Food News: Dairy Queen Blizzard of the Month for September 2010, Brownie Batter Blizzard

September 01, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Blizzard of the Month for September 2010 is the Brownie Batter Blizzard (or B3).  This was actually the Blizzard of the Month in June 2009 too.  How about letting me pick the next Blizzard of the Month DQ?  I’m thinking we should just satisfy all the fans and break out the Cotton Candy Blizzard.

It’s officially August and just to remind you, the Dairy Queen Blizzard of the Month for August 2009 is the Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookie Blizzard.  This Blizzard is a mix of Thin Mint cookie pieces, soft serve ice cream and a Crème de Menthe topping.  Prices vary by location but you’re looking at around $2.85 for a small, $3.35 for a medium and $3.85 for the large.  *Nutrition-wise…a small will run you 540 calories, 18 grams of fat and 67 grams of sugar.  A large will cost you around 1080 calories, 38 grams of fat and 126 grams of sugar.

Food News: Dairy Queen Blizzard of the Month for July is the Girl Scout Tagalongs Peanut Butter Patties Blizzard

June 27, 2009 By: James Category: Food News

Man, 2009 is flying by.  It’s almost July which means the Dairy Queen’s 7th blizzard of the month will soon make its debut.  For the month of July, “DQ” is releasing a brand new blizzard, the Girl Scouts Tagalongs Peanut Butter Patties Blizzard.  This has to be some type of record for the longest name of a dessert.  The new blizzard features the classic Tagalong cookie…a crispy cookie layered with peanut butter and covered in chocolate.  The cookies are broken into bite size pieces and mixed with creamy vanilla soft serve.

Now this blizzard is more up my alley.  The Midnight Truffle, Raspberry Truffle and Brownie Batter blizzards all seemed like overkill to me.   This one is simple and the chocolate and peanut butter combo is tough to beat.

Food News: Dairy Queen Blizzard of the Month for June is the Brownie Batter Blizzard

May 30, 2009 By: James Category: Food News

Monday is the 1st of June, which means the debut of another Dairy Queen Blizzard of the Month.  May’s blizzard was the Raspberry Truffle Blizzard.  The Raspberry Truffle Blizzard was vanilla soft serve, rich chocolate truffles and a sweet raspberry topping.  This month DQ has done away with the vanilla and raspberry flavors and gone straight chocolate with the Brownie Batter Blizzard.  June’s blizzard consists of chocolate soft serve, scoops of brownie batter and moist chunks of brownie.

I can tell already that the chocolate in this dessert is going to be overwhelming, similar to the Midnight Truffle Blizzard.  In my opinion, they should have combined vanilla soft serve with the brownie pieces and batter, but who knows.  I only have to wait a couple more days to find out for sure.  First introduced in 2004, the Brownie Batter Blizzard is one of the most successful of all flavors debuting as a Blizzard of the Month so if you’ve had it before, feel free to comment.

First Impressions: The Raspberry Truffle Blizzard from Dairy Queen

May 01, 2009 By: Heather Category: First Impressions

I love the rasberry and chocolate combination so I couldn’t resist trying Dairy Queen’s Blizzard of the Month for May,  The Raspberry Truffle Blizzard.  I was a little disappointed when I pulled up to the drive-thru and it wasn’t listed on the menu.  Not to worry though, I asked if they had it and they asked what size I wanted.

0101I was actually surprised with this blizzard.  As you can see from the pic above, it was overflowing with ice cream.  The blizzard is made with vanilla ice cream, raspberry topping  and chocolate truffles.  You may like this blizzard even if you are not a big fan of raspberry.  It didn’t have a strong raspberry flavor and the  specs of raspberries in the ice cream were so small you hardly knew they were there.  There were just enough chocolate truffles in it where you got a few in every bite.  The blizzard was not overly rich as was Aprils Blizzard of the Month, “The Midnight Truffle Blizzard”.   At first I thought that maybe it could use a little more raspberry flavoring, but overall it was a great combination.   For some reason, this blizzard was a bit more “melty” than what I’m used to with DQ’s blizzards.  Overall though, it’s all about taste and my experience was a perfect mixture of chocolate and raspberry.

Very "melty"

The price is $3.29 for a small, $3.49 for a medium and $3.99 for a large.

Food News: Dairy Queen Blizzard of the Month for May is The Raspberry Truffle Blizzard

April 28, 2009 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Yeah, I know it’s a few days early but Friday is the 1st of May and a new month means a new DQ Blizzard of the Month.  The Blizzard of the Month for April is/was the Midnight Truffle Blizzard.  It was chock full of rich chocolaty truffles in DQ vanilla soft serve.  I gave my impressions and I was pretty overwhelmed by the chocolate.  The new Raspberry Truffle Blizzard seems to be pretty much the same thing, but with the addition of a sweet raspberry topping blended with the vanilla soft serve ice cream.  The tried and true chocolate truffles will be present and will most likely dominate the taste, but I’ll have to wait until Friday to know for sure.

Food News: Midnight Truffle Blizzard from Dairy Queen

April 01, 2009 By: James Category: Food News

Today is the beginning of a new month and that means it’s time for a new Dairy Queen Blizzard.  The newest edition of Dairy Queen’s Blizzard of the Month has been unveiled.  Last month “DQ” released the Mint Oreo Blizzard,  April’s treat is the Midnight Truffle Blizzard.  This latest “blizzard of the month” sounds like a chocolate lovers dream.   It combines rich chocolate truffles and chunks of cocoa fudge with silky vanilla soft serve ice cream.  You cannot go wrong with the chocolate and vanilla combination.

I usually like to keep my ice cream simple, plain chocolate or vanilla with some crushed oreos, but there are some who love really rich, decadent desserts.  If you are one of those people this sounds like the blizzard for you.
