Fast Food Review: Doublicious Chicken Sandwich from KFC

July 05, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Chicken, Reviews, Sandwiches

First off let me thank Adam for cranking out all the reviews in the last 30+ days.  My last review was on June 3rd and I am completely aware of my slacking.  Nothing has really grabbed my attention enough to want to head out to my local fast food drive-thru in the past month.  Finally KFC has come along to get me back into the swing of things.  This time around, it’s not a cringe-worthy bread-less sandwich like the Double Down.  It’s the nationwide debut of the Doublicious Chicken Sandwich from KFC… and I just finished devouring one of my very own.

People are calling the Doublicious, the “next Double Down”.  Just because “Double” is part of the description doesn’t mean you should link the two together.  The “Double” in the Double Down came from the two slices of cheese, two strips of bacon and the two chicken filets.  The Doublicious doesn’t have too much “double” going around and rundown goes like this… Original Recipe fillet, Monterey Jack cheese, bacon and Colonel’s Sauce in a Hawaiian bun. Fast Food Review: Doublicious Grilled Chicken Sandwich from KFC

July 05, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Chicken, Reviews, Sandwiches

I didn’t feel like combining both the Original Recipe and Grilled versions of the Doublicious from KFC in one review so here’s a little mini review on the grilled.  If you want the full 800+ word of the Original, click here.  The grilled version of the Doublicious has no bacon and no funky mayo-ey Colonel’s Sauce.  The grilled Doublicious has Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce and honey mustard barbecue sauce on a Hawaiian roll.

The Verdict: (more…)

Food News: KFC Doublicious Arrives July 5th

June 29, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

We’ve seen this coming for a while now.  I wasn’t a big fan of the Double Down from KFC, but I am looking forward to getting back to a real chicken sandwich… you know with actual bread.  KFC is unleashing a new chicken sandwich called the Doublicious and this time KFC is making an interesting choice of bread with using a Hawaiian bun.  I’m a big fan of Hawaiian bread and this slightly sweet roll should act as a nice balance to all the salty ingredients within. Original Recipe fillet, Monterey Jack cheese, bacon and Colonel’s Sauce in a Hawaiian bun.  A Grilled version will also be available and include Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce and honey mustard barbecue sauce.  Look out for it July 5th.

Food News: New KFC Extra Crispy Strips

May 24, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

While the KFC Double Down is getting all the attention, a new item has quietly hit the KFC menu board.  I wasn’t aware that this wasn’t available before, but apparently KFC Extra Crispy Strips are new.  Available with dipping sauces… Honey BBQ, Fiery Buffalo and Sweet ‘n Spicy.

Juicy, 100% all-white meat chicken breast, marinated and double-breaded in our special seasonings. They’re great for dipping in one of our flavorful sauces.

Food News: KFC Doublicious Sandwich Coming In July

May 20, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Seems like the KFC Double Down is a hit and I’m having trouble believing it.  So much of a success that it’s going to stick around beyond it’s original May 23rd end date.  I didn’t love the Double Down, but after nearly 10 million sandwiches sold, KFC has decided to have it available through the summer.   Since I wasn’t crazy about the Double Down, I’m ready for a change.  I’m looking forward to the Doublicious.  Back in February I wrote:

Spotted in Nebraska, the KFC Doublicious Chicken Sandwich.  Details are a bit scarce but the Doublicious includes cheese, bacon some zesty sauce and available in Original Recipe or Grilled chicken. The best part seems to be that it’s served on a sweet Hawaiian bun.  I’m a big fan of Hawaiian bread.  The Doublicious combo meal was around the $5.00 area in Nebraska.

Well thanks to an inside tip from one of our readers, I now know that the Doublicious is going nationwide on July 5th.  And why is it called Doublicious?  Apparently there are 2 versions of it.  We’ll keep you posted.

Fast Food Review: Double Down Sandwich from KFC

April 12, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Chicken, Reviews, Sandwiches

Once considered to be a hoax menu item, the Double Down from KFC is in fact real.  Featuring chicken where bread usually resides, the Double Down is unique and unusual…but is it tasty?  The Colonel’s original take on the chicken sandwich is a bit gimmicky yet contains ingredients that you should be used to by now.  The day has arrived for the nationwide release of the infamous Double Down Sandwich from KFC.

The Double Down features two boneless white meat chicken filets (Original Recipe® or Grilled), two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel’s Sauce. So really, what’s so crazy about that?  It’s just like any other sandwich minus the bread. (more…)

Food News: New Boneless Filet From KFC

March 04, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

KFC has a new product simply called the “Boneless Filet”.  Seems like a reasonable item for grubbing on the go as it comes in a “fry-like” sleeve.  KFC is claiming “Our Biggest, Meatiest, Juiciest Piece of Boneless Chicken Ever!”  There is a new combo box also which is dubbed the “Boneless Filet Box” and it’s $5.00.

The KFC Doublicious Chicken Sandwich?

February 05, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Spotted in Nebraska, the KFC Doublicious Chicken Sandwich.  Details are a bit scarce but the Doublicious includes cheese, bacon some zesty sauce and available in Original Recipe or Grilled chicken. The best part seems to be that it’s served on a sweet Hawaiian bun.  I’m a big fan of Hawaiian bread.  The Doublicious combo meal was around the $5.00 area in Nebraska.  Here’s hoping for a nationwide release at some point.  Thanks to GrubGrade reader Chris Heidtbrink for the heads up.
