Fast Food Review: New! Berry Almond Chicken Salad from Wendy’s

June 13, 2011 By: Adam Category: Reviews, Salads

Condensation... Not a good first sign.

There are two types of people in the world: those who don’t really like salads, and those who love them. Despite what you may think you know about my eating habits from the reviews I’ve done here on GrubGrade, I am in the latter category. I am so much in the latter category, in fact, that I acquired the nickname of “that dude with the big salad” during my time in the college dining halls. Whether it be watermelon and tomatoes over spring green with red onion and feta, or beets and orange segments with a sprinkle of lime juice, my dining hall salad creations knew no bounds.

The promo picks looked good. Can you count the amount of berries?

All that being said, I can’t remember the last time I actually ordered a salad at a fast food restaurant. It’s just one of those things, you know? I mean, OK, I can trust an industrial fryer when it comes to cooking mechanically separated chicken with tons of additives; but a fresh, light, and composed assortment of seasonal vegetables? Haha, good luck with that. (more…)

Food News: Wendy’s Rolls Out Berry Almond Chicken Salad and Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap

May 24, 2011 By: Adam Category: Food News

First reported here on GrubGrade last year, Wendy’s has officially taken its popular Berry Almond Chicken Salad outside of the test markets, and will start selling it nationally. The salad features a collection of berries, almonds, chicken and cheese, as well as a whopping 11 (!) types of salad greens. The full salad, not included dressing, clocks in at just 450 calories and 16 grams of fat. Commenters have been chiming in for weeks about the salad, so if you’re one to try new things out, why not do it with this handy $1 off coupon?

The summer salad isn’t the only new menu addition to Wendy’s, with the chain also launching a Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap. The 430 calorie, 25 grams of fat wrap features crispy chicken, shaved Asiago cheese, and Caesar dressing in a flour tortilla, and becomes the latest part of Wendy’s Value Menu.

A new twist on a classic taste. Fresh romaine and iceberg lettuce, natural shaved Asiago cheese, all-natural Caesar dressing and half a crispy chicken fillet, wrapped inside a soft flour tortilla for mouthwatering Caesar flavor in every delicious bite.

And finally, you’re going to need something to wash all that down with, right? Instead of a frosty, why not try the new Wild Berry Tea.

All Natural Puree of real raspberries, blackberries and strawberries grown in the USA. Made with real sugar and no artificial colors or flavors, give yourself a refreshing treat that is made fresh when you order.

A small tea is just 70 calories and has no fat.

Food News: Wendy’s Testing Berry Almond Chicken Salad

Wendy’s Berry Almond Chicken Salad

Fresh off the national release of four new summer salads (read our review here), Wendy’s has begun testing a Berry Almond Chicken Salad in both the Salt Lake City, UT and Richmond, VA markets. Have a gander:

It all starts with sweet fresh strawberries and delicious plump blueberries. Then we add roasted almonds, shaved Asiago cheese, 11 types of greens and tender grilled chicken. Topping it all off is our fat-free raspberry vinaigrette dressing with acai juice. It’s a wholesome mix that tastes great and is great for you too.

***UPDATE: Berry Almond Chicken Salad is now available nationwide along with a new Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap and Wild Berry Tea.

Now this is a salad I could get behind! It’s also comparatively healthier than Wendy’s other salads, coming in at 460 calories and 16 grams of fat (5.5 saturated) including dressing and almonds (the dressing packet alone is 100 calories and contains 22 grams of sugar). Apparently it’ll only be in select stores until the summer ends, but based on the response this might be a future addition to the Wendy’s menu. Has anyone tried the Berry Almond Chicken Salad? We want to know your thoughts!
