Simple food at its finest. A delicious hot dog surrounded in sweet corn batter and fried to a crispy golden brown. Try it with some mustard or ketchup if you want. It’s like hot dog utopia on a stick.

Our new Boneless Rib Sandwich combines a juicy boneless rib patty with a sweet and tangy BBQ Sauce, and topped with crispy bread and butter pickles, all on a warm toasted artisan style bun.

The sandwich comes packaged in a butcher paper style wrapping to get you thinking you’ve got some real barbecue in your hands.  When I unwrapped the Rib Sandwich, the first thought that came to mind was, “Where’s the BBQ sauce?”.Upon first inspection, the BBQ sauce was there, albeit applied sparingly on the boneless rib patty.  A little further digging around I realized that most of the BBQ sauce was hidden under a four bread and butter pickles.  I really dislike the sour pickles in the McRib sandwich and I expected the same with the BK Rib Sandwich.  Why ruin a BBQ rib sandwich with pickles?  I like pickles in the right situation, but I never understood the point with the McDonald’s McRib.  Burger King including pickles in their sandwich appeared to be an obvious copycat move, but at first taste I was surprised at how much I didn’t mind them.  The sweetness of the thicker-cut pickles worked so much better than I thought.The flavor of the bread and butter pickles worked with this sandwich because the BBQ sauce was more spicy than sweet.  The BBQ sauce is advertised as “sweet & tangy” and I’d describe it more as a peppery and mildly spicy.  While the McDonald’s McRib is drenched in sauce, the BK Rib Sandwich is obviously sadly sparse.  I did not find any issue with the lack of sauce while eating the sandwich and felt each bite had just enough of each ingredient. I’m shocked right now considering I haven’t completely buried the BK Rib Sandwich in insults.  It doesn’t feel right to have nothing awful to say about this sandwich.  The Rib Sandwich cost me $3.79 and it’s not too filling, but I feel if you can stay within 50 cents of being a fairly priced fast food item, I won’t mind it too much.   With that said, $3.79 for the sandwich alone isn’t a check mark in the “great value” column. The “warm toasted artisan style bun” wasn’t particularly warm or toasty, but it provided a stable base.  Although it did its job keeping everything intact for grubbing on the go, it wasn’t anything other than just about average.I guess since I have love for the BK Rodeo Cheeseburger, another Burger King item with BBQ sauce on it would likely get my approval.  When you break it all down, if I don’t like the sauce, I won’t like the sandwich.  The BBQ sauce really works for this item.  I obviously won’t be comparing it to Franklin’s, but for fast food it was more than OK with me.  A fair fight would be pitting the BK Rib Sandwich against the McDonald’s McRib and Burger King is the clear winner for me.  Like most of my readers, I expected this to suck.  After my first taste, I found it quite decent.
