The Egg White Delight: An Egg McMuffin with Egg Whites

Yesterday McDonald’s announced that they will be updating their menu boards next week with calorie count information.  The press release included some possible new menu items for next year including an Egg McMuffin using egg whites, Canadian bacon, white cheddar and a whole grain muffin.  This healthier Egg McMuffin will be called the Egg White Delight (260 calories).

The menu items being explored for 2013 include more recommended food groups. Among the additions being tested:

  • More seasonal fruit and vegetables options, such as blueberries and cucumbers, during peak seasons.
  • Additional produce side options and grilled chicken choices for Happy Meals.
  • The McWrap (we posted about this last month), inspired by McDonald’s Europe, features fresh vegetables and is available in three flavors – Chicken & Bacon, Sweet Chili Chicken, and Chicken & Ranch – starting at 350 calories.
  • New breakfast choices, including an egg-white breakfast sandwich on an English muffin made with 8 grams of whole grain.

The new McDonald’s menu boards are ridiculous and stupid. McDonald’s ceased to be a restaurant a long time ago. They’re in the business of appeasing people that would never go there to begin with, and it’s starting to suck. I would skip the place if the drinks weren’t a buck, honestly. Honestly, even the drinks are suspiciously off, if you ask me.

You have no idea what you are talking about, absolutely none!!

I had breakfast at McDonald’s earlier this week, and I was actually surprised to see that they already had all of the calorie info on the menu board. People can make the argument that it doesn’t change eating habits, but I like that they’re willing to show it.

Well I was all about McDonalds making a better, healthier Egg McMuffin – until I saw that the difference between the 2 is 40 calories. Really?

    • Steven says:

A huge drop in cholesterol, less fat and whole grain in the muffin is probably a lot more valuable than the 40 calorie difference.

  5. Jade says:

Yolkless eggs are pointless. Somehow I don’t think people will go to McDonalds for this and skip the hash browns.

Time for some diet burgers and ice cream

Seriously, McDonals’s, just stop. Stop trying to be upscale and hip, stop renovating your stores with that bland coffee shop look, and just be yourself! Put fun play places out front again, with slides and swings and stuff! (like the old Mayor McCheese that you could climb up in to!) Focus on your burgers and fries. Make the classic basic burger something good before you venture off into fancy-pants-land.

I still question whether or not egg whites are “healthier” than white plus yolk. While egg whites contain less calories and cholesterol, you also lose a lot (if not nearly all) of the nutritional value that eggs provide as well.

I think it’s just another diet trend that makes people feel better about what they eat rather than actually having to think about it.

Oh, and egg whites on their own taste like slimy cardboard.

  9. Bob says:

There’s no point eating eggs without THE DEAD BABY CHICKEN!!!!!

  10. Jonathan Wayne says:

Eggs without yolks, what is the point?
If you have to go through life eating bland, tasteless, soulless food then you may as well kill yourself now.

The egg white looks disgusting who would eat that?

  12. Lauren says:

I always order mine with egg whites, it’s delicious.

  13. […] According to Grub Grade, the Golden Arches is testing a new breakfast sandwich that might appeal to those looking for healthier options beyond McDonald’s oatmeal, fruit parfait, and fruit & walnut salad. It’s called the Egg White Delight and it has 260 calories, which is just 40 less than a regular Egg McMuffin. […]

I don’t know about this. I guess those thin chicks will dig it, but I will buy the regular.
