King’s Hawaiian Pork & Slaw Sandwich is Back at Firehouse Subs

The King’s Hawaiian Pork & Slaw Sandwich is back at Firehouse Subs.  The King’s Hawaiian Pork & Slaw Sandwich features toasted King’s Hawaiian bread topped with 12-hour pit-smoked pulled pork, Wisconsin pepper jack cheese, and Hawaiian coleslaw.  I tried this sandwich as summer was coming to an end last year and I’m glad to see it back.

This sandwich really should not have cheese.

A truly great pulled pork sandwich shouldn’t even need any slaw let alone cheese, but “truly great” can’t be expected from a chain.

Although traditional for many in the Southern Virginia and Carolina regions, it just saddens me to see slaw on a pulled pork sandwich. It’s like putting A1 on a really great steak.

You may be correct about slaw on the sandwich, but it shouldn’t downgrade a good pulled pork sandwich. I always at least have slaw on the same plate. But like you said…this is a chain we are talking about. I have too many local joints to bring myself to buy these things from chains.

      • Sascha says:

There is nothing wrong with cheese or slaw on a pulled pork sandwich, and there’s nothing wrong with having A1 on steak, high quality or low. Why can’t people be allowed to eat what they like how they like it?

This is the best pull pork sandwich I have ever taste in my 59 years on this earth OMG!!!! By the time I realized they serve it I was only able to get two. I went back for the third one and they were no longer selling them. I was so disappointed. But now I am so excited!!!!!

Oh why live in a little box where things can only go with certain things?! And, really, cheese makes everything better 🙂

  3. Scrape says:

I might just have to save up for a few weeks and get one of these. Looks impressive.

  4. Todd says:

I didn’t even notice that it has cheese! That is so weird. I’m in South Carolina and have eaten a lot of pulled pork in my day but never seen it with cheese.

    • Jonathan Wayne says:

You haven’t seen it because it is wrong, absolutely wrong to put cheese on a pulled pork sandwich.

      • Sascha says:

But what if you happen to like pulled pork, and cheese, and might even want to (gasp!) combine the two flavors?

Todd where in SC are you from. In my area if SC we always put cheese in bbq.

I just had one today for the first time. I thought it was excellent. My all means am I pulled pork purist… Or one of those Philly Cheese Steak purists. It was a good sandwich. If the purists have anything to say, say it. You guys are annoying though.
