Review: Extra Long Pulled Pork Sandwich from Burger King

You can usually tell when summer is coming when Burger King starts featuring barbecue sauce on their sandwiches.  The latest from BK is the new Extra Long Pulled Pork Sandwich and for a limited time it’s a part of the 2 for $5 Mix & Match deal.BK Pulled Pork 1Burger King describes their new Extra Long Pulled Pork Sandwich like this:

Our Extra Long Pulled Pork Sandwich features tender pulled pork in a sweet and smoky barbecue sauce, topped with freshly cut onions, crunchy pickles, all served on a warm toasted hoagie bun.

The 2 for $5 deal is a decent fast food value which also includes the choices of the Original Chicken Sandwich, Big King, and Big Fish Sandwich.  Buying the Extra Long Pulled Pork Sandwich alone cost me $3.69.BK Pulled Pork 2We’re no strangers to Burger King and barbecue.  Around this time last year the Extra Long BBQ Cheeseburger was available.  There’s also the Rodeo Chicken Sandwich and the classic Rodeo Cheeseburger to consider… and let’s not forget the surprisingly good $1.00 BBQ Rib Sandwich and the pricier Rib Sandwich.  Oh and I didn’t forget about you Memphis BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich.  I’ll stop the shout outs at six, but the point I’m making here is Burger King has offered a bunch of items with BBQ sauce.  So the new Extra Long Pulled Pork Sandwich is definitely not a stretch into unfamiliar territory for BK.  This isn’t a bad trend to continue with because the barbecue sauce Burger King uses is pretty good and if you can manage to not mess up the sauce, you’ve probably created a solid fast food sandwich.  With all that said, the Extra Long Pulled Pork Sandwich still turned out to be the worst barbecue menu item I’ve ever had from BK

BK Pulled Pork 3I found the pulled pork to be mushy with the consistency of a pile of wet hair.  There were very few chunky pieces and for the most part it was like a thick paste of pressed pork strings.  The barbecue sauce couldn’t save this sandwich as it tasted mostly sweet with a hint of tanginess.  There were no spicy or smoky qualities to the barbecue sauce like you get from the Rodeo products so the flavor is predominantly one-dimensional.  The sauce was soaked into the pulled pork to the point where it was more like dried paint than a fresh saucy coat. I found the rings of raw onion to be a little less than crisp and fresh, but the pickles were decently crunchy in spots with a muted sour punch.  The toasted hoagie sesame seed bun was pretty good, but I just wish BK would’ve put something worth eating inside it.BK Pulled Pork 4Luckily there are other barbecue options on the BK menu that can help you with your fast food BBQ fix.  The Extra Long Pulled Pork Sandwich from Burger King is this years YUMBO.

Pros: Bread and pickles were the best of a bad lot.

Cons: Offputting shredded pork consistency. Barbecue sauce was mostly sweet and lacked an overall complete flavor.

    And in no surprise to anyone on here it looks like a total piece of crap. Impressively it looks even worse than I imagined it would be. I wouldn’t even pay $1 for this, probably wouldn’t even eat it for free.

      I’d certainly agree the creations are lazy, but Burger King is doing very well now. It’s actually insanely impressive how well they’ve been doing.

        How are they doing well? The food is still a nasty and overpriced shell of it’s former self and I never see anyone in their drive-thru anymore. I wouldn’t be shocked to see tumble weeds blowing through their parking lots. Doesn’t matter where I go in the state, it’s the same. They’re all sad and empty looking for the most part.

        They can’t sell 10 nuggets for $1.49 forever. I was wondering if the Tim Hortons merger had anything to do with their somehow better sales. Every time I go past BK it’s empty.

    Yeah, I actually didn’t mind that $1 rib sandwich, but I seemed to remember getting a hard thing in it once, which wasn’t so swell.

    Wish I would of read the review before buying this for lunch. It looked nothing like how it was presented in the ads. I think this local convenience store by me served a better tasting pulled pork sandwich than this. This was just blegh.

    I find it difficult to believe that the sandwich is only 370 calories. Their other new sandwich, the A-1 mozzarella cheeseburger, is something like 800 calories and even their chicken sandwich (which uses the same hoagie bun as this pulled pork sandwich) is 640 calories.

        Eh. Sounds about right to me. Maybe 100 calories per slice of bread, pickles and onion combine for maybe 25, and then 245 left for the putrid drain hair and BBQ sauce. Seems plausible.

      The calories are from fat. The burger is a double and the chicken is battered and fried. Pork generally isn’t as fatty. but who knows what this really is…

      The A1 burger I believe uses the whopper patty, and those pack a huge punch of calorie content just from fat calories alone, not even counting the bacon.

    I know this sandwich is revolting and the idea of warmed over BBQ from a tub from BK is also revolting…but i honestly don’t see why a fast food place couldn’t at least make this passable. Even if it wasn’t smoked and it was essentially like a crock pot pulled pork, it could still be good if it was made in store, and doesn’t really require a whole lot of effort or tending to. Plus it’s a fairly inexpensive cut of meat.

      The Wendy’s pulled pork sandwich was decent and Burgerville is currently is offering a pulled pork sandwich, so it can be done.

    I tried the 2 for $5 deal. I enjoyed the sandwiches and thought they tasted excellent. Not as good as those from a restaurant specializing in BBQ. But, good value for the price. I definitely will return to BK for more.

    I just got home with my 2 for $5 extra long bbq pulled pork sandwiches from BK.
    I opened the first one and couldn’t believe my eyes.
    the top bun was dryer than the Sahara. The bottom bun…not much better at all. The “bbq pulled pork” was basically non-existent, as was any sign of sauce of any kind, in fact, there were completely empty spots where the pork should have been!! The three onion rings and pickles were average fast food size quality.
    Overall absolutely NOT worth even bothering with!!!

      I think it was a major goof to not just put this on a regular round bun. It looks like they are really spreading the pork thin to make it fit the long bun. If they had put the same amount of pork on a small round bun it would make the pork/bun ratio work better.

    There is no way in the world I could dare call this a “EXTRA LONG” sandwich, at best mine was six inches and anything negative you read in the above comments is absolutely true. The onions were thin and stringy and the pickles were soggy and bland.

    I work at Burger King and I have to say that MOST of our food really is nasty and not worth the price. I did however REALLY enjoy the Yumbo (add onion and a little mustard, YUM!) and the Pulled Pork Sandwich (Add BBQ sauce) and I don’t know what is in THAT sandwich…but looking at the picture, out pork doesn’t look like that at the location I work at…that looks…ew.

    This has got to be THE MOST disgusting sandwich I’ve ever had from BK.
    I generally like pulled pork sandwiches, but I think Ryan described it perfectly as a “pile of wet hair.”

    This consistency and texture of the “meat” literally made me gag. I took two bites and threw the rest out. And even being smothered in sauce, I could still taste the poor grade pork.

    I just had one of these and then had to look up the review to see if I got a lemon. Mine was seriously lacking in pork (similar to pics above) such that I decided it best to throw away the top half of the bun, remove the pickle and onion, scrape the meat over to one side of the bun, add back the pickle and onion and fold the bottom bun in half. It was still under-stuffed. While edible, this is one of the wost edible pulled port sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. It might be worth it if it was loaded up and you were on a budget, but this sandwich is not good and is also a poor value.

    Does Burger King have 2 kinds of pulled pork BBQ Sandwiches??All Summer I have had 4 that were sweet,and the last time I got one it was not sweet tasting,but nasty and so spicey and firey I couldn’t eat it.It burned my mouth tissues ,I didn’t ask for spicey.I called bac to complain and the girl was rude and said it was the same sauce they had had all Summer when I told her it wasn’t the sweet kind I had eaten all Summer,and that it was so nasty and spicy I would be unable to eat it at all.

    I, personally LOVE this sandwich, and look forward to it, and get it as often as I can! My only 2 issues are that their “extra long” roll is not much more area than a sandwich bun/roll, and therefore, it should be kept a 2/$5. Cant comment on onions or pickles, I get mine without…
