There you go folks. There are your National winners of the great Grub Battle Royal. If you’re looking for good eats apparently you’ll wanna head down South. I would’ve thought the Northeast to be the prevailing region but alas I was mistaken. I guess it makes sense that the land that is famous for hushpuppies, grits, deep fried Snickers, Frito pie, Po’ Boys, muffulettas and Squirrel Nut Zippers (just to name a few) would be the clear winner.

On the other hand if you’re searching for a way to ease those stomach pangs you shouldn’t head to the middle of the States. The Central region just got dominated with not one winner. The West represented fairly well and the Northeast at least had one winner…..sort of….I wouldn’t really call Chipotle a regional spot. So what do you say fair reader, did this shake out right or is everyone crazy?

I’m curious too, has anyone tried all of these? I personally haven’t had Mellow Mushroom or Chick-fil-A but I can vouch for the other 7 and I agree with the consensus. And if I’m to believe what I hear about those other two, they certainly deserve the honor bestowed upon them. Congrats to all the winners, feel free to send us coupons to give to our readers (wink, wink). Now go out there and feast on some good grub or go cry that you don’t have one near you 😛

I’m glad to see that Chic-Fil-A won the wild card. It’s the best fast food joint out there, period! Their chicken sandwiches can’t be beat by anyone, their salads are good, and their restaurants are always kept clean.

i must say I do miss the 80’s, when they could only be found in malls in my area. They made employees stand outside the store with treys of chicken all cut up with toothpicks to grab them by. You could walk by and keep on snagging them like an hor devour tray. I would fill up for free before I hit the Sam Goody and Camelot music store to by some records. Hickory Farms would do the same, so it was a great combo. Ah yes, the good ol’ days, when times were less PC, and people weren’t so stuffy. I miss the 80’s.

Coca-Cola? But what about the Pepsi Challenge??

I call bull**** on Coca-Cola. It’s not regional.

Also Dairy Queen. I can go in one in New York state, Texas or West Coast. Oh well it was a contest and supposed to be fun. My votes lost.

Hooray for Chick-fil-a, In-n-Out, Mellow Mushroom, and Trader Joe’s! Good picks I say.

Just so-so for DQ, and I’ve never had Chipotle, but I have to say boo on Firehouse – Jason’s Deli all the way.

“Coca-Cola? But what about the Pepsi Challenge??”

It seems Pepsi lost that challenge.

I love Trader Joe’s but there’s a 1/10th section of Wegman’s that basically TJ’s. I’m saddened that Wegman’s did not come out victorious. For those that voted for TJ’s…you must’ve never come across a Wegman’s. 😀

TOTALLY AGREE. I was in the Hunt Valley store last week and I was like a kid in a candy store. I got weck rolls and a Loganberry soda (never found outside of Buffalo at any other store) and about a dozen bagels. Wegman’s has an amazing bakery department. Their bagels (.70 each BTW) are the best I’ve ever had. Anyone ever had a Marco Polo bagel?

    Um yea, awsomeness right there.

PEPSI Rules! Don’t know how Coke won that one, and I don’t agree with the results.
    Chick-Fil-A: greatest chicken sandwich ever!
Firehouse Subs: I will definitely try them out now!

I can totally vouch for Mellow Mushroom! I grew up in Atlanta, and I have been going to Mellow Mushroom since 1992. The best part Mellow Mushroom is you can design your own slice with toppings such as ricotta cheese, pesto, feta, etc. I highly recommend that if you are in the south (Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina) – you try it!!! You will not be disappointed.

As a Mid-Westerner, I’ve only had In-N-Out once. I still dream about it.

  13. […] South stole the show this year in GrubGrade’s National Grub Battle. Best Pizza, Best Soda, Best Chip, Best Sandwich and Wildcard all went to southern-based […]

Totally agree with most of these (Especially Chipotle and Kettle Chips!) Going to be visiting my first Mellow Mushroom this weekend, I’m from New England and we are visiting Georgia, so this is very exciting!
