Food News: Santa Fe Turkey Burger from Carl’s Jr.

I don’t know about this one. Earlier this year I was one of the first to check out the Carl’s Jr. Turkey Burger experiment, but despite the chain’s promise of creating something both delicious and nutritious, I was less than thrilled. Well, somebody must be eating all those Turkey Burgers, because the chain is adding a new variation to the lineup this winter. The Santa Fe Turkey Burger:

Healthier than beef? You can be the judge on that one, but at 490 calories and 22 grams of fat (6 saturated) it has the same amount of calories as the quarter-pound Big Hamburger. Something tells me it might not taste as good, either.

Anyone a fan the Carl’s Jr. Turkey Burgers? Are they worth another shot?

I had one the day they came out. It was the worst turkey burger I have ever had; it was comical how bad it was. Enough people disagreed with me that I thought I should try another one from another Carl’s, that maybe the one I had was an aberration. But I never got around to it.

What is that booger-green blob oozing out of the burger?

    • Mike N says:

Same thing I was thinking. I assume that’s the ‘green chili’, but it really looks like something I cough up and spit out in the sink when I have a bad cold.

Seriously, I think Hardee’s (aka Carls Jr) was a lot better before the tried to go ‘upscale’ or whatever it is they’ve been doing for the past decade or so. Back in the go-go ’90s, the bacon cheeseburger was the bomb!

    • Manavee says:

I think it’s the green chili, but I agree with you that if you look at it a certain way it looks distinctly like ectoplasm.

    • Zachary Jacob Zblewski says:

The description says it is a Green Chili…

Hmm, the pepperjack cheese sounds like a good touch

I’m okay with a turkey burger if it is mostly white mean cause you get a lot of protein and little fat, but dark meat ground turkey is 15% fat so no benefit over ground beef.

No matter what kind of ground turkey they use there is no comparison taste-wise, ground cow tastes really good.

I like the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich, but that is because I think the chicken is ok. Last time I hadthe turkey, it was as others have said not very good.

  6. VanessaG says:

Umm, not for me. I agree with another commenter. Hardee’s used to be much better before they tried to upscale. Back in the 90’s they were awesome. Someties, you just need to be good at one thing and keep it the main thing….not add more!

  7. Natalie says:

I think they already have a grilled chicken sandwich with these toppings…I guess adding a Santa Fe turkey burger wasn’t too much of a stretch for them.

Actually, I wonder if the turkey burger or chicken version has more calories. Off to research…

There’s no such thing, AS A TURKEY BURGER!!

  9. kikurage says:

Green Chili sauce looks like a slime.
    That will diminish viewer’s apetite.

Well, when the drive in person asked if I wanted to try it, i said, why not! How bad could it be (love Carl Jr’s hamburgers). It was worse than worst. What is that meat anyway? It was the most horrible fst food expereince I have had.

the OFP says that a burger isn’t supposed to be healthy, you don’t eat a hamburger for it’s nutritional capabilities, you just don’t, still a turkey burger could be yummy if handled right…bacon, cheese, but if you’re going to do all that you might as well have a regular burger… to this day I still think that 80/20 chuck is the best way to go.

  12. Ted says:

I have had their turkey burgers and while I agree the turkey a bit of a lack of flavor, I do like the guacamole turkey burger as the guac more than makes up for the lack of flavor.

  13. Spike says:

I’m not sure what all the fuss is about, I had one today and enjoyed it as much as the Santa Fe Chicken. The chile, sauce and cheese are identical, it’s been so long since I’ve had anything OTHER than the turkey burger (regular) at Carls, I’m pretty sure it’s even the same bun. A nice change, enjoyed it just fine.

  14. Cindy says:

I absolutely love the Santa Fe turkey burger. I don’t know what everyone is talking about either. I think it is delicious. I crave it more than I crave the beef burgers. Someone said the slimy green sauce looked unappetizing. But that isn’t sauce. It is a real green chile and they are just slimy haha. And the santa fe sauce is amazing. The turkey tastes just fine to me. I am going to go buy one right now! MMMM!

  15. Chris says:

    I love those Turkey Burgers.

  16. Trish the Dish says:

I had one this evening only because I had a coupon. It actually tasted pretty good considering it’s turkey and that is usually flavorless as a burger. I added a touch of honey mustard! MMMMM! But I think I will stick to beef!

  17. janea says:

People who are saying turkey burgers are gross or bland or dry obviously just don’t know how to cook.

I just don’t trust any fast food. I wonder what parts of the turkey they use for this :/
