Before tasting all three Mini Desserts from Jack in the Box, including the Mini Cookies, Mini Churros, and Brownie Bites, I had no preconceived notion of Jack’s dessert prowess. My experience at the San Diego-based chain has been limited to tasting burgers and sandwiches, with varying levels of success. But cookies, brownies, and churros are tough to completely bungle, and with each item priced within pocket change territory (just $1 each), I set my satisfaction bar low enough for a dachshund puppy to surpass.Mini Desserts Jack BoxIt was not low enough. The mini cookies and mini churros didn’t earn a passing grade on taste, and the brownie only barely squeaked by. Let me take you through each dessert, one by one.First up, the Mini Cookies. They look appealing, like a rainbow Chips Ahoy! and in fact, that might be exactly what they are. A few chips were melted on top and the cookies were warm, but they had the texture and taste of a store-bought cookie that has been recently warmed up, not freshly baked. In desperate times, they’re fine, but the cookies at Albertson’s (which I think are about the same price for the equivalent size) are at least three times as good.Jack Box Mini CookiesThe Mini Churros were the worst of the bunch. The cinnamon and sugar flecked husk was dry, and inside, there was gob of cool and slimy batter. Take a bite, and it’ll squish out onto your tongue. Not good, even at 2 a.m. (Del Taco does a much better churro for the same price).Mini Churros Jack BoxI saved the Brownie Bites for last, and pinned all hope of salvation on them. Turns out that was too tall of an order for a handful of chocolate dessert matter. They were decent, but I’d call them “sticky chocolate cake squares” before I’d call them brownies, since they weren’t at all fudgy. Maybe in sundae form, with some hot fudge sauce, they’d be better, but Jack doesn’t do ice cream.Mini Brownies Jack Box

Pros: All of the desserts are just $1 each, and with locations being open 24 hours a day, they're easily accessible when other snack options are limited.

Cons: Like a lot of things that are cheap and easy to come by, none of the desserts are particularly satisfying. Invest a little more time and money and you can have something much tastier.

I love the churro bites myself, the inside is this gooey hot cinnamon sugar filling which is a fun thing that sets them apart from other Churros. It may not be the best, but it is fun

    • NicDaMone says:

Yes, every time I’ve had them, they have been very good. I like the goo, and they have always been very moist on the outside. Maybe these ones had been out for awhile. I’ve even reheated mine in the microwave the next day and they were still good!

    • Rebeka says:

OH, me too! I’m glad I am not the only one who truly likes the churros :))

    • Erik says:

The churros are excellent, as long as you’re not expecting actual churros.
Think of this as a new dessert pastry.

I feel these are all great values for $1.
The cookies are the worst of the 3, and they’re not bad.

To the reviewer: What fast food alternatives would you recommend over these? Other than the Del Taco Churro, and the JITB ones aren’t actually churros :-)

  2. Old Fogey Paul says:

  3. J says:

  4. Dormroomnights says:

the churros disappointed me at first try, i couldn’t wait to try them, infact i had to sneak myself one on my way home. ugh nasty greasy gooey hot mess! i was going to throw them, out after i finished my meal, then decided to give them one more try. sooo much better cold :) just sayin. idk if ill buy them again, but i do wanna try the cookies and brownies now :)

oh a good fast food churro is taco bells churro mmmm :) delish! except when they dont let them fry long enough and the center is still kinda frozen yuck!

  6. Burgermeistress says:

Wow, I back up all the commentors on the Churros! I’m truly surprised you hated them so much. Yeah, the middle is like a cinnamon-caramel filling, they are honestly EXCELLENT from the location on Vermont in Los Angeles, crispy-fried and doughy, very balanced. Maybe your location just didn’t do them right?
