Fast Food Review: Mini Blueberry Biscuits from Burger King

Burger King recently debuted a bunch of new menu items to their breakfast menu.  Currently, BK is underway with an ad campaign (how annoying are those commercials?) focused on their new morning lineup.  While breakfast sandwiches will always find a place on breakfast menus, the sweets are often overlooked.  One of the new items just released to fit into the “sweet” category, the Mini Blueberry Biscuits.

The Mini Blueberry Biscuits are described like this

The King knew you’d be hungry, so he baked up some biscuits.  Enjoy four mini blueberry biscuits with sweet tasty icing dip on the side.  Go ahead, double dip them.  We won’t tell.

The Mini Blueberry Biscuits are on the BK Breakfast Value Menu and cost just $1.00 for the pack of 4.  I’m not going to totally hammer these biscuits because they are pretty much what I expected for a dollar.  You’re getting some crusty, sweet blueberry infused nuggets that pack a sugary punch. The additional icing for dipping is overkill, but you should’ve expected that.  30 grams of sugar and 15 grams of saturated fat… sheesh. I don’t know about you, but even if it’s a dollar, it’s not really worth it for that much saturated fat.  You’re not getting a filling meal that will leave you satisfied, but you are getting something to calm down your sugar craving.  My biscuits came pretty piping hot and were small enough to just pop in my mouth all at once (one at a time of course).  These biscuits were a little on the dry side so you feel almost forced to use the icing.

Should you pick up a 4-pack of these Mini Blueberry Biscuits?  It’s a coin flip really.  If you have a sweet tooth and not a care in the world for all that saturated fat, go for it. $1.00 is hard to beat these days for giving new menu items a try. I’m hearing rumblings of the other new BK breakfast offerings coming up way short.  These mini biscuits will meet expectations if you keep your expectations relatively low.  I went in expecting mediocrity, and they hit the mark.

Pros: Just $1.00. Satisfies a sweet tooth. Decent packaging for grubbing on the go.

Cons: A little too dry and crusty. Lots of sugar and saturated fat. A lot sweeter than it needs to be.

“Go ahead and double dip, we won’t tell”? HUH – From the functions I have been to and the kids that I host at our home I am pretty sure there are very few people in the US that know what double dipping is – or if they do they don’t heed the etiquette at a buffet or party.
[Sorry the line just made me laugh. Typical BK]

The do look very blueberry tho’. I’d skip the sugar and wash them down with an oj.

PS I certainly wasn’t implying any of the lovely readers of grub grade of this faux pas.

I took that line to be a pop-culture Seinfeld reference (where George is accused of double-dipping a chip) Is Seinfeld old enough now that references to it are lost on the kids? *sigh*

Skip sugar and wash them down with OJ? That makes no sense because juices are sugar water. Fruit juices are basically non- carbonated soda with some vitamins.

Do not attempt to jump out of a second-story window. Jumping through glass at ground level and biking while distracted by a hot chick are okay, though.

I read another review on Serious Eats (I believe) who really liked them and said they would be their new go to food. I doubted that review, doesn’t seem possible these could be that good. Good to see another opinion. Definitely not worth the the fat and sugar.

I actually didn’t think these were that bad. Maybe it was just the franchise I went to, but I actually found the biscuits a lot softer than I had anticipated (from the picture I was thinking they would be kind of hard). In fact, they were so soft, that they tended to break apart when I went to dip them in the icing, which was annoying.

Basically, better than I was expecting, but not something I would get again (I prefer some protein in my breakfast).

This does not impress me BK. What would impress me is a breakfast sandwich with a layer of eggs, a sausage patty, bacon, cheese, and a huge blueberry muffin cut through the middle and used as the sandwich’s bun.

I just can’t stand the icing, if it is the same icing dip they’ve used in the past. It is so sweet it makes my teeth hurt. For only $1, I will be trying these the next time I go to Burger King for breakfast. Now, if they can just get some good sausage gravy, my boyfriend will actually go with me.

I would rather BK work on making their current menu items better instead wasting time and coming out with new items. They could start with their bacon and go from there.

Burger King is ewww. But I want summa those muffins. I never turn down a muffin that says hello.
