GG Contest: Mention In The Arby’s Fish Sandwich Commercial

I just took the pictures shown below at my local Arby’s in Frederick, Maryland.  I’m hoping to get a copy of the TV commercial that people have mentioned too.  Can I get some help with that?  Maybe you’ve got your DVR running and happen to come across the ad on TV?

I’m putting a bounty on the commercial.  A good quality copy uploaded to YouTube or something… that I can post here on GrubGrade.  I’ll start the bounty price at a $25.00 gift card to the grub spot of your choice… or I can just PayPal it to you. 🙂

First person to send me the best quality copy gets the prize! Hopefully the ad will be running for the next few months, but I honestly have no idea.  It’s just a guess because of the season of Lent that starts in March and ends in late April.  There are always fast food fish deals running around that time.  Need some help my friends!  Thanks!

Oh and in case you’re wondering, yeah, I did grab the $3.99 combo.  Observe:

    I want that sandwich. 😀

I am so excited for you guys – this is AWESOME! I can’t wait to go to Arby’s and take a picture too [live close by you]!

I wouldn’t know how to get the commercial from my DVR to you but I will be sure to keep an eye out for it.

Congratulations. Wait until your numbers start going up – you guys are going to be FAMOUS!

    Wait. You already are. YAY!

Congrats, gentlemen. That’s quite an accomplishment!

Can’t you just call Arby’s and get a copy of the ad sent to you either by them or their ad agency?
Seeing as they used your company in their ad, shouldn’t they have contacted you anyway about it?
I would have thought they would have needed to get your permission for the ad anyway and possibly even compensate you.

    • Ryan says:

Yeah they contacted me months ago to get permission… and of course I was cool with it. I had to sign some stuff saying I wasn’t being paid or anything. But I had no idea it would go beyond a print ad… this tv commercial thing was news to me. I’ll keep this contest running to see if anyone can track down the commercial for me… if it comes down to it, I’ll contact the ad agency. This way might be more fun for the readers. People like prizes.

If anyone wants to know how to get the commercial off thier dvr onto their pc, here’s how: You need what is called a capture card. Google “dazzle”. That is the most common capture card on the market and you can pick them up at your local best buy or radio shack for about fifty bucks. Yeah, they’re not cheap but its a really cool little gadget that comes in handy if you’re into video editing or anything like that.

Hey Ryan, Arby’s is for sale, so now that you have an ‘in’, maybe you should by it! I hear YUM is trying to unload Long John Silvers and A&W too, so you could start an empire! 🙂

    • Ryan says:

Haha, yeah right. But playing along…. hmmm, my first order of business would be to get rid of horrific Jalapeno Bites and bring back the Chicken Salad Sandwich back to my hood. 😀

I’m so happy for you Ryan. It’s a win-win situation for all of us when more fast food consumers use GrubGrade reviews to guide their choices. No greater pressure can be exerted on these restaurants to offer the best possible product than in cases where informed reviews are driving the discussion.

In response to JB’s comments about compensation, I don’t think Arby’s can compensate him because it would set a dangerous precedent–effectively rewarding bloggers for positive reviews. We can say with certainty that Ryan wouldn’t be tempted but it would open the floodgates for the all of the opportunists out there. That aside, I’m really hoping GG gets a huge publicity windfall from all of this.

    • Ryan says:

Well said. In the almost 2yrs of doing this, I haven’t once been offered compensation for positive reviews. Any free stuff I may get I use to give away to the readers. I have my own money and pay for all the food I review with my own money. I have a day job, GrubGrade is just a hobby/side gig. In all honesty, I’m just a regular guy with an opinion. I have no expertise other than taking an interest in the industry, being hungry and being too lazy to cook for myself all the time. From what I can tell, readers don’t usually agree with my reviews anyway haha. But I appreciate you still visiting and leaving your own opinions. I love In-N-Out Burger and I’ve never been a fan of Five Guys… and I’m from the east coast, go figure. 🙂

But yeah, if any of my reviews pique your curiosity to try a new menu item or avoid it altogether, I take that as a compliment… Just remember that my tastes are my tastes. A critic is just a critic. We’re all critics.

      Thanks for the support!

Is this nationwide? I’m in Houston and the Arby’s I went to didn’t seem to have this (I just drove around it, saw there was no sign for the fish sandwich, so I just went to Raising Cane’s up the road).

    • Ryan says:

Not sure. It could be a national roll-out eventually. It seems that every food establishment offers up “seasonal” fish items during Lent so we’ll see. If that’s the case, maybe March and April it could be in most places. I guess we’ll see.

  8. Scott H says:

Just saw the commercial last night, but didn’t have it recording. Very cool. I agree with the review for the most part too. If I were comparing it to the other fish sandwiches I’ve had, the Arby’s version would be among the better ones.

  9. Jim says:

Arby’s fish sandwich is an optional menu item so not all Arby’s across the country will carry it. Many of the ones that are will be promoting it in February – April. Some will be running the $3.99 combo option and others a $4 Fish Deal which is your choice of 2 Fish Sandwiches for $4 or a single sandwich combo for $4! GrubGrade is mentioned in both commercials.

  10. Tracy says:

Wow, GrubGrade on the front page of the Smart Source coupon books in the Sunday papers in the Philly, S. Jersey area. Congrats! I’m so happy to see your site getting recognized.

  11. jesi says:

i saw your commercial on tv the other day and cheered! my roommate was like, what the hell is wrong with you, and i was like “i read that website! those guys rule!” way to go, congrats!

  12. TJ says:

It’s here in Oregon, saw it today

  13. Marky says:

Just say the commercial during the Six o’clock news on WDIV in Detroit.. Good Job!

  14. Chuck says:

I saw the commercial tonight! It was on NBC Channel 10 WAVY in Norfolk, Virginia. It was on during, I think, Entertainment… right before “Minute to Win it”!

  15. James says:

Had this sandwich the other day it has to be the nastiest fish i have ever eaten.

  16. phil says:

Where can I find the audio of an old Arby’s jingle that went something like…
    “Arby’s roast beef…
the sandwich with the most beef…

it’s the (something or other)…under the hat..or something like that!
