New Items Spotted at Sonic: Island Fire Burgers and Spicy Chicken Sandwiches, Southwest Chipotle Burrito, Chocolate Brownie Blast

Thanks to Manavee and Steven for the pics and info on a bunch of new menu items at Sonic.  Not listed on the Sonic website yet, but here’s a look at what’s to come.  The Island Fire SuperSONIC Double Cheeseburger ($5.29) features pepper jack and smoky cheddar cheese with sweet habanero sauce.  The Island Fire Spicy Chicken Sandwich ($4.19) features a spicy chicken filet with sweet habanero sauce and mayo.  Manavee tried the Island Fire SuperSonic Double Cheeseburger and says, ” I found the Sweet Habanero sauce to be overpoweringly cloying.  There is a bit of a spicy kick after the initial revolting wave of sweetness, but it was too little, too late.  It comes with a slice of smoky cheddar and one slice of pepper jack, but I couldn’t taste the cheese through the sauce.”

Island Fire SonicOn the breakfast burrito front, there’s a new Southwest Chipotle Burrito which features sausage, fire-roasted peppers, onions, tots and smokey chipotle sauce.  For dessert, Sonic has a new Chocolate Brownie Blast so keep an eye out for that one.

The island fire stuff was available a few years back. I liked it, but I don’t ever expect fast food to be spicy at all.

  2. Robert says:

Sonic’s burgers are embarrassing, but their breakfast burritos are out of this world. Yum.

  3. jenne says:

Bj is correct… 2008 and 2010 both saw this burger.

  4. C says:

They also have new natural cut fries that were apparently undercooked for me. Cant really give a review if they arent prepared right.

  5. Manavee says:

I tried the Island Fire spicy chicken sandwich and thought it was much better than the burger. The spice in the chicken patty holds up better against the sweetness of the sauce, and I think sweet generally works much better with chicken than a burger patty. The chicken patty itself at Sonic still lags behind the premium chicken patties of both Wendy’s and Burger King, IMO.

  6. Echo710 says:

That “island fire” sauce that they use for those sandwiches makes a great dipping sauce for Sonic’s “cheddar peppers” (which I really like, but I always wish they were spicier).

  7. lp says:

just ask them to put the sauce on the hamburger like they did a few years ago. it tasted damn good on those.

  8. Don says:

I am over joyed to hear that the Island Fire Burger may be returning. I loved it, and did not think the sauce was that sweet. I wish I could find a recipe for the sauce, then I could make my own IFB. I will have to try the chicken.

Tried both spicy chicken sandwiches, both the same kinda heat, barely mild. You can get the hot n spicy mchicken for a buck at mcdonalds and get more heat, as well as the spicy chicken sandwich from chic fila. If I see habanero advertised, I exspect to get a little sweaty, there has to be some burn, however I am a pepper fanatic and have been known to eat ghost peppers.
