pretzel bun back, BUTT for 30 cents more any sandwich can have the pretzel bun.

TOOO bad the the price for this product has gone up 30 cents as well….

You guys are stupid if you think these taste bad. I think they are good, but they should add some pretzel salt to the top bun.

I’m sure they have thought of it, but buns already contain a high amount of sodium already. I think the pretzel buns taste like sh!t. They add nothing to the overall sandwich, and the bottom bun leaves a off-taste on my tongue.

Ryan – I don’t think the burger version has cheese sauce on it; at least not this time around:

I found that smokey honey mustard off-putting, pretzel bun had an off-taste on my tongue & the cheddar cheese was stiff & like wax.

No spring mix either…that is clearly romaine on there. The romaine is better anyway, as the spring mix was just bitter grass clippings. With the sour-ness of the bun and the field greens, the couple of burgers I tried previously were really disgustingly bitter.

I don’t mind Wendys. Often I will buy a few JBC’s or a couple of value spicy nuggets and an Iced Tea. A lot of people are saying this is good or worth a shot. I think I will try it this time around, the Chicken Sandwich not the burger because I can’t see the Wendys patty holding up to it. At least the Chicken Filet is large and in charge.

Because it is so close to me, I visit Wendy’s often. My favorite item is the chicken burger, and I very much enjoyed the chicken burger with the pretzel bun! I love pretzel buns, and I feel that Wendy’s used it very well. The only thing I would change is the “spring mix.” The burger would have been infinitely better with the lettuce that is usually used. Without it, the burger simply does not have the taste of fresh crunch that it definitely needs.
