First Impressions: Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes from Domino’s

So I just had my first taste of the new Domino’s Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes.  I’ve got to say, I came away enjoying it more than I had expected to.  I’d describe it as crusty on the outside, soft on the inside with a melty chocolate center.  It was very brownie-like which was a big plus.  Just like a brownie…requires a nice cold glass of milk to go with it.  I’ve never been a big dessert-from-Domino’s guy as most of my experiences came off with a similar cardboard-y taste.  This was different and I’d get it again.  Price:  $3.99 for an order of 2 (FREE Chocolate Lava Crunch Cake when purchasing an order of Domino’s BreadBowl Pasta at menu price until September 13)

That looks good and really rich. I’ve had the lava cake at Glory Days but the cake part was way too moist. This looks like it holds together pretty well.

  2. Jess says:

I’d be up to seeing a full review of this…will you be writing one?

  3. Adam Bomb says:

Looks like a deformed hockey puck with powdered sugar on it. Then again, food doesn’t have to look good to taste good!

  4. Yum Yucky says:

A cheap thrill has got to be bigger that that. I’d need more. (that’s my greedy side talking)

  5. MMMM Chocolate! So what exactly is the “Crunch” in these cakes?
I love making molten cakes they are so fun!

  6. Ryan says:

    @ Jess … Not sure, I’m buried.

    @ Yum Yucky … Agreed… $3.99 for 2 is kinda steep.

@ Erin … The crunch is the outer shell.

  7. Adam Bomb says:

@Erin: The crunch is due to Domino’s letting the cakes sit out in the open air for 12 hours before serving them. 😉

That old-school packaging has really caught my attention! If Pizza Hut had created the thing, they would’ve plastered a logo for it front and center, then dedicated a side of the box to telling you all the naughty things the flavor will do to you without your permission as a direct result of your decision to Gather ‘Round the Good Stuff™.

I’ll try them out sometime, is what I’m getting at, here.

LOL@ “all the naughty things the flavor will do to you without your permission….” Good stuff.

  10. Raiders757 says:

How big are these things? They look kind of small.

  11. Jon says:

They’re pretty small. Probably worth a dollar each, but they’re pretty good. Almost like an undercooked brownie inside a “crunchy” brownie shell.

  12. Dominoes beats all the other fast food stores hands down. The service is much more personal and friendly and I don’t think there is anything on their menu that has been skimped on or over looked.

  13. Darren says:

It came free with my order. I never eat dessert items from pizza places (not usually my thing). These things are so freaking good! Amazingly good.

  14. Brittany says:

haha!! I just ordered the Chicken Carbonara Breadbowl (which is absolutely delicious by the way)and got one of these for free. I’m not a bif chocolate fan…but it was actually really great…crunchy, chewy, melty, yummy!! haha….everything ended it y…no? eh.

  15. Mollie says:

My boyfriend and I tried these on a whim and absolutely love them! We keep them in the freezer to heat up in the oven when we get a craving. If you love chocolate they are the way to go. Still need to try them ala mode!

  16. Chocolate says:

Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes are heaven on earth.

  17. bill says:

lol! after reading these comments, i must try these now.

  18. Zendora says:

If you haven’t tried these yet, DO IT. They don’t look like much, but oh my God, they’re absolutely divine. I didn’t think they’d do the job (I had a *serious* chocolate craving), but after ONE I was overwhelmed with deliciousness and opted to save the second. Huge plus here…they keep very well in the fridge and re-heat beautifully according to the directions on the box.

  19. Michael says:

These things are amazing after being in the fridge for a couple hours. it’s like a cold chewy brownie with chocolate sauce inside. YUM!

  20. Brandon Johnson says:

    These are fucking bum.

  21. {METH}DestrOi says:

Best thing in the world!! lava cakes rule everything around me, need seconds cuz there yummy, gotta gotta eat yallllllllll

  22. Shannon says:

After reading all the positive comments, I just had to try these. It is sad to know that my taste apparently differs from the majority of people here who commented. They are gross. They taste like chocolate in the same way that an Oreo cookie tastes like chocolate in a burnt kind of way. The whole thing reeks of being cheap and highly processed. I will never eat these again.

  23. I says:

Hmmm go buy theese with my money or waste my time on halo 4 savings…. let’s check the comments 99% positive and 1% negative i’ll try em.
