I normally don’t comment, but it’s borderline criminal not to include Graeter’s Ice Cream for the Dessert Category. It may be, hands down, the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted. Hardly any places use the French Pot method anymore and you can certainly tell which ones do by taste.

I am so sorry I missed the Southern poll because with the exception of Blue Bell Ice Cream and Piggly Wiggly I recognized nothing on this list, so I can’t vote. Can’t wait to see the results and the comments tho’.

  3. Adam Bomb says:

Oh man, it looks like Indiana got the shaft on this “central division” thing! The only brands/restaurants that I recognize on that entire list are Jay’s chips, White Castle, Meijer, and Big Red. I don’t know any of those pizza/sandwich/mexican places 🙁

  4. Jessica says:

I don’t recognize many on this list either, but I’m in the south and I didn’t recognize many on that list. I wish there was a link to the website of these places so I could find out more about them!

  5. @CabbyRam – Shoulda nominated them! Sounds incredible though.

@SkippyMom – Well at least you’re with us now 🙂

@Adam Bomb – Did you not put in a nomination?

Jessica – That sort of on purpose. We want people to vote on ones they actually have tried and know of….not just hype based voting. The winners get the honor of a link:

I no longer live in Illinois, but of course I’d have to choose Giordano’s for the pizza parlor category.

  7. AJ says:

I don’t usually comment, but I have to point out that Zapp’s chips are from my home state of Louisiana-not a central state!

  8. Cassaendra says:

Yikes, I haven’t heard of any of these, with the exception of White Castle :\, Big Red, and Vernor’s. Then again, I live in NE Ohio. I love Green Rivers from going to Farrell’s in Hawaii when I was a wee lass.

  9. Adam Bomb says:

@ Bear: Nah, I didn’t. There’s not really anything around here that’s worth mentioning. We have a few local places, but nothing that anyone outside my city would be familiar with. Just a crapload of chain restaurants 🙁

In BFE Kansas (which is as central as you can get), the only things available on this list are Ferrara Pan Candy, Blue Bell Ice Cream (If you can find it), and Big Red. Guess I won’t be voting either.

  11. Eick says:

If Vernor’s Ginger Ale doesn’t win this, then the odds of me sending someone a box of dog crap in the mail increase exponentially.

  12. I guess I should have specified again what I said in the South region voting post:

“Keep in mind these were the readers nominations and GrubGrade has made no distinction as to which ones are actually regional (exceptions include the exclusion of obvious ones such as Diet Coke or Papa John’s) so feel free to flame anyone that nominated inappropriate choices.”

Voters had the option to nominate whomever they deemed regional and appropriate…I fully encourage flaming and mocking in the comments for blatant stupidity with regards to this 🙂

    P.S. @Eick – Hahahahahahahhahahahaha

Whoever submitted these nominations sure seems to like the weiner… ;P

Somehow some of my suggestions got put in this poll. They’re located in Virginia, which was placed in the North for this contest, despite being a part of the South or Mid Atlantic region of the country. Maybe when I said Mid Atlantic, it threw things off. Oooops!

I had to pass on the soft drink vote. As much as I love Dr Pepper I can’t stand DP with cane sugar.
The grocery was tough also. I’ve been to Meijer and I’ve been to Jewel but there is something about Piggly Wiggly that I like. I’ve seen some junky PWs and nice PWs but I’ve never been to any in the Central part of the country, only in the Carolinas and Georgia.

  16. IBeAnonymous says:

You had Freebirds on that list!! Amazing burritos, get yourself a Monster and it’s like eating TWO meals!

P.S. Like I said in my last comment, Texas really should have been in the Southern Division so we could have voted for these places that are also in Texas:

    Burger Joint
    Cheeburger Cheeburger
    Five Guys

    Blue Bell ice cream

    Grocery Store
    Food Lion

    Sub/Sandwich Shop
    Firehouse Subs
    Jason’s Deli

    Waffle House

I’ve never heard of most of these and if the south got coca-cola why didnt we get national chains like KFC and Wendy’s possibley A&W too but im not sure if that is a central thing, oh and pizza hut thats central too, Jets Pizza should have been here too, or pizzaria Uno because they have alot of locations now too
