Food News: Charles Barkley and the $5 Buck Box from Taco Bell
Sir Charles Barkley is taking a break from kissing old men and donkeys to help promote Taco Bell’s $5 Buck Box. You’ve got your choice of the Cheesy Gordita Crunch Box or the Volcano Box (see our review of the Volcano Box). A ton of grub for $5.00.
Cheesy Gordita Crunch Box: Cheesy Gordita Crunch, Burrito Supreme, Crunchy Taco, Cinnamon Twists, Medium Drink (1270 calories and 63 grams of fat)
Volcano Box: Volcano Taco, Volcano Double Beef Burrito, Crunchy Taco, Cinnamon Twists, Medium Drink (1380 calories and 76 grams of fat)
65-70 grams of fat…
well that is the daily allotted requirement for young people of average height/weight.
that sodium is also not too high….
Therefore, eat a box as the only thing you eat during the day… top it off with a lot of raw vegetables… and you really won’t be gaining any weight in a day!
Do they realize it reads “five dollar bucks box” – or does this have something to do with the Milwaukee Bucks?
@rightclue – With that much Taco Bell & raw fiber, you will probably be losing weight. Rapidly.
indeed because of the sub-2000 calories (could vary for people and over 5’10” and those who have more muscle mass/work out regularly)
Still, there are transfats and a lot of saturated fats in there. while eating ONE BOX ONCE IN A WHILE won’t be too bad for a young person, it’s when a person turns this meal in a staple that LDLs rise, atherosclerosis occurs, and the steps to a giant middle age waistline and congestive heart failure begin…
of course, that’s only if people eat two of these boxes every day…
Personally I think any fast food diet can work… the only issue is calorie/fat maintenance.
As for this box itself, I will be trying one soon. I am not too fond of the Volcano burrito. While I thoroughly enjoy the spiciness of the sauce, the rest of the burrito leaves something to be desired… and at 800 calories and skimpy fillings, it must be a tremendous amount of fat in that sauce.
The Gordita box looks much more appetizing to me.
And that “Bucks” comment led me to an idea! Taco Bell’s marketing should have 30 different boxes and inspire us to collect them all… those monkeys in suits at the marketing department missed out on that boat…
ha, this is just horrifying.
but i will say that back in my fast food/meat eating days, i was a big fan of taco bell. kids meal–two soft tacos (“Just meat and cheese!” I would yell from the back seat), nachos, cinnamon twists, TOY.
I was just at my local KFC/Taco Bell and the boxes are $5.99 there. 🙁 They even had a little purple “.99” sticker that they stuck to the upper right of the word “Buck” on every poster. Those tricky sons a…
It’s a franchise thing. What are you gonna do?
the Taco Bell Express in the mall near me (the individually owned Taco Bell is a bit further) still sells Big Taste Tacos for $1.79.
They also still have the Cheesy Double Beef Burrito for $2.29.
Talk about not listening to the market! Of course malls are different…
The Gordita box looks good. I share what is in the box when I buy it.
For the Round Mound of Rebound that’s a healthy snack.
Saw him play in college, dude was hefty.
I couldn’t eat all of this…never again!
Five dollars. Huh. Not too bad a price for a big box of diarrhea.
wow 5 dollar box? no its like 6.99 for a volcano box at the taco bell here.
