Review: Croissant Donut from Dunkin’ Donuts

The croissant became the latest victim of trendy food products when someone decided to combine it with a glazed donut.  Dunkin’ Donuts jumped on this trend and thankfully their Croissant Donut has been given a national release.

Croissant Donut The Croissant Donut from Dunkin’ Donuts is described as a “delicate and flaky croissant ring that is glazed like a donut.”  I purchased my Croissant Donut for $2.49 and for a comparison, I also picked up a regular glazed donut.  First thing that jumped out at me was the price when compared to the glazed donut.  Your standard glazed donut at Dunkin’ Donuts costs $0.99… so I can get five glazed donuts for the price of two Croissant Donuts?  This better be good.

Croissant Donut 2 Yeah the Croissant Donut was good, but nothing so different from a regular glazed donut that makes it really worth a repeat purchase.  Once the novelty of the Croissant Donut wore off (two bites in), it’s pretty forgettable.  Most of the impact is from the sugary glaze and both products are bathed in it.  Texture-wise, the Croissant Donut has “24 layers of buttery dough” to work through so it’s a little bigger than a glazed donut, and a lot denser for sure.   The thickness and multiple layers made for a bigger mess as the tougher chew facilitates the hardened glaze coating to crumble and flake off with each bite.  With a regular glazed donut the glaze sticks on like a sugar skin while the Croissant Donut glaze is more shell-like.

Croissant Donut Dunkin The Croissant Donut is a tasty product yet doesn’t seperate itself enough from the much cheaper, simple glazed donut to truly win me over.  I’m happy Dunkin’ Donuts came out with this because it satisfied my curiosity. I feel I can continue on with the cheaper option and honestly say I’m not missing much.

Pros: Mmmmm, 24 layers of buttery dough. Tasty of course.... all that sugary glaze.

Cons: $2.49 Croissant Donut vs. a $0.99 regular glazed donut. Grubbing on the go is a messy challenge.

Tried it. It tasty but needs a cream filling. I could do similar at home for cheap and still crank out a dozen
