Review: Spicy Chicken Nuggets from Burger King

We can all agree on the predictability of certain fast food products.  When there’s regular chicken nuggets, a spicy version will follow eventually (although still no spicy McNugget option in the States). With Burger King, their nuggets have gone through plenty of tweaked recipes over the years and their latest now has an option with some heat.  Introducing new Spicy Chicken Nuggets from Burger King.Burger King describes their new Spicy Chicken Nuggets like this:

Made with white meat, our bite-sized Spicy Chicken Nuggets are tender and juicy on the inside and crispy crunchy on the outside. Coated in a spicy homestyle breading, they are perfect for dipping in any of our delicious dipping sauces.

Let’s be honest, the main selling point of nuggets at Burger King is their on again, off again promotion of 10 nuggets for $1.49.  It’s a fast food value that is hard to pass up.  To promote new Spicy Chicken Nuggets, the 10 for $1.49 deal is currently active at participating BK locations.

The more I think about it, the more I feel the value isn’t all that stellar.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a good deal, but when you actually start to figure how much actual chicken product you’re getting out of those ten nuggets you might reconsider.  These aren’t hearty, meaty nuggets… I can eat an entire order and still feel pretty hungry.  They go down very fast.  A big part of each nugget is the breading.  The texture is softer than I’d like.  They’re like little disintegrating sponges with qualities that mix oily and crumbly .  The chew is so easy that it’s a little off-putting… very processed and artificial and every bit worth the super low price.  I found the heat level to be very tame.  Tame enough to possibly appeal to the masses a lot easier than something that only a small percentage of people can handle.  I don’t see paprika striking fear into many.  On a 1-10 fast food heat scale I’d put these at a 2 or 3.
There’s not much difference between these nuggets and the stuff you can get at the grocery store.  In fact, there’s likely far superior quality options at the grocery store. It doesn’t sound like I enjoyed BK’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets, but for what they are, they’re actually decent.  Look at these nuggets as a little snack or a la carte option to add to some other value menu items.   Cheap is definitely in BK’s wheelhouse and I didn’t expect anything more or less when it comes to the new Spicy Chicken Nuggets.

Pros: Makes for a good snack or add-on option. Cheap. A spicy option that isn't too spicy to alienate a mass consumer base.

Cons: Quality... you get what you pay for.

Exactly feel the same way. There was no crispety or crunchetty in these nuggets like McDonald’s. But for the price, it’s not too bad. I would rather get a double cheeseburger for like the same price or a cheap chicken sandwich. These are no spicy at all, just red food color. These are good for little kids to eat too on if you’re on a budget….but nothing beats a Mickey D’s Nuggets even though Chick-fil-a is better…but are they really a nugget?

I love these! Gotten them 3 times since they came out (don’t judge!) and today I got them and they were super fresh and so good! As long as they’re $1.49 I’m coming back. They fill me up pretty well, but a small order of fries rounds out the meal.

Not very tasty, but you can’t beat this value. Pair this with the $3.50 two cheeseburger deal and you have a filling meal for 5 dollars and change.

(Tip: remove the patty from one burger and put it on the other burger to create a double. then use the leftover bread/pickle to make a chicken sandwich with the nuggets)

absolutely love the spicy nuggets. just enough spice to get you at the back of the throat. crispy breading, fresh taste. goes well with the ranch dressing. @ 1.49, it’s the deal of the year. I am absolutely pissed that they have already taken it off the menu after only 4 weeks. That was the best item they had.
