Food News: BK XT Steakhouse Burgers from Burger King

All the fast food burger joints are competing for “premium” burger supremacy.  The BK XT Steakhouse Burger has been around for a while in my area, but I’m not sure about the trio you see below.  Wendy’s has their Bacon Deluxe (see our review), McDonald’s has a line of Angus Burgers (see our review) and “The King” cannot be left out of all the fun.  By the way, these BK patties are about 30% larger than the McD’s Angus Burgers.

  • Steakhouse XT Burger ($3.99): “The Steakhouse XT™ burger is all about an extra-thick, “how am I going to finish this,” seasoned beef patty topped with crisp lettuce, red-ripe tomatoes, onions, ketchup, and creamy mayo. When you order the Steakhouse XT™ burger bring your hunger. Maybe even a friend’s hunger.”
  • A.1. Steakhouse XT Burger ($4.49): “An extra-thick flame-broiled 7 oz.* beef patty topped with mayo, crispy onions, A.1.® Thick & Hearty Steak Sauce, plus American cheese, lettuce and red-ripe tomatoes. Phew. Can you handle the A.1.® Steakhouse XT™ burger?”
  • Smokey Cheddar Steakhouse XT Burger ($4.49): This burger is the “limited time only” of the bunch.  This burger features BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon as it’s main players.

    These were at the Burger Kings in my city a looooong time ago, like early last year maybe? Then they were gone after a few months, except for the regular XT. I forgot all about them. I liked the A1 burger.

    Your city likely was one of the test markets for this product.

    Since it must have been a success, it has gone nationwide now!

    Anyway, more burger, more protein. Goodie.

    Other than the starchy white bread bun and some of the excess oil dripping on it, this burger is great for a ketogenic diet. High fat, high protein, and low (?) carbs. If only they offered a wheat bun…

    Are these made by Goodyear, because these things are rubbery as hell!

    I’ll stick to the Angus burger. I tried one of these last year(maybe I was in a test market) and it was awful!

    Saw an article on QSR’s online mag about these…seems all BK’s now have a new cost saving broiler that allow them to make these extra thick burgers, along with other stuff..including Ribs and flame grilled desserts…

    We have had these forever here in Hampton Roads and I have been sooo addicted to their 3 cheese version, which has a yummy peppercorn sauce, its huge though so I usually dont get fries or anything with it. My husband says it tastes like a resturant burger. The quality of them (at least here in VA) has always been superb, I think it is the peppercorn sauce that really makes it (I havent tried any other flavors) the bacon on it is unnecsisary as it brings nothing to the party.

    Burger King…it sounded so good on paper, but didn’t taste any better…I’ve tried all 3 BK Steakhouse burgers and all 3 Angus’ from MickeyD’s…the angus burger has a far superior flavor, the buns are better tasting, and as much as I love A1 steaksauce, the simpler toppings on the angus burgers are a little tastier also, the mushroom & swiss angus could use a shot of A1 but it is still good. The bacon & cheese angus is the best in my humble opinion. The BK burgers looked good, but the buns seemed bland, the toppings just didn’t work with the other tastes and the burger itself was a disappointment.
    I originally expected the taste of the BK burger to be more like the angus, and McD’s burger to be more tasteless like the Steakhouse …thats the way it usually is… kudos to McDonalds for getting this one right
