Fast Food Review: New Jalapeno & Cheddar BK Stuffed Steakhouse Burger from Burger King
OK folks, this is one of those “taking it for the team” moments. I did not want to try this new burger from Burger King. I fear this new burger from Burger King. I dread the thought of what damage this burger will do to my insides. The new Jalapeno & Cheddar BK Stuffed Steakhouse Burger is one of those items that I’d shy away from if not for GrubGrade. I’ve got a stomachache right now thanks to my curiosity and dedication. Shower me with praise my good people! I deserve it.
Other than my Cheeburger Pounder Challenge video, you won’t normally catch me and a big, greasy burger in a warm embrace. Don’t get me wrong, I can eat… and eat a lot. But I’d rather have a nice variety of smaller items rather than one big, fat item that will have me bored half way through finishing it. Spending $3.99 on a burger isn’t really my thing. I’d rather take a glance at the value menu and get 3 or 4 different choices for around the same price. $3.99 for a big burger combo’d with fries and a drink and you’re usually looking at over 6 bucks of grub. I rarely get fast food drinks and I’m only a fan of a fries at a couple of places. So the realm of a big burger combo is just not my thing. On this day, I just felt so out of place, but trudged forward and ordered this new behemoth from Burger King.
By now you must be thinking this burger sucked right? Well, surprisingly, it did not suck. I’m super critical of Burger King on a lot of their menu items, but this spicy burger was actually good. I wont go as far as to say it was anything great or exceptional on any level… better than average suits it well. The Jalapeno & Cheddar BK Stuffed Steakhouse infuses it’s nearly half pound beef patty with cheddar and jalapeno peppers. This burger also has a light slathering of a mayo-based poblano sauce on the bottom of the top bun mixed in with the lettuce. Everyone agrees with me that Burger King lettuce is terrible correct? OK, let’s not go on and on about it. The tomatoes at BK are usually pretty sub par too, but on this early afternoon they weren’t bad at all. Heat-wise, the jalapeno-infused burger patty and poblano pepper sauce make a medium spicy mix that won’t do too much damage if you’re a wuss like me. I like when something has what I describe as a “tasty heat”. If it’s going to be spicy, let’s make sure it’s also got some flavor to it. Sometimes heat can be so overwhelming that it can be more painful than enjoyable. I wouldn’t really expect pain out of a chain restaurant like BK, but you never know. Although the burger patty had cheddar inside it, I wouldn’t necessarily describe it as “stuffed”. It’s visible, but not really too noticeable. If anything, it just give the burger patty a bit more weight to it, but not much else.
I liked the new Jalapeno & Cheddar BK Stuffed Steakhouse Burger. Would I be crazy enough about it to order it again? Meh, probably not. The burger was filling and had a smoky-peppery flavor that would be a welcome taste in a smaller value-sized burger. If it wasn’t 4 bucks and a strain on the old ticker, I’d consider adding it to my rotation.
Pros: Tasty heat. Nice, seared edges... perfectly cooked. Bun. Surprisingly decent tomatoes. Better than the Whiplash Whopper
Cons: Terrible, wilted, typical BK lettuce. Your aching heart. Little cheese impact. Yeah it gave me a stomachache.
