Food News: New Subway Melts

New to Subway…Subway Melts.  You know the customization at Subway is anyway you want it so I’m sure these “Limited Time” Melts can still be ordered once the deal is done.  The two newcomers to the menu are the Chicken Marinara Melt and the Chicken Cordon Bleu Melt.

Subway Melts

These two new “Melts” are in addition to the Subway Melt and the Big Philly Cheesesteak.  So what makes it a melt?  Just a different name in my opinion…toasted sub…melt…all the same.

So like, is the chicken in the Chicken Marinara breaded (i.e. making it a lot like the Chicken Parmesan)? I’ve been missing that one for a while, which they’ve no longer offered since my local Subways no longer had any of the breaded chicken. Although actually, what is the difference between a Chicken Marinara and a Chicken Parmesan at Subway then?

These sandwiches are not terribly creative. All the cordon bleu has is ham added to the chicken pieces, and the chicken marinara is breaded chicken with the meatball marinara sauce.

Ooo. Looks like it’s time to reconnect with my first healthy love. We’ve been estranged for quite awhile. “Here I come, subway!!!”

Those look terrible! Doesn’t making a fatty sandwich defeat the purpose behind Subway? Just get a 6-inch Turkey and be good to yourself!

  5. Chris Lad says:

Unless it’s a new product the philly cheeseasteak from Subway has about half that much meat on it.

Coincidentally, that’s my favorite pick-up line.

OK, I went ahead and stopped by a Subway for lunch today to try out the Chicken Marinara. I’m not sure if it was just my subway, but they did not have breaded chicken….. it was just a normal grilled chicken patty (I think I sort of saw something that looked like it might be a few crumbs on top, but definitely not a breaded piece of chicken like the Chicken Parmesan they used to have).

They were pretty skimpy on the cheese too, but the overall sandwich was decent. Not the Chicken Parm replacement I was hoping for though.

Yeah, at first I thought I saw breading on the Chicken Marinara picture, but upon closer inspection, it seems to be the non-diced grilled breast. Not as tasty, to be sure, but healthier by far. Might be a better substitute for the meatball than my usual Club…

  9. Francois, hahaha. Good one.

I have been going to Subway lately; all of their sandwiches taste the same to me, but have a great flavor.

    Italian Herbs and Cheese
    Turkey/Ham/Roast Beef/Italian BMT
    Lettuce, Red Onions, Banana Peppers
    Most Importantly: SPICY MUSTARD

    Pretty nice tasting sandwich!

the picture is VERY ambiguous as to weather the chicken is breaded or not.. at my location it was grilled

  11. I love going with people to subway cause they think it’s healthy and they get the meatball marinara…footlong…and chips…and a coke.

does anybody know how much fat the chicken marinara has in it because it doesnt say on the website…i had one today with the grilled chicken and it was pretty good.

So, why are all of Subways sandwiches boring and so expected?
How about a chicken pesto sub or a chicken sun-dried tomato sub?
