Snack Review: Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich

The chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich is not really an accidental match made in heaven like chocolate covered pretzels.  It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two soft chocolate chip cookies would be a great combination.  This dessert is usually nestled in a convenience store freezer packaged in a yellow wrapper like gold in a cold treasure chest.  A favorite of mine, the Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich.

This ice cream sandwich is based off the Original “Chipwich” which has the addition of chocolate chips coating the vanilla ice cream.  In this case, I believe the imitator is better than the original.  The quality of the chocolate chip cookie on the Nestle Toll House variety is the winner hands down.

Being kept under the cold conditions doesn’t prevent the cookie from having a nice texture.  For a store bought snack dessert, the Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich is a GrubGrade Hall of Famer.

Too bad that Nestle has shrunk the amount of ice cream and the size of the cookies bit by bit over the last few years hoping nobody would notice . . .

I wish there were a competing product available.

  2. Ryan…not sure why you’re linking to this older post…but since I missed it earlier….this is my favorite ice cream sandwich (tied with It’s-It but they’re different). I spent one summer with my brother eating these EVERY single day. They’re SO freakin’ good!!!!! You’ve got to let they soften for maybe a minute or so. Ahhhhhh……SOOOOOOO good!!!!

@ Bear … Yeah sometimes I’ll tweet random older posts in case people missed them if they are new visitors to the site. Yeah I love these.

  4. These used to be my favorite until the other day when I bought one , and when I opened it up getting ready to take a bite and I see this big long black hair stuck in the ice cream. I emailed nestle with the upc and product code and they haven’t replied . I would like a better way to let them know unless they are just ignoring the fact. For $2.89ea. I expect that a huge company like nestle or dryers, would what to take care of the problem or at least refund my money . Now I can never eat one again ,It makes me want to puke just thinking about it. Thanks for your time, If Nestle reads this I just want to let them know that the hairy ice cram sandwich is still in my freezer if they want it back.

Like the author, I went through phases where my guy friends and I would each eat one of those things every single day (much to the envy of our girlfriends, who couldn’t fathom the wonders of the young male metabolism).

Like J – I’ve definitely noticed how Nestle has shrunk the product over the years. When I used to eat them on a regular basis, I feel like they were either 1000 calories per cookie or something ridiculous (I remember my girlfriend at the time pointing that out to me and mentioning how it was well over half her total daily calorie intake). I think the current incarnation is like a measly 380-390 calories or so. Oh for the halcyon days of the noble chipwichii!

I can’t find this product to buy in bulk. Does anyone know where you can purchace a box of these? It’s annoying to only get one at a time.
