First Impressions: New! Chewy Granola Trail Mix Cookies from Pepperidge Farm

I’m a big fan of the Distinctive Cookie Collection by Pepperidge Farm.  Strolling through the grocery aisle today, I came across a new soft cookie.  The people at Pepperidge Farm can do it so much better than I can, so here’s what the back of the bag says:

Cookie meets Granola.  Granola inspires Cookie.  Together they live deliciously ever after… and you will too.  Pepperidge Farm Chewy Granola cookies begin with a flavorful blend of smooth rolled oats, whole grains and golden steel cut oats – the heartiest of the hearthy and trail-ready (even if you’re not quite trekking though wilderness…).  Our Trail Mix recipe is loaded with raisins, dark chocolate and almonds – pleasantly lumpy, irresistibly bumpy and baked full of wholesome satisfaction in every chewy bite.

I’ve got to say.  Well worth the purchase.  Regularly priced at $3.59 for a 8.6oz bag of 8 cookies.  I bought mine on sale for 2 for $4.  140 calories and 6 grams of fat per cookie.  I must admit, the words of Pepperidge Farm are pretty spot on.  Don’t let the “Made with Whole Grain” scare you.  This is one delicious cookie.  Might be a decent alternative to snacking on a hike.  I don’t think it will replace what a real granola bar will give you, but it’s far tastier than any granola bar I’ve ever had.  I really liked the dark chocolate and almond combination.  The chewy texture of the cookie mixed in with the addition of raisins put this cookie to another level.  Very impressive.

  1. Dang, I bet I’d love this!!! Oatmeal is one of my favorite things…and steel cut! Amazing.

“Don’t let the ‘Made with Whole Grain’ scare you.” Scare me? that makes it even better. I love me some whole grain.

Yeah whole grain products don’t scare me either but I’m sure some people fear it and expect the taste to be bad. I must say though, Papa John’s has or had a whole wheat or whole grain…(not sure exactly)…pizza crust and I tried it once. It was terrible. Hopefully time perfects the recipe. These Granola Cookies were really good and I’ll get them again.

***Oh by the way…other tastes in the new Granola Cookie lineup from Pepperidge Farm…Fruit and Nut, Dark Chocolate Almond and Triple Nut.

  3. @Ryan we make a whole wheat pizza crust here that is exceptional. You’ve got to come try my pie!

Ohhh, that Dark Chocolate Almond is calling my name.

  4. I wish I ate cookies when I went hiking.

    Love, Gimmeyummy

Funny you should mention the Papa Johns crust. I work for a PJ and they had to get rid of the crusts because nobody was buying them. I’ve always struggled making pizzas at home with wheat flour…dried out in the oven in no time at all…must be something about the gluton? Any suggestions Bear?

Oh yea, and these cookies remind me of Quaker Breakfast cookies, except that they are made by a company which actually makes cookies full time. I’ll be on the lookout.

By the way…I do like PJ’s. The Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Pizza and the BBQ Chicken and Bacon are really good. There was just something “off” about the whole wheat crusts that gave the entire pizza a distinctive flavor.
