Best. Sandwich. Ever.

February 13, 2010 By: Adam Category: Featured Restaurant, Jealous, Sandwiches

Ok, an honest call to all you GrubGrade readers out there. August might be the official “National Sandwich Month,” but I want to know what’s the best sandwich you ever had. Yea, as in like EVER. Why do I ask?  Because I think I just finished eating the best sandwich I ever had. Have a gander:

I give you the Sugar Spiced Pork Baguette from Elements Restaurant in Logan, Utah. After raving about their woodfired pizzas, I just knew I had to get back to this contemporary American eatery ASAP. I did, and this time made it around for lunch, where their exotic and innovative selection of sandwiches made picking just one almost an impossible task. I ended up splurging on the $8.00 sandwich above, which featured generous portions of perfectly brined and roasted pork loin, crispy tobacco onions, and a savory-sweet combo of barbecue sauce matched with a whole grain ‘creole’ mustard. All jammed inside a crispy french baguette. If this wasn’t perfection between two slices of bread, I don’t know what would be!

So I’m asking you GrubGrade readers…What is the best sandwich you’ve ever had? It can be as simple as your first Burger King Whopper, or something as complex and sophisticated as an Italian panini. I’m not here to judge, I’m just hungry!

GG Video: Ike’s Place

September 12, 2009 By: Ryan Category: GG Videos

Earlier this week I posted a Hitting the Road article about my experience with a little sandwich shop called Ike’s Place.  I raved about this San Francisco grub spot and how amazing my sandwich was.  I thought this short video about Ike’s Place would be a nice complement to that post.  Check it out…

Hitting the Road: I’m thinking… Ike’s Place in San Francisco

August 28, 2009 By: Ryan Category: Hitting the Road

Hey everyone…I’m heading to the Bay Area for the weekend and of course I’ll be grubbing with the best of them.  I read about this sandwich shop in San Fran called Ike’s Place last month and I’m looking forward to giving it a try.  Oh and if you caught Man vs Food on Wednesday night, Adam Richman went to Ike’s and sampled #188, Doomsday.  Well I’m not going for the Doomsday because I’m not bringing a family of 4 to help me finish it.  I’m thinking maybe #85 Super Mario or perhaps #90 Get Over It…ooh or maybe #132 Change.  Whatever I end up choosing, I’ll be sure to take pictures and give you my impressions here on GrubGrade.  I’ll be tweeting over the weekend on my grubbing progress if you’re interested in following along… Twitter.com/GrubGrade.

Check out this menu… What do you think?  What would you get?

Not familiar with Wawa?  Here’s a little history lesson courtesy of Wikipedia:

Wawa is a chain of convenience store/gas stations located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. It is often associated with the Philadelphia area and the Delaware Valley, but the stores are common throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Wawa sells over 195 million cups of coffee a year.  The Wawa deli counter was among the first convenience stores to implement self-serve computer touch-screen menus for food orders, in an attempt to improve accuracy. It can potentially be used as gateways to up-selling, as well. Wawa is headquartered in Wawa, Pennsylvania, a neighborhood that includes parts of Middletown Township and Chester Heights Borough in Delaware County. Wawa offers products found at most convenience chain marts such as chips, drinks, soda. Wawa also make their own branded water, which can be found at any Wawa. Key products include its variety of coffee and cappuccino flavors and sizes, and its made-to-order hoagies. Wawa also offers a brand of hot breakfast products, most famous of which is the “Sizzli”. Wawa sells a variety of brand-name cold beverages and offers similar alternatives such as the Red Bull alternative, “Mach W”.

Next week, Jamba Juice will be rolling out some food items in a business-changing venture for company known for their juices and smoothies.

Jamba Juice

“For many years Jamba Juice has been popularized as the nation’s leading smoothie chain,” James White, president of Jamba Inc., said in a news release. “And although we have introduced baked goods, snacks and most recently oatmeal to the menu, we felt that Jamba Juice was ready for a dramatic transformation.”

Among the new food offerings will be a selection of sandwiches, wraps, flatbreads and salads.  These new items are expected next week at select Jamba Juice locations in California and eventually be available nationwide.  Looks like your daily drink stop might be turning into your morning grub spot too.  Stay tuned to GrubGrade to check out an inside look at the Jamba Juice headquarters and test kitchen.  Don’t worry, Bear Silber is getting the skinny.
