The taco with a Doritos shell known as Doritos Locos Tacos is now available nationwide at Taco Bell.  I reviewed it a few weeks ago.  Interested?

Yes. I am interested. I actually have been looking forward to this day for some time now. This is almost as big as the Chalupa release. I plan on buying 6 or more of these tacos and take them to work to see what my boring co-workers think of them.

Taco Bell website says March 12.

    • Ryan says:

Pretty sure that’s for the digital billboard thing they are going to run. March 8 is the release of the taco, March 12 is the billboard promo.

    • Lancaster says:

The product arrives today; the “digital billboards” (lol) will be up 3/12.

The dude at my local Taco Bell was impressed (and maybe a little weirded out?) that I asked about these the other day. Today is indeed the day. I’m a bit let down by the fact that they’re priced higher than the standard taco; it was actually already in the register and came to $1.38 after tax. But maybe it’ll be their new featured $.99 deal?

I haven’t found a taco I didn’t like so I figured this product would be pretty good…and it was. Just finished off 2 of these in the supreme mode @$1.69 each. Would have liked a more pronounced dorito flavor which in this case I guess means more cheese dust on the taco shell but overall a nice and slightly different twist that was enjoyable.

    Yum yum yum, loved it!

  6. Ryan (not Grubgrade Ryan) says:

I thought it was really good. The tastes work very well together. I don’t know that I’ll get it often (don’t go to TB often anyway) because I’m not sure it’s worth that much more than the regular crunchy taco. On the plus side, it seems that the cheesy gordita crunch is there to stay.

  7. Satyr says:

I just picked up a couple from my local TB. I made sure that I tried the first one with no sauce or other adornments…overall impression: meh. The nacho cheese Doritos taste isn’t very distinctive. I tried the second one without sauces again, but after one bite had to add some Hot taco sauce. With these costing 1.29 and a Volcano Taco costing 1.19, I think I will choose the Volcano the next time because they are much better. Cool Ranch or Spicy Nacho flavor…I may try that if it ever comes out.

I hate it that they did away with the Beefy Crunch Burrito…it was always good, even if all the cheese and sour cream wound up on one side of the burrito.

  8. Steven says:

Decent but not earth shattering. I mean how can you reinvent the taco? I don’t see myself going out of my way to get these again.

  9. Mike N says:

Unfortunately it doesn’t come in that cool holder; they came in a Doritos-esque bag… If they sell them at the standard taco price, I’ll be into them, but for now I have to agree with Satyr: for the price, just ‘meh’.

    • Chefprotoss says:

Weird, I just had one and it came with the holder.

    • JF says:

Isn’t your hand the holder? And nothing to recycle? 😉

    • Zachary Jacob Zblewski says:

I have yet to see anyone else who has gotten one “in a Doritos bag”. I don’t believe it. The signage shows the taco in a chip bag, true. Every taco bell restaurant has the taco in a cardboard holder in a paper wrapper.

  10. Justin ST says:

I agree, the price needs to come down. Yum is getting very ridiculous with Taco Bell’s prices. Their attitude is to keep jacking the price up as much as they can get away with, and that’s wrong. If it keeps getting any higher, you’re honestly just better off going to a real Mexican restaurant.

  11. JF says:

Never was a big fan of Doritos, so not sure I’d try this. Now if they made the shells out of Chili Cheese Fritos, I’d be all over that.

Can’t you customize it? Meaning different verions of tacos, chicken vs. beef, etc? I know the TB I visit is good with that.

  12. Eagles409 says:

I just had a regular one and a supreme. The Dorito cheese does get all over your fingers when you’re eating it and I thought they were a little too salty. Taco Bell food is very salty to begin with, but you add a ton more salt to the shell and you’ll have to make sure you get a large drink. Overall I really liked it and I’ll get them again, but they aren’t as earth shattering as I thought they’d be. My only suggestion would be to use liquid cheese instead of shredded cheese on these, I think it would taste better with the Dorito flavor, but that’s just my opinion.

  13. Raiders757 says:

Damn, I forgot about these being released nation wide today, and had planned to go out of my way and try one. Funny thing is, I made homemade fajitas in my cast iron skillet for lunch and enjoyed the nice day eating at my picnic table in the back yard. Just me and the dog. I can only imagine my meal was much better than what I would have gotten at TB anyhow.

I’m still a bit miffed they’re going to cost more when I do try them, and come in completely unnecessary packaging, but there’s no way I can let these slide by without hopefully enjoying one.

    • Zachary Jacob Zblewski says:

The packaging isn’t unnecessary. The cardboard holder is there to keep the orange powder off of your fingers (and in-turn, clothes).

  14. Chris says:

Totally going tomorrow. I’m going to get one done regular and one with lava or baja sauce.

  15. George says:

I had three of these today, and they were very good. To be honest though, they made them kinda small, and I’m not sure the ones I had were worth $1.19. The Cheesy Gordita Crunch I got along with these was still the highlight of the meal, but it’s kinda ridiculous that they charge $2 for them now.

My favorite Taco Bell promo item in the last five years was the Cheesy Double Beef Burrito, and this is an item that they won’t even make for you anymore. When they first came out, they were .89 and I was absolutely stuffed after three of them. I would gladly pay $1.50 for them if they brought them back again.

  16. Mitchery says:

I tried it today and liked it. I don’t see myself ordering it all the time. My go to standard is the chicken quesadilla meal and now the cheesy gordita crunch meal. On a side note, I’m going to ask my local TB if they could the dorita taco shell in a cheesy gordita crunch. I think that would be awesome.

  17. M86 says:

I think the last time I had Taco Bell was about 6 years ago… And, no, I’m not a food snob. TB’s menu is just too expansive for me to roll through the drive-thru and know what I want.

That, and my last TB visit 6 years ago was horrible… I had a Chicken Ranchero something taco that I could barely choke down. One of these days I’ll give them another chance. 🙂

  18. Murray says:

    Had three today…awesome!!!

  19. Cynthia says:

I had one yesterday, no sauce, so that I would get just the flavors of the new shells and it’s fillings. Good, and I would get them again. I do think the price should come down 10 cents though. They weren’t the best food on the menu or anything.
