Spotted: Southwest Chicken McWrap from McDonald’s

I came across a new McWrap at BWI airport in Maryland today.  The latest McWrap that might see a wide release in the coming months is the Southwest Chicken McWrap.  Priced at $4.19, the Southwest Chicken McWrap is highlighted by the habanero ranch sauce found in the Bacon Habanero Ranch Quarter Pounder released earlier this year.  The Southwest Chicken McWrap also features a cilantro lime glaze and tortilla strips to go along with the familiar spring greens, lettuce, tomato and cheddar jack cheese.  Nutrition-wise I was only able to spot the caloric values… 520 calories for the grilled chicken version and 680 calories for the crispy chicken.

    Ugh, it has the Habanero Ranch that the Quarter Pounder had? PASS. I hated that.

    I actually like these things… pretty fairly priced, and they taste good. One of my newer favorite things at McDonalds.

    Crispy is just a waste of 160 calories. Much nicer and healthier grilled, the way I take all my bird at McD, BK and Wendy’s.

    Yum! I love this sauce on the burger, and was thinking the other day how well it would work in the McWraps (extra sauce, thanks). Can’t wait to try this, since I was curious how the texture would hold up. Hopefully it works as well as the Homestyle Chicken Strips worked at Wendy’s (or does, for you lucky Canucks). The sauce actually got an okay kick, like Scott Roberts said, with some thickness that isn’t often found enough in sauces with spice-which means it’s also going on my fries. The thickness, creaminess, though not taste is where I’d argue the ranch comes from. Of all the ideas, concepts, etc. that fast food has done this year (enough of the darn Pretzel Buns, save Red Robin), this sauce is my candidate for best new fast food item this year. Granted, I only have mostly Dunkin’ Donuts (blech) around me for 90% of fast food franchises around me, 5% McD’s, 3% Wendy’s, and 2% misc. (Popeye’s, any of the Yum! Brands).

    Anyway, really purpose of this, food slobbering, craving aside, like a little baby, is to give the nutrition you were curious about.

    Crispy: 27g Protein, 33g fat, 68g carbs, 1470 mg sodium, 8 grams saturated fat, 65mg cholesterol.

    Grilled: 31g Protein, 20g fat, 54g carbs, 1300 mg sodium, 6 grams saturated fat, 80 mg cholesterol.

    Exactly, 44. Save 13g fat and 170mg salt and get 4g more protein with grilled. At my weight I need 100g protein a day and this gets 31% of the job done.
    The fries are a glaring issue with BK’s new Satisfries, great taste and much healthier.

    Been eating these things for months. I think my McD was one of the tester sites: it was advertised there for a few months, then they took down the signs, but if you knew about it you could still order it. It felt like a “cult” favorite. It’s really delicious. The habanero ranch sauce I don’t mind, and the cilantro glaze is note-perfect. Grilled is the only way to go.
