Food News: Burger King New and Improved Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich

June 23, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

The BK Tendergrill Chicken Sandwich has received a slight makeover by switching up the sesame seed bun for ciabatta.  Price: $3.99.  Here’s our review of the old version.

You want chicken? You got it. You want a juicy grilled chicken filet on ciabatta bread, topped with crisp lettuce and tomato? You got that, too. It’s called the TENDERGRILL® Chicken Sandwich.

As part of BKC’s HAVE IT YOUR WAY(R) brand promise, the new ciabatta bun offers a menu option for guests that can help them meet individual diet and lifestyle preferences. BKC’s new ciabatta bun is made with whole wheat flour, providing eight grams of whole grains, as well as fewer calories, less fat and sodium.

The TENDERGRILL(R) Chicken Sandwich has 470 calories and is the latest addition to the more than 350 BURGER KING(R) meal combinations that provide 650 calories or less — approximately one-third of a daily 2,000 calorie diet.

Food News: Burger King Introduces BK Fire-Grilled Ribs

May 18, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

I’ll put this on the list of really bad ideas.  Burger King is going nationwide with their BK Fire-Grilled Ribs.  Prices and participation may vary but $7.99 for a 6 piece seems to be the going rate.  My local BK has them for $7.99.  Would you seek out ribs at Burger King? I don’t have much more info such as nutrition facts because Burger King has a website that doesn’t keep up with the rest of the world.

Fast Food Review: Whiplash Whopper from Burger King

April 26, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Burgers, Reviews

After hundreds of reviews on fast food products, it’s a little shocking that the Burger King Whopper has never been featured in a review.  A new version of the Whopper burger on the market is enough to get me to shell out some money for a purchase.  A Whopper purchase is rare for me, but I was eager to give the new Whiplash Whopper a taste.  Maybe the Iron Man 2 tie-in has got me hooked or the fact that this burger has crispy red peppers…whatever the case, I bought the burger and here are my impressions.

The Whiplash Whopper features your standard Whopper beef patty and it’s topped with lettuce, tomato, a spicy dressing mayonnaise, crispy fried onions red peppers and Pepper jack cheese on a sesame seed bun. A familiar issue for me with Burger King was apparent from the first bite. (more…)

Food News: The Burger King Buck Double

April 22, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

Take a slice of cheese from the Burger King Double Cheeseburger and what do you get?  The Buck Double.

The new Buck Double sandwich, featuring two flame-broiled burger patties, a slice of American cheese, crunchy pickles, ketchup and mustard on a sesame seed bun – all for just a “BUCK.” The sandwich boasts more beef than McDonald’s® McDouble and is now available on the BK® Value Menu.

Food News: Iron Man 2 and Burger King Team Up for the Whiplash Whopper

April 21, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

The blockbuster movie season is closing in and Iron Man 2 looks to be kicking it off May 7th.  I get geeked up for comic book movies and almost as equally geeked up for cheesy promotions.  I’m not a big fan of product placement in movies so let’s hope this time around I don’t see Tony Stark grubbing on Burger King in the actual movie.  Outside of the movie, there will be the debut of a new Burger King Whopper called the Whiplash Whopper.  Check out our FULL REVIEW.

Whiplash is the Mickey Rourke character pegged as the villain in the movie.  Burger Business is reporting the new Whiplash Whopper will be topped with “crispy onions and cheese”…also looks like some sort of special sauce.  Little is known on the exact ingredients, but I’ll report as soon as more is known…and expect a review too.  UPDATE: READ FULL REVIEW

Alongside the new BK Breakfast Muffin, Burger King is introducing another morning option in the form of a Breakfast Bowl.

Adam Does Poetry: Ode to the Burger King Hamburger

March 23, 2010 By: Adam Category: Observations

Inspired by recent events, I bring you my latest feat of literary awesomeness. I need not say more…

Ode to the Hamburger

The Steakhouse XT gets all the pub,

The Double Cheeseburger; the restaurant wire’s ear.

While the Double Whopper is quickly loved

By all those fatties both far and near.

(Even the freaking Whopper Jr.

gets its own commercial)

But in Salt Lake International

where a Squatters burger is 10 bucks and damn Sbarro wants three fifty for a mediocre oil-drenched slice and

there is no way my thrifty college butt is paying for a prepackaged “gourmet Italian”panini-type number;

I see again the glorious mark of one Mr. George Washington plus

nine honorable Mr. Abe Lincoln’s (two of which I found on the floor),

beckoning me onward to 1.8 ounces of slightly sweet and smokey 80/20

Wrapped in a tangy-sweet-sour blanket of industrial dills and old vinegar and

high fructose corn syrup. No cheese required. Mayo? Unnecessary.

Even the slightly soggy-squishy bun

is heaven sent.

Food News: BK XT Steakhouse Burgers from Burger King

February 23, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

All the fast food burger joints are competing for “premium” burger supremacy.  The BK XT Steakhouse Burger has been around for a while in my area, but I’m not sure about the trio you see below.  Wendy’s has their Bacon Deluxe (see our review), McDonald’s has a line of Angus Burgers (see our review) and “The King” cannot be left out of all the fun.  By the way, these BK patties are about 30% larger than the McD’s Angus Burgers.

  • Steakhouse XT Burger ($3.99): “The Steakhouse XT™ burger is all about an extra-thick, “how am I going to finish this,” seasoned beef patty topped with crisp lettuce, red-ripe tomatoes, onions, ketchup, and creamy mayo. When you order the Steakhouse XT™ burger bring your hunger. Maybe even a friend’s hunger.”
  • A.1. Steakhouse XT Burger ($4.49): “An extra-thick flame-broiled 7 oz.* beef patty topped with mayo, crispy onions, A.1.® Thick & Hearty Steak Sauce, plus American cheese, lettuce and red-ripe tomatoes. Phew. Can you handle the A.1.® Steakhouse XT™ burger?”
  • Smokey Cheddar Steakhouse XT Burger ($4.49): This burger is the “limited time only” of the bunch.  This burger features BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon as it’s main players.

Food News: BK Dollar Double Coming In April

February 19, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News

The $1.00 BK Dollar Double will follow the same path that the McDonald’s Double Cheeseburger took and remove one slice of cheese.  The BK Double Cheeseburger will move up to the $1.19 price mark.  Changes are supposed to happen on April 26. So is an extra slice of American cheese that much of a big deal?  Burger is also known as the “Buck Double“.
