Taco Bell Test Market: Biscuit Tacos, Crispy Chicken Chickstar, Crispy Chicken GoStrips

GrubGrade reader Justin recently let us know about Pizza Hut’s Flavor Sticks and yesterday he came across some test items at Taco Bell. Some of these items have been testing in various markets in recent months.  The Biscuit Taco features Taco Bell’s new Crispy Chicken which is has a breading made with crushed tortilla chips and a jalapeno honey sauce.

Biscuit Taco BellLooks like the waffle will have some competition since the folded biscuit offers a bunch of breakfast sandwich options.  Also being tested with the aforementioned Crispy Chicken is a new Crunchwrap-like sandwich called the Crispy Chicken Chickstar.  A new possible value menu option could be in store with the tortilla-wrapped Crispy Chicken GoStrips.  We’ll keep you posted on any potential wide release.

The chickstar and gostrip is already out under crispy chicken crunchwrap and crispy chicken wraps. I tried the biscuit with bacon egg and cheese. Too much biscuit flavor not enough ingredient flavor. it wasnt bad, just needed some kind of sauce or maybe butter / garlic type biscuit flavor

I’ve been trying to comment about these things for the past two days and not seen my comments get posted…I don’t get it.

The Go Strips in my area are Jalapeño Honey, Mago BBQ, Spicy Ranch and Buffalo. I have had the Jalapeño Honey and Mango BBQ now and they are both good, like I said before about $1.70. There are 3 Crispy Chicken Chickstars, Mango BBQ, Buffalo and Bacon Ranch and those are $4 each, have not tried them yet. That’s what new in my neck of the woods.

They also added the crispy chicken to some regular menu items, the quesadilla for one, and I think there was another. The GoStrips are selling for $1.69 here, don’t think TB will drop them to dollar menu status too soon, though they likely belong there.

The chickstar items are testing here in Oxford, AL. I tried the mango bbq and it was shockingly delicious.

I disagree. I tried the Mango BBQ Chickstar and it was sub-par. There was hardly any sauce, so I still don’t know what that tastes like. Other than that, it is very similar to a McDonald’s snack wrap, but less flavor, and costs over twice as much. It was not very filling, either. Waste of $4.

Ok, so the GoStrips come in 4 flavors, Spicy Ranch, Mango BBQ, Buffalo and Jalapeno Honey, and the Crunchwraps (Chickstars) come in Bacon Ranch, Mango Q and Buffalo also. They are also offering it in quesadillas, and in the biscuit taco, apparently with gravy or jalapeno honey.

Tried the chicken bacon ranch chickstar last night, and came away satisfied. At $3.99, I was hesitant, but I remember others here saying that the the dinner crunchwraps are bigger in size than the breakfast version, as I’ve only tried the breakfast kind, so I went for it. In the end, I probably would have preferred to pay $3.29 or so for this, but at the same time I can’t say I was ripped off.

I liked it. Finishing one definitely gave me that same “I’m full” feeling I get from the breakfast wraps. The chicken was crispy, and you can definitely taste the different flavor that the tortilla breading provides. I do wish that either the chicken or the breading (or both) were seasoned a little, because as it is, the product relies heavily on the supporting cast to provide all the seasoning. The bacon is the same they use at breakfast, tastes like bacon, nothing more, nothing less. The ranch (which is the spicy ranch) has good flavor to it. I love a good spicy ranch, and this one is ok, but does not fall among my top two, the Buffalo Wild Wings southwest ranch and the Long John Silver’s Baja sauce. The lettuce, tomato and cheese played their complementary parts just fine.

Overall, a decent product, but with the $1 menu, not one I would likely partake in often.

    6.75/10

Am I the only one who thinks the name “chickstar” is just totally insane?

All if the chickstar wraps are amazing! The Buffalo is a little strong but still very good! My favorite is the mango bbq, I would be sad if they took it away

I heard these are going national March 26.
