Fast Food Review: Dunkin Donuts Chocolate Glazed Cake Donut

August 10, 2010 By: Adam Category: Breakfast, Reviews

Remember back in June when I admitted my fear of ordering any donut at Dunkin Donuts other than my all-time favorite Bavarian Kreme? Well, it has taken me the better part of two months, but I finally manned up at dove off the deep end the other morning. The pool was chocolaty and cheap, and there was nothing artisan about it. Long story short, I’d say the results were mixed.

Dear Donut: Why do you look like a bagel?

In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that when I’m in a rush and on the road I’m not looking for a healthy or well balanced breakfast. (more…)

Fast Food Review: Egg White Flatbreads from Dunkin’ Donuts

July 09, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Breakfast, Reviews, Sandwiches

As far as fast food breakfast sandwiches go, it’s hard to find anything not soaked in grease.  Egg, cheese, bacon and sausage are the culprits. Let’s name a few baddies… How about a Sausage, Egg and Cheese Bagel Breakfast Sandwich from McDonalds? The Double Croissan’wich with Sausage and Bacon from Burger King?  I don’t know about you, but I’m not quite ready to ingest an entire days worth of calories, fat and sodium first thing in the morning.  Dunkin’ Donuts introduced their Egg White Flatbread Sandwiches a couple years back and have gone through a bit of a makeover.  Does a new look equal a new taste?  Let’s review.

Dunkin’ Donuts Egg White Flatbreads are described like this:

Egg White Flatbread Sandwiches have a new, rounder look.  It’s the oven-toasted taste you love, with a new round shape that packs even more egg and cheese into every bite.  With the same multi-grain flatbread and egg white omelets featuring turkey sausage or veggies, each DDSMART sandwich is still a great way to start the day.

OK, now for my words… As mentioned above, the Egg White flatbreads come in two choices, Veggie and Turkey Sausage. The cost… $2.99 each.  The original version was $2.99 and I still believe they are probably a dollar too much. (more…)

Food News: Dunkin’ Donuts Egg White Flatbreads New Look

July 07, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Before I get into the flatbreads, just let me say that Dunkin’ Donuts has an excellent breakfast value menu.  I’m not sure how it is in your neck of the woods, but in my town, it’s great (and available all day).  OK now on to the breakfast flatbreads… I know there are haters, but I actually kinda like the Dunkin’ Donuts Egg White Flatbreads.  My biggest complaint was always the egg white to flatbread ratio.  The folded flatbread was always too dry and dominated the usually lacking egg.  Looks like there’s been a fix to the too-much-flatbread issue.  How new is this?  How late to the party am I?  It’s new to me so maybe it’s new to you.  A new round shape, take a look:

Some details for you:

  • Veggie Egg White Flatbread – Enjoy the fluffy egg whites, peppers, onions, mushrooms and melted reduced–fat cheddar cheese served on a delicious multigrain flatbread. 330 calories, 12g of fat
  • Turkey Sausage Egg White Flatbread – Treat your taste buds to fluffy egg whites, turkey sausage, spinach and melted reduced–fat cheddar cheese on a delicious multigrain flatbread. 290 calories, 8g of fat

I’m going to give this new flatbread a try in the morning.  Here’s a look at the original if you’re unfamiliar:

Food News: Free Doughnut This Friday, June 4th at Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme

May 30, 2010 By: Adam Category: Food News

You’ve by no doubt heard that this Friday (June 4th for those of you who don’t belive in calenders) marks one of the great celebrations in our country’s culinary history. That’s right, I’m talking National Donut Day. And what better way to say “God Bless America” then with a free donut? Both Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme are offering deals for the day, with Dunkin’ offering a free donut to any customer who also purchases a beverage. Not a coffee drinker? Krispy Kreme might be your destination, since all retail locations will be offering a free donut to anyone who comes into the store on Friday.

Personally, I’m headed to Dunkin’. Kirpsy Kreme doesn’t have too many locations in my area, and I make a point to stop by Dunkin’ for coffee and a donut at least once a week as it is. Problem is, I never seem to have the audacity to order anything else besides a Bavarian Kreme donut. My lifelong favorite, the Bavarian Kreme presents a real opportunity cost conundrum for me, so much so that I worry that any other donut purchase I make will fail to live up to the awesomeness of powdered sugar, sweet Bavarian Kreme, and fried dough. But since this week my donut will be on the house, I’m opening up to forum to you, GrubGraders. Which Dunkin Donut should I purchase? Which is your favorite? Don’t be shy, I need ideas here people!

Food News: Dunkin’ Donuts Waffle Breakfast Sandwich Is Back

March 01, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

The breakfast sandwich that uses waffles as bread has made a return at Dunkin’ Donuts.  Seems like customer demand has brought the Waffle Breakfast Sandwich back for a limited time so if you missed out the first time around, you’ve got another chance.  Priced at around $2.99.  Interested in an in-depth review…click here.

Warm, toasty and delicious.  That’s right.  The Waffle Breakfast Sandwich is back!  Enjoy an 0ven-toasted waffle, now with delicious sausage, a hint of maple, fluffy scrambled egg and a slice of American cheese.  It’s the tasty way to keep you running all day long.  But hurry, it won’t be around forever.

Food News: Dunkin’ Donuts Egg Whites Option Now Available

January 07, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Dunkin’ Donuts has something called the DD Smart Menu.  Basically it’s a menu consisting of “better for you” options than the alternative Bacon, Egg and Cheese fare.  If you are craving a breakfast sandwich with egg, but want to limit the bad stuff, the egg white option is now available. Calories, fat and cholesterol intake can be dramatically cut with the egg white choice.  Good to see Dunkin’ giving the consumer this option.  Will you be making the switch?

Food News: Holiday Flavors at Dunkin Donuts

November 25, 2009 By: Ryan Category: Food News

The holiday season is upon us and today Dunkin Donuts has unveiled some new treats for the season.  The Chocolate Mint Donut and Peppermint Mocha Latte ($1.99 for a small).  I’m not so sure about all this peppermint.  Chick-fil-A with their Peppermint Chocolate Chip Milkshake and Dairy Queen with their Candy Cane Chill Blizzard.  How do you feel about a donut topped with peppermint candy?  I might just stick with a Gingerbread Latte from Starbucks and be done with it. :)

Food News: New Biscuit Sandwiches at Dunkin’ Donuts

September 01, 2009 By: Ryan Category: Food News

There’s something new for breakfast over at Dunkin’.  Dunkin’ Donuts is introducing new Biscuit Sandwiches.  Including scrambled egg, savory sausage and cheese on their new flaky biscuit  (Note: Bacon or Ham also available).  Kind of strange that Dunkin’ now goes the super traditional route after the Waffle Breakfast Sandwich.  It seems like every restaurant that serves breakfast has some sort of biscuit sandwich.  The Sausage, Egg and Cheese on a Biscuit shown below will cost you 600 calories and 40 grams of fat. Anyone know the price?  I can’t seem to find it anywhere and the Dunkin people just told me prices vary.  No price range…thanks!
