Close Out Oatmeal Month with a GrubGrade Giveaway

Is it just me, or has it been a while since we gave you some free swag? I just learned last week that January is National Oatmeal Month. What? You didn’t know either? Well in that case we can celebrate through February together thanks to another great on-the-go product from Emerald Nuts.

Last summer Emerald released its ‘Breakfast on the go!’ and this year they’ve stepped up their commitment to the breakfast bandwagon by throwing everyone’s favorite cholesterol clearing, maple-and-fruit-lovin’ whole grain into the mix. The new Oatmeal Nut Blends come in three flavors (Maple & Brown Sugar, Apples & Cinnamon, Berries & Creme) in convenient 200 calorie or less pouches that pack 3 grams of fiber and at least 3 grams of protein.

Judging by the amount of time I’ve spent in the library recently (not to mention my penchant for using a superfluous amount of verbage) I could write you a dissertation on why these are so awesome. But that would probably just put you to sleep, and last I checked these were Breakfasts on the Go!, not Sleeping Pills on the Go! So take my word for it as someone who eats a lot of packaged food. They’re awesome. They taste great, and they’ll save you a while lot of time and thought from putting your own trail mix bags together.

Emerald has been kind enough to give out three boxes of each flavor to three lucky readers. And lucky it will be, because the randomization generator knows no favorites. That being said, you will have to leave us a comment. In honor of the Super Bowl (not this weekend, but next) , I was thinking something along the line of rooting interests. As some of you know I’ve been doing the credentialed sports journalist thing for most of my adult kid-at-heart life, and recently sounded off about why three particular New England Patriots players have me intrigued to see the results of the rematch of Super Bowl XLII.

So I want to know which team you’ll be rooting for in the Big Game. Leave us a comment by Tuesday, January 31st at 11:59 P.M. est (the end of National Oatmeal month) telling us which team you’ll be pulling for to be eligible.

You’re right, January is National Oatmeal Month. It’s also National Soup Month! 🙂

And in case you were wondering, February is Canned Food Month as well as Great American Pie Month! 🙂

  2. Andrew Wiskow says:

oh… and I’ll be rooting for the Patriots! 🙂

  3. Ryan W. says:

I’ll be rooting for the Giants, of course. Steelers fan, but any time Tom Brady goes home disappointed, everybody wins.

  4. Jrdunn says:

    Pats no doubt

  5. PJH says:

Oatmeal looks a lot more interesting than a Giants/Pats Superbowl. Would much rather see a Raves/49’s, but I guess I’ll root for the Giants by default.

  6. Lisa says:

GMEN! Giants all the way!! :o)

  7. Todd says:

Lifelong Cowboy fan….but I will be pulling for the Giants.

  8. Elise says:

I will root for the Giants because in a battle between giants and patriots, the giants would win. They would stomp down those 1776-era weapons, no contest. Unless of course the battle goes to the water, then all bets are off. Giants can’t handle being in water (obviously).
You can put your money on it!

  9. Regina s says:

    Patriots going to win

  10. Gotta go with the Patriots.

  11. Dan says:

These look like great products. Being from an NFC city, admittedly with a sucky team, I gotta go w/ the G-men.

  12. Joe says:

I’ll be rooting for the patriots, hopefully they’ll pick up their 4th SB.

  13. My dad would never speak to me again if I didn’t root for the Giants.

  14. Nick says:

I’m an Eagles fan, so I’ll be rooting for the apocalypse.

    • Manavee says:

I like this answer the best.

I always say I’m rooting for the meteor. For example, during the LSU-Alabama title game, I was rooting for the meteor to strike the field at the 50 yard line, and take the whole stadium out with it.

Sadly, the meteor didn’t win the game.

  15. Manavee says:

Oh wait, is that not an option?

    OK, the Giants I guess.

  16. spacemonkey1138 says:

We don’t watch TV. So I won’t be watching or rooting for anyone.

  17. Kaylin says:

Rootin’ for the Giants! Since they’re the underdogs going into this game, I believe.

  18. Whitney says:

    Total Pats fan here.

  19. amy marantino says:

  20. Erin says:

My team, The Browns, will never make the Superbowl, so since It is humanly impossible for me to root for Belichick, I’ll be rooting for the Giants. 🙂

  21. Russ C. says:

I believe that I shall be rooting for the Giants.

I am pulling for the England Patriots.

  23. Jennifer C. says:

I say the Giants have this one!

  24. Ray J. says:

I’m rooting for the Giants. Brady has to go down hard.

  25. Eric says:

    Giants for sure.

As a side note, I keep a box of Breakfast On the Go! at work, but haven’t tried these flavors yet. Never saw the S’mores yet even. I’ve only had the Breakfast and Berry Nut Blends. Look forward to trying these regardless of the contest!

  26. Kyle Terlop says:

Patriots, as long as Brady gets in the zone, theirs no stopping him

  27. Nick Rovo says:

Grew up a pats fan so I will of course be rootiing for them

  28. James says:

Well, I’m not partial to either team. I suppose the Giants. The Patriots seem over-rated. I’m not much of a sports buff, but I love Emerald nuts!

  29. Kayla says:

Lived in Massachusetts all my life so I have to say the Patriots.

  30. Joe says:

    Pats fan here!

  34. Karina says:

i will be rooting for puppies.

  35. Bruce says:

PATRIOTS!!! NE would be devestated if they lost again

  36. Jesica says:

Giants – if the Colts can’t be in it I might as well root for a Manning. Plus, the Patriots? It goes against everything right and good in the world.

  37. Mary L. says:

    Giants ftw!

  38. Rhiannon says:

These look very tempting at this hour. Especially the apples and cinnamon.

I will be rooting for the Patriots, however, I hope it is a MUCH faster paced/action packed game than the Pro Bowl. It’s like I’m watching this in slow motion.

  39. Jonathan says:

Patriots, even though they beat the Ravens, I can’t root for the Giants. I have no idea why.

  40. Sean says:

    Going for the Giants

  41. Jill N. says:

I know I’m in the minority here, but go Patriots!

  42. Sheila T says:

I’m not really a football fan, so I don’t really have a particular team that I will root for. But I guess I’ll choose the Giants, because some people I know are fans of that team.

Great blog by the way! I recently discovered it and have really enjoyed following the posts!

  43. Stephen says:

Jeez this pick is hard cuz I’m a Falcons fan…I guess the Giants since I dread Tom Brady.

  44. DianneT says:

    Patriot for the win….yeah babeee!!!!

  45. bmtyson says:

  46. willrun4food says:

I have to support the little brother stepping out of Peyton’s shadow. Go Giants.

  47. M86 says:

I had no idea who was even in the Super Bowl, but by reading the previous comments, I figured it out 😉 I’m just not a sports person at all. But, if I had to pick one, I’d go with the Giants.

  48. Lochlain says:

As a colts fan, I’m rooting for the Giants. I don’t want to see the Patriots holding up a trophy in Indy!

  49. aryana says:

Not a sports person, but lets go with the patriots:)

  50. Sascha says:

I’m rooting for good commercials this year.

On one hand, I’m already sick of hearing about Brady’s and Belichick’s “revenge” for 2007. Just based on that, I can’t wait to see them get beat again.

On the other hand, Giants fans I’ve run into lately, mostly online like facebook, have been really, REALLY obnoxious, and I’d like to see them lose.

Manavee roots for meteors, I root for sinkholes. Same effect, but I guess living in Florida has ingrained me to think sinkholes.

If I had to pick one to root for, I’ll go New York. And no Eli, winning this game will still not make you elite, but you have become really good.

  51. Jenn says:

Giants, definitely. I’m a Colts fan, so not only do I mega-loathe the Patriots, but I’ll root for any Manning!

  52. Zocefus says:

    Got to be the Pats!

  53. kirsten Halpin says:

I am Canadian and I will be rooting for the Patriots. I went to grad school in Boston and became a fan while living in the city. I hope I win the breakfast treats as I am often in a rush in the morning. Grabbing a pouch of these would be handy.

  54. Dacoda says:

Patriots all the way. And i love meal of oats.

  55. Laura L. says:

I have to go with the Patriots to win- but I’m just hoping that the game will be close enough that the game is more entertaining than the commercials. It’s such a bummer when one team is leading by 30 points at half time in the Superbowl (unless it’s my team).

  56. Christine says:

  57. Michael says:

Can I enter by saying neither team? I could just pick one, but that would be a lie.

  58. Pauline says:

Mm, I always wanted to try these mixed nuts. Hope I get the chance to try ’em for free! 😀

    I’m rooting for the patriots!

  59. Lisa says:

I’ll also be cheering for the Patriots!

  60. Vanessa says:

I wish I could cheer on Tim Tebow, but since that’s not possible I will cheer for the Patriots. But, Tebow is still no.1 for me! I would love to try the new bfast blend nuts. The other flavors have all been great!

  61. Stew says:

    New York Giants

  62. Marisa says:

    Patriots, I’m a west coaster.

  63. Atleye says:

I hate the Pats and Giants, but must root for the AFC. Go Pats.

  64. Jeff says:

No big stake in this game, but Giants.

  65. Kyla says:

Although I don’t have a tremendously strong preference, I think rooting for the Patriots’ opponent puts me at risk for being disowned by my dad. So, for my father’s sake, go patriots!

  66. Lindsay says:

The Giants, just because the Pats blew it last time they played in the Superbowl with the Giants and it would be kind of funny to see them lose again. 🙂

I love blueberries! The Blueberry and Creme one looks divine!

  67. Sam says:

    Gmen all day of course

  68. CB says:

    Pats will get revenge 24-21.

  69. Claire says:

    The giants, woo!

  70. Deanna says:

I supposed I’ll be rooting for the Patriots. No well-bred Southern girl can root for a New York team. (I am rooting for Oatmeal though! Go! Go! Go!)

  71. SkippyMom says:

Gee – I have never had to scroll down so far to leave a comment. Must be late to the party. heehee

These look so good and even if I don’t win I will definitely be buying them to put in our kids’ lunches for when they have after school activities – looks like a great/healthy pick me up for them.

    Thanks Adam & GG!

  72. Doug says:

I’ll definitely be rooting for the New York Giants. I’m not particularly a NYG fan, but I am a fan of anyone playing against the Pats.

  73. Christina says:

I want the Giants to win, since they can use a victory like the Super Bowl, but I think the Patriots will likely win this one.

Even though I don’t really follow football, I should be hoping next year the Steelers win so my mom and family can have something to be celebrating.

    Thanks for the contest!

  74. Jess says:

I’m going to be watching the Puppy bowl! I hope all the puppies win!

For the sake of the contest entry, I guess I’ll say the Giants since I’ve only ever seen the sign for “New England” and haven’t ever been there.

  75. wendy says:

  76. Ben says:

I want to see Eli win it. I’m happy at the breakout year he’s having.

    Go Giants!!!

  81. jessie says:

    I heart nuts. Yes-thnx-more-plz

  82. Katie says:

I’ll be cheering for whichever team’s fans show up with the best snacks for the Super Bowl party!

  83. Sherm says:

Hate both teams, but the Patriots are the douchier of two evils. So I’ll be (tentatively) rooting for the Giants to break Brady’s legs and upset hem in the Super Bowl yet again.

  84. Jeff says:

Now that our beloved Peyton is probably retiring, time for little brother to deny the Evil Brady yet again. NY 31 Pats 24.

  85. chladner says:

    Patriots all the way.

  86. Capricho says:

Basically anyone not affiliated with Boston…so Giants all the way!
