Three things jump out at me about this commercial:
1. Were their tacos ever that big and that full? Wow. 2. Did that guy really blow a kiss at the drive thru guy? Or was it a drive thru gal with a really, really masculine haircut? 3. The chick in the last season who pulls food [cheese?] out of her mouth and puts it in her date’s mouth – gross. just gross. [and would have been a deal breaker for me on a date. Adios amigo!]
I actually came to the comment section here to verify what I had just seen, and skippymom asked (questions 1 and 2) the same things that were really messing me up in the head. I guess Taco Bell had big tacos AND were pretty progressive back then? Or, was it a severely disturbing editing mistake, or were haircuts commonly unisex back then. LOL!
As far as question 3 is concerned, if I’m into a chick, I wouldn’t mind eating the cheese that may have touched her lips. I’ll eat just about anything, which is what attracted me to this web site to begin with.
*scene, not season…oops
Whoa, were their tacos ever really that huge??
look at the happy child playing with her food. Hey kids, eat at taco bell and play with your dinner like playdough! The jingle and look of this commercial is VERY American; unlike now a days they are trying to look more hispanic. and yes SUPER SIZED TACOS! crazy
That would be a Taco Bell Grande, I believe — basically a regular taco except big sized (which pre-dated the ‘super-size’ craze…)
Also, I do think the drive-thru worker is female, she’s just sporting one of those Dorothy Hammel do’s that were popular at the time.
And, I believe (but can’t swear to it — I should check the youtube comments) that the main Taco Bell employee girl was part of the original cast of “Facts of Life”…
Ahhh, yes! Taco Bell Grande. Thank you Mike! They should have those in a soft shell. Err, then that would be a Burrito Supreme, I suppose.
And thank you for clearing up the hair cut thing. I didn’t think even Taco Bell was that progressive back then.
Although the Taco Bell commercial is from 1984, a time when “The Facts of Life” was still on the air, that is no Lisa Whelchel. Looks similar to her, but it’s not her. She was too much of a christian nut job during this time to bring herself to do such a thing.
That is indeed a Taco Bell Grade. I forgot how long they were around, but I do know they had a similar run in the early nineties of a Grande style taco minus the tomatoes and sour cream. It was around the time you could get the six and twelve pack boxes of tacos for one low price. I never understood why they discontinued them.
No no no, I didn’t mean Lisa Whelchel!! It was Julie Piekarski. (see http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0682161/ ) She was one of the Facts of Life girls in the early episodes where there were a dozen or so girls, before they pared it down to the main four. (And pre-George Clooney)
Those are the creepiest hairstyles I have ever seen…
This was back when you could order one of every single item on the menu for about $22
I don’t remember this commercial, but I think it was before we had a Taco Bell. We didn’t get one here in my small town in NC until the early nineties!
Their cheese doesn’t look like that anymore
