Testing: McDonald’s McWraps

Consider this a larger version of the Snack Wrap.  Currently testing in Chicago… McDonald’s McWraps.  The McWraps flavor styles are: Chicken & Bacon, Sweet Chili Chicken and Chicken & Ranch.  Priced at $3.99 each.  Thanks Manavee for the pics and impressions.  Take a look:

I got the Chicken & Bacon McWrap.  There’s not much to say.  Imagine McDonald’s grilled chicken, McDonald’s lettuce, and McDonalds bacon in a wrap, and there you go.  The one thing I would comment on is that I thought the wrap seemed a bit dry for the first 3/4 of it, to the point I thought the wrap had been completely unsauced.  I was annoyed because the container makes a point of saying you can select from a variety of sauces for your wrap (which they didn’t tell me about when I was ordering it at the drive through…I just ordered the chicken and bacon McWrap and that was it).  Then I got to the end of the McWrap and there was a big gloop of mayo at the end.

The flavors look tasty, but I would never pay $4 for an item from McDonalds. Hopefully the snack wraps will get the new flavors.

You’d never pay $4 for *anything* just because it’s from McDonald’s? Well, that’s … stupid.

Anyway, the first one I had of these was DELICIOUS. Chicken bacon ranch (not mayo) and I didn’t have to order anything specially. The next two I had…not as good. But these are huge items. Compared to their $5 chicken sandwiches, these are much bigger.

I don’t think it is adequately conveyed in the pictures, but you do get a good amount of chicken in the wrap. I don’t think 3.99 is a deal, but I also don’t feel like it was an unfair price either.

That looks like a decent size provided that tube in the bottom right picture was full. I bet that one would be good with their honey mustard.

Wouls have been cooler if they brought over flavors from Europe like the shrimp, veggie, or beef varieties because a chicken ranch wrap doesn’t sound exciting at all especially for $4.

I don’t know who in their right mind is going to want shrimp served at their McDonald’s

Fast food prices have just skyrocketed throught the years.

I goto Wendys and get a Son of Baconator Combo, regular size, and its damn near 8 or 9 dollars.

Arbys roast beef meal, small, damn near 7 dollars.

I am now pretty much a dollar menu guy when it comes to fast food.

If I want to pay 8 -10 dollars for a burger, fries, and a drink there are way better fast casual options ala Five Guys, FuddRuckers, or any variety of local bar and grills around.

I had one of these in Barcelona about a year ago. I thought it was decent. In fact, the overall quality of the food at McDonald’s in Spain seemed exponentially better than it is in the US that I stopped at the location in the Barcelona airport on the way home and had another good burger. It was called the “Big New Yorker” or something like that and while it was good, it was nothing indicative of what you’d find on a burger in NYC, where I actually live. I think it had barbeque sauce and bacon on it or something.

Just tried a grilled chicken/bacon version of the McWrap, similar to the OP.

    • The sauce was a huge letdown here as well. I specifically asked and was told it came with “creamy garlic” sauce, not the choice of sauces mentioned on the packaging. Since this is a region LTO, perhaps the promo boxes were printed before the final decision was made on that?
    • The wrap started to fall apart around 30% of the way through. Seems that the sauce, veggies and grilled chicken combine to form a very flimsy package; may have been better with the crispy chicken to give it some support. Haven’t had this problem with the snack wraps, which fold the tortilla around itself once or twice for heft, or the breakfast skillet burrito.
    • Bacon was forgotten or completely unnoticeable. Not good for McDonalds either way
    • Maybe it’s because I went to the Wrigleyville McDs, but I didn’t get the good amount of chicken that other commentators are pointing out.

I was excited to try this and willing to pay $4 if it was good but felt let down afterwards. I’d get two snack wraps rather than order this again.

There’s three different ones and they all come with different ingredients.
    Chicken and Ranch comes with:
    10′ inch steamed tortilla
    Ranch sauce
    Shredded Lettuce
    Spring Leaf lettuce
    2 Cucumbers
    1 Tomato slice in half
    Cheddar Jack cheese
    A little bit of vinegar
One whole piece of Crispy or Grilled Chicken
    Chicken Bacon comes with:
    10′ inch steamed tortilla
    Garlic sauce
    Shredded Lettuce
    Spring leaf lettuce
    1 Tomato slice in half
    Cheddar Jack cheese
One whole piece of Crispy or Grilled Chicken
    Sweet Chili Chicken comes with:
    10′ inch steamed tortilla
    Garlic sauce
    Sweet Chili sauce
    Shredded Lettuce
    Spring leaf lettuce
    2 cucumbers
One whole piece of Crispy or Grilled Chicken
My favorite is the Bacon one(:

The only problem that I think there is that, they do start to fall apart, but when my crew started making them they only put a little bit of lettuce, because we were so used to the tiny snack wraps, but we’re suppose to put a huge handful of lettuce, so it won’t fall apart. We’re slowly getting better at it. And at our McDonald’s we get tons of orders for them, and customers sometimes ask if they can add different sauces to them.

  12. Frogz says:

i’ve been buying them since their release, chicken and bacon 1 atleast
i know that if mcdonalds DOESNT add it to their nationwide chain it would be foolish
the aeoli sauce(Garlic sauce) doesnt really taste like garlic
its kind of a weird mayonaise taste but it isnt bad, it complements the wrap as a whole(i’ve personally ordered it with a few different sauces and normally i will just order it default)
the wrap boxes and 10 inch tortillas dont take up much floor space in resteraunts and for roughly $5 with tax, are a decent ammount of food
unlike the snack wraps that use the “premium chicken strips”, these use a traditional breaded or grilled chicken breast like on the sandwiches and salads sliced into 3 or 4 pieces
i havnt had a problem with improperly distributed sauce but 1 or 2 of the wraps i’ve gotten has fallen apart on me(the box is made to hold it for a reason)
