Who Has The Best Drive-Thru Service?

From QSR Mag:

For the sixth time in the Drive-Thru Performance Study’s 12-year history, Chick-fil-A ranked No. 1 overall. Of the 20 brands surveyed during the four-month-long test, Chick-fil-A scored highest, earning 17.8 and placing No. 1 in two of the four categories tested.

In addition to ranking No. 1 overall, Chick-fil-A also offered customers the friendliest service during the study, meaning it had the highest percentage of crew members who said “please” and “thank you,” smiled, made eye contact, and had a pleasant demeanor.

I’m in the group that would vote Chick-fil-A the winner every year.  I’ve used their drive-thru in multiple States and never have I encountered a bad experience.  I’m ready to hear your horror stories and your great experiences.  So in your opinion…Who has the best drive-thru service?

I agree, CFA is the best. A recent visit to our local Taco Bell, then to Roy Rogers, left my boyfriend feeling quite upset that they couldn’t understand what he was asking for. At least at Taco Bell, they got the order right after he repeated it over and over. At Roy Rogers he again had to repeat the order several times and when we got to the window, they still didn’t have it right.

  2. Chick-Fil-A here even has a guy outside taking orders sometimes and its very very quick

I always get fantastic service from Wendy’s for some reason. They’re probably the fastest drive-thru I’ve ever been in.

Steak n Shake is always super friendly, but not the fastest (but they’re not supposed to be!).

  4. John says:

I second Wendy’s, they usually have fast service.

On a somewhat related note, does anyone really understand drive thru’s absolute priority over in-house diners in terms of service? Some places I go to (cough, Taco Bell, cough) will completely ignore preparing your meal until the drive thru orders are complete. I will concede that waiting in the restaurant is probably more comfortable/enjoyable than waiting in your car; but I would gladly wait an extra minute or two in my car while in the drive thru, if it didn’t mean an extra five or ten minutes when i wait at the counter…

@ John … Good question… I think Taco Bell does something like 75% of their business via drive-thru so maybe they do that in order to cut down on the vehicle traffic piling up. There really needs to be a balance of counter service and drive-thru though.

I’m gonna have to agree with Chick-Fil-A! They’re on the ball 117% of the time, even during the lunch rush! Most importantly, they’ve never, ever put ice in my drink when I’ve told them not to (it’s not like the stuff in the fountain/lemonade dealy is room temp!). Everyone else has made this fatal error at least once, and I’ll curse them all with my dying breath.

I can’t give an opinion on Chik-Fil-A as I have only been through there drive-thru one time, but the one time was awesome and they were quick and very sweet.

I would like to put my vote in for a specific fast food restaurant because, without fail, they ROCK in drive-thru – they are unfailingly happy, quick, the food is HOT and always correct. We visit them whenever we go camping near Fredericksburg VA.

Here is a shout out to the McDonald’s at the Massaponex exit off 95 in VA – “You got skillz – You can doooooooo it” [something one of the drive thru girls was saying to the soda machine and cracking us up]

While I agree chic fe let has the best overall I have had one bad experiance. The lady was just rude. Plus I don’t like how u only get two sauces for xlarge meals I always have to ask for more. I love in and outs service the best they get paid good so the kids love it and it shows.

Taco Bell-horrible. What are you supposed to do when you order a cheese quesadilla and after you get all the way home unwrap it to find a CHICKEN quesadilla? And you’re a vegetarian!! WTF, mate?

  9. I agree with CFA. However, every fast food place has a few stars and a few duds. My closest MCD and Arby’s are awesome and could give any CFA a run for it. KFC seems to be at the bottom end regardless of location.

we dont have CFA here so i cant compare service… but i do get oddly amazing service whenever i go to taco johns… of the “why does this guy enjoy his job so much?” variety. they’re always polite and never forget my sauces, which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine.
the taco bells in my town are pretty horrible, but the one i go to occasionally in st paul has awesome service, so polite.

Chick-Fil-A is always amazing whenever I use their drive-through. The line at lunchtime quite literally wraps around 3/4s of the building at a minimum, if not all the way around the building. And yet I get through it quicker than if I went to KFC and sat in line behind four cars. Not to mention I actually once received a comment on how the tie I was wearing looked nice while at the drive-thru window at CFA. Can’t say that’s ever happened at any other fast food place!!

  12. Yum Yucky says:

CFA for sure! I’m also impressed that they have people walking the floor offering to refill your drink and/or dispose of your trash. Ours does anyways.

  13. Vladimir says:

I’m pretty sure that if the employees at Chick-Fil-A ever give bad service, they will be immediately taken to a basement somewhere and flogged for several hours. I remember once I went through a CFA drive-thru, made an order, the guy at the window sighed as he gave me my food, I checked my order at a stop-light just minutes away, saw I got the completely wrong order, drive right back, and there was no trace of him.

He was replaced by a friendly and apologetic young girl.

  14. Raiders757 says:

Count me in with the CFA crowd. They have the fastest drive-thru hands down. Every single store in my area does, and have so ever since they moved from the malls to streets.

The worst, is Arby’s. The closest Arby’s to me being the worst one. If two or three cars are in front of you, you cna count on a 30 minute wait 4 out of 5 times. Their service is pathetic. Even indoors.

  15. Alex says:

Around here, it’s consistantly been Taco Bell. McD’s, Wendy’s, B-K have all messed up my order. Taco Bell never has.

  16. John says:

I think IN-N-OUT Burger has exemplary service, both inside the restaurant and when you order by drive through. They’re reasonably quick enough considering how outrageously popular they are, and your food is guaranteed fresh. Also, they’re famous for taking highly customized orders.

  17. Justin says:

Yum Yucky, I noticed that too! Where I went to was in Southern Georgia, and I was driving through. It’s a great place, I’d love to go there again!

  18. Chris Lad says:

I’d agree with Chick fil A being the best and taco bell being the worst. At taco bell they seem to mess up my fairly simple orders regularly.

Chick fil A benefits from being southern based in my opinion. The fast food service and people located there tend to be more polite and friendly to everyone.

  19. Varta says:

All I have to say is, the drive thru guy at my McDonalds noticed when I got a haircut. That’s pretty ridiculous.

  20. Dee says:

    In N Out, hands down.

  21. sunny0ne says:

So far, i would have to say Carl’s Jr.

MacDonald’s can’t understand a burger without cheese. They can manage to an order for a cup of coffee wrong.

My last visit to KFC, I sat behind the car at the window for 7 minutes and then, when I got to the window they wanted me to drive around front and wait 3 minutes for the fries. I refused and cancelled the order. Went to Sizzler and got a salad bar to go. No drive-thru, but their chicken is better anyway.
