Review: Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad from Wendy’s

When it comes to salad, I’m usually leery of what fast food chains are offering. There are a few exceptions (namely Chick-fil-A) but I’m mostly content to embrace the inherently horrible-for-you stereotype that burgers and fries have rightly earned. What can I say? I like burgers and fries. Wendy’s, however, has come up with a few really well composed salads of the years, so I was willing to give the new Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad a try.Power Mediterranean Salad WendysThe latest salad creation at Wendy’s is described like this:

Our new Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad features a delicious blend of ingredients like Feta, quinoa, fire-roasted vegetables, and sundried tomatoes. This is a salad experience people are going to love.

There’s no great way to type this (trust me, I’ve tried) but, right off the bat, this might have been the best smelling fast food salad I’ve ever bought. There was a savory, developed aroma to the container that reminded me of being in an Italian restaurant, and that aroma made me crave what was inside the container in a way I don’t usually crave salads.Power Mediterranean Salad WendysJust like the smell, the look of the salad fits the premium $6.99 price tag. Every element, from the plump grilled chicken breast to the hummus to the feta cheese, vegetable blend, and quinoa, was present, with a bed of assorted lettuces beneath. While the aesthetic appeal was there, the taste was even better. The roasted pepper blend and sundried tomatoes had an immediate impact and give each bite a deep, sweet, and slightly charred flavor that complimented the meaty white beans and chickpeas. There’s an earthy viscosity and roasted garlic flavor in the hummus, which helped to cover each tender chicken breast piece.Power Mediterranean Salad WendysBoth the quinoa and the feta provided a nice touch: The former, with a light crunch and toasted flavor, provided an extra element of textural contrast, while the mildly salty feta provided a true Mediterranean feel. Both ingredients were present throughout the salad, which, even before I applied the extra sweetness and tangy notes of the balsamic vinaigrette dressing, was plenty flavorful and balanced to eat on its own.Power Mediterranean Salad WendysI’m no stranger to feeling weighed down by fast food, but this salad made me feel full in a content, satiated way. All the ingredients were extremely fresh, right on down to the juicy and bright grape tomatoes and the crispy lettuce blend. I was impressed in every way imaginable.Power Mediterranean Salad WendysIt’s hard to find anything wrong with Wendy’s Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad. Not only is it one of the most nutritious options in fast food, but it really does taste great, not to mention is incredibly filling. Even the $6.99 price tag makes it a good value, particularly when compared against slightly higher prices for premium salads at Chick-fil-A ($7.49 in my area) and even fast casual chains like Smashburger ($7.99 with chicken in my area). While I seldom pass up on the 4 for $4 deal at Wendy’s, this salad is good enough to have me thinking twice in the future.

Pros: Excellent “Mediterranean” flavor in charred vegetable blend and feta cheese. Robust and deep sweetness. Plump, tender grilled chicken. No shortage of ingredients. Incredibly healthy. Good value compared to similar chain salads.

Cons: Hummus is a bit too viscous. Not currently priced in a vegetarian version.

I am willing to try this when it’s available. I will try it today or this week and give my review. I don’t care for quinoa, but I like Mediterranean flavors.

  2. JJJ says:

Another thing about Wendy’s is their salads are available in a half portion also.

Hrm.. I didn’t get any grape tomatoes in mine… Don’t know if I should complain or not. The salad was good… And if I paid $7.99 + tax, I want everything on it, but then again, I don’t want the store to get in trouble lol. Hrm…

If you still have the receipt, I would mention it in the survey. I once got some very hard tomato slices in my sandwiches & wrote to them. Got a gift card.

I love this salad. The dressing is over the top. I get the half sald with extra grilled chicken, and it only adds 60 additional calories. All I can say is yum!

  5. Ellen Keller says:

I love this salad. I get the half size and it is plenty filling.

Delish. Tried it for the first time today but I never got any dressing 😒. Now that I read this review I can ask for it next time.

I tried it today and was terribly disappointed. The orange sauce tasted bitter and wasnot edible. Ended up washing all the orange gunk off the chicken/lettuce. Sorry-at least at my Wendy’s this is a loser.

I like the orange gunk! But then again I like Campari too. I find this to be their best salad now. I know it’s not low in calories but it is relatively nutritious.

I love this salad. I don’t use the dressing, the hummus is enough for me. But today I added the dressing for the first time. Delicious!!!

I bought yesterday evening for my lunch today. I have approximately 1.5 oz of chicken, no onion, 1 cherry tomato and about 2 cups of iceberg lettuce sitting in about 3/4 cup of water at the bottom of the bowl. I couldn’t find the quinoa and I guess our Wendy’s doesn’t know the difference between chick peas and white beans. For $8 bucks, I expect a lot better. PS: No napkin or fork provided with my order.

I just got one today, And OH EM GEE, it’s shaving! My Wendy’s LOADED it with feta, chickpeas, white beans, sun-dried tomatoes and TONS of chicken! 5 cherry tomatoes! I wish it had a bit more humid but it’s ok. I used some lemon and salt (Wendy’s gives fresh sliced lemon on the side of requested) no dressing and I’m blown away. My new lunch time favorite!!!💯💯❤

Really good salad. I also love the Pecan Chicken salad. I always fill out the survey info on the back of the receipt to get $2.00 off my next salad.

I LOVE this salad. I do not eat fast food often, maybe once a month, and thankfully we have a Wendy’s where I can get this salad. It’s my go-to salad if I have to grab one from somewhere. It’s everything you said — delicious, nutritious, and filling. The flavors work together so well that I have even eaten it without dressing before.
