What Do You Think Of Dairy Queen’s Mini Blizzard?

Back in April we brought you news of a new Blizzard size coming to Dairy Queen… the time is here and in full swing!  Sometimes, I’m cool with not consuming a day’s worth of calories with a simple dessert.  That’s why the new Dairy Queen Mini Blizzard is a welcome change and long overdue.  A cheaper option in a smaller package… Thank You DQ!!!

What do you think of the new smaller DQ Blizzard option? Leave a comment and I’ll pick a winner for a Dairy Queen $5.00 gift card.  Sound good?

  1. That size is so perfect! I love it!

  2. Jill N says:

I love that DQ’s portion sizes are getting smaller, and not bigger like the rest of America’s restaurants.

  3. Fran says:

I can never finish these things and they end up sitting in the freezer. I wish they had a frozen coconut yogurt version with some sort of crunchy caramel in it 😀 (if they do I stand corrected). But I definitely like the fact that they’re available in a size I may actually finish with the help of my boyfriend. I remember getting a milk shake at the McDonalds in Italy and it was always 6 ounces which I still never finished. Now that I Think about it, maybe half the size of this one and I would be able to finish it without my lactose intolerance kicking in :().

  4. Jess says:

Hmmm…maybe size doesn’t always matter! 😉 Still sounds delicious either way.

  5. Alice says:

I love the idea of a smaller version of the blizzard.

  6. Philip says:

I’d use the mini option as an after dinner shot.

  7. Kevin says:

Same blizzard taste and half the calories? Yes please! Just had one a week ago…

  8. Bryan C says:

“Thank You DQ!” indeed. This is the perfect size for a snack and for me to try more flavors instead of getting my favorite each time.

  9. I understand why people would like it, so for that reason alone, it is a good thing. Me, on the other hand, would much rather go for the bigger sizes. If I’m going to hit Dairy Queen, I don’t want to “waste” my trip by limiting myself to a Mini-Blizzard.

  10. Jessica Leigh says:

As long as they keep the pecan mudslide, I don’t care about any other dessert item! I’m happy about this though, because my boyfriend is diabetic, and the small blizzard just about comatizes him b/c his blood sugar goes up so much, but he can’t resist them. Now maybe he’ll order the smallest size instead!

  11. Clevegal42 says:

The regular small size is too big, so I love the mini blizzard. I don’t have to feel guilty about all that melted ice cream sitting in a cup.

  12. jason says:

A lot of the time my wife wants dessert after dinner but I am too stuffed…this makes the perfect size for me!

  13. J.B. says:

    I like that idea.
Why can’t more companies realize that people don’t always want a huge size.
Tropical Smoothie is a perfect example, you can only get a huge size smoothie. I would actually buy them if they were smaller.

I actually love the little frostys that you get with the frosty key tag from Wendys.

  14. Jrdubn says:

This is great! Same with snack size mcflurries!

  15. Halevy says:

I’m going to have to agree with IndianapolisEater. If I’m going to DQ, I’m going to go all out, especially since I only treat myself to things like Blizzards once or twice a week. But I can definitely see the appeal the mini size holds for other people.

  16. maxchain says:

I look forward to my smiling death the next month the Thin Mint Blizzard is featured, when I end up getting a Mini every night before bed.

  17. ryan says:

It’s a great size. I had a mini french pie one the other day and my gf had an oreo one and it was just enough.

  18. Koni says:

Hooray! I am totally stoked, actually. My boyfriend loves blizzards, but I can never eat a whole one, even a small. This might be the perfect size for me!

  19. Jperonto says:

I love the new mini blizzards! The things that were stopping me before were the size and the guilt so this is a new perfect option! Hope I win! 🙂

  20. Meg says:

Honestly, we all know most Americans are overweight, and if that’s the case – then I love the smaller Blizzards. BUT if you’re healthy, and want a Blizzard, do the damn thing and go all the way – get a bigger one.

  21. Lindsey says:

I also like the new idea for a ‘mini’ version. Good marketing strategy!

  22. ChrisLad says:

It’s a good idea. Nice step by DQ. The kids items at places are often childish and very limited. This gives someone looking for a small treat a good option.

  23. Justin W says:

Reminds me of those little cups of “Ben & Jerry’s” you can buy at the grocery. Someone may want less but they most likely aren’t going to waste half what they buy so they end up eating it all anyways. Small size seems like a good idea to me and it seems to be the direction a lot of places are heading.

  24. Mike says:

I like the idea, but the price should be about $1.50 for how small it is

  25. Jenny says:

I agree with IndianapolisEater. I have no problem finishing a large, and I am on the scrawny size. Mmmmm…..Ice cream….

  26. bizzard barista says:

i used to work at dairy queen in high school. damn cheesecake blizzards. the frozen pieces would thaw ad clump together in one big sticky mess. when we went to scoop some out for a blizzard, you would dip the spoon into the container and the the cheesecake would come out in one huge piece. and everyone ordered one…ive tried ever flavor under the sun and then some. the cook used to sneak them out at night in his pants. (nothing was free for employees, not even straws or napkins…bunch of cheapskate owners. i havent had a blizzard since high school. i think i am overdue.

  27. Charlotte says:

Great idea–the sizes of Blizzards have always been a bit bloated–however those commercials are horrible. The first one you have posted is the worst, something about those people really pisses me off. Are they just perpetually chasing Dairy Queen Blizzards? Is this the nature of their journey? Who buys a Blizzard then falls asleep with it in their hand? What kind of backwards moral code do these people live by? Do they know how to chew with their mouths closed? Will their marriage survive?

Whatever, I’m just bitter that there isn’t a DQ Brazier within 50 miles of where I live.

  28. Haley W. says:

I love this. I can’t eat a ton of ice cream in one sitting, so even with a small, most of it goes in the freezer for later. When I saw that they came out with a mini version I think my heart skipped a beat!

  29. Shawn says:

I always ended up getting a medium because it was more bang for my buck….now I get a mini because it’s less belly for my buck. But seriously, they’ve caught on that in a culture where everybody is becoming vigilant about calorie intake, blizzard portions were keeping people from going there. The mini solves that. Good strategy.

    (Long-time reader, first-time poster =D )

  30. Nora says:

It’s great, I can never finish a small size one, anyways.

  31. Rodzilla says:

I love the new size, it makes the blizzard more of an acceptable treat and less of an over the top indulgence.

  32. Tracy says:

I love the new smaller size. I use to feel so guilty eating a blizzard so I stick half in the freezer. It was never the same after being in a home freezer. The minis are a perfect size for a splurge. Love the chocolate xtreme. I only wish they weren’t so expensive. Our local DQ charges $3.19 for the minis. Seems a bit much for the size but it’s so good it’s hard to resist.

  33. Patrick says:

I love the idea, but they’re just so expensive… I’d rather just get a small for a couple extra quarters

  34. Eva says:

I think it’s good. Considering most of them are close to 1000 calories, they are a bit large for after a meal. Though I’d probably still get a large and stick it in the freezer

  35. Brittany says:

I love the fact that they made a smaller blizzard. Its really cool, lol. Would love to grab one soon……..

  36. j says:

This size is perfect for me, though I still don’t know if I could finish it. May have to attempt it today…

  37. Colin says:

Quite frankly, the Mini is a ripoff. It’s a good bit smaller than the small Blizzard, but it’s only something like $.50 cheaper where I’m at.

If they priced the Mini at $1.50 or something in that range, I’d have absolutely no problem with it. I love where their heads are at with the concept, but I hate what they’re charging.

  38. Mandy says:

I like the option of a smaller size, but I know I will never actually get it. Bigger blizzard=better.

  39. Vanessa says:

I think it’s a great idea. It is a perfect size for an after dinner dessert or a dessert for small kids. However, since I don’t get blizzards much (because I can devour a large), I may be getting them more often but in the snack size. Then I won’t feel as guilty! I love this idea!!

  40. Nina says:

Perfect size for a blizzard, especially for me since I have trouble Eatting the smallest:D

  41. Raiders757 says:

I like the idea of a smaller size. It’s nice to enjoy a Blizzard with a little less guilt.

  42. Jesse says:

I would never get it because I love Dairy Queen and always get a medium or large, but I guess it is good to have more options for those who do not need a medium or large like me ha.

  43. ChrisSh says:

It’s a great idea, one that more places should embrace. Often when I eat sweet things like a Blizzard I find that halfway through it, I’m really just eating it to eat it.

  44. Adam Bomb says:

I know the contest is already over, but I still wanted to throw out my opinion on the mini Blizzard. For me, it’s a great idea. When I get a Blizzard, I always go for a small and still feel like it’s just too much ice cream for me. Too much fat, too many calories, and too much sugar! But the mini is perfect, and I won’t feel tempted to overeat just to finish it 🙂

  45. missouri says:

Agree with the concept, but the price needs to better reflect the portion size.

  46. ML says:

    mini blizzard = max smile!!

  47. quincie says:

I really enjoy this size, its perfect

  48. this.is.NOT.SPARTA says:

perfect size for those of us who cant finish a regular sized or even small one without feeling sick

  49. what a rip says:

This thing is so small. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was maybe a $1.00 but $2.29 is too much for this small amount. Boo DQ!

  50. Sara says:

This thing is the biggest rip off. I think it actually shrunk in size since it first came out too. I got one when they first came out and then one recently. I’m pretty sure they somehow made it even smaller. And I paid 2.49 for this little thing that has like 3 bites in it. It is a good concept for kids. But why on earth are they charging 2.49 for a tiny little thing like that??? It should be like $1.
