Hitting the Road: GrubGrade in Michigan

August 29, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Hitting the Road, Polls

Hey everyone, I’m in Ann Arbor, Michigan for a Domino’s Pizza blogger event going on tomorrow.  So maybe I’ll let them know about my idea of a pizza topped with Buffalo Chicken Kickers?  We’ll see…  So Domino’s has had a big year with an overhaul to their pizzas with changes to their sauce, cheese and crust.  So putting the BIG 3 against one another, which one is your favorite?

How Do You Like Your Peanut Butter Sandwich?

August 28, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Observations, Polls

Apparently August is National Sandwich Month… Let’s talk peanut butter!  How do you like your peanut butter sandwich? I’m not just talking to the 2nd graders out there, I’m talking to those yet to grow out of the joy of a simple PB sandwich.  Well some PB sandwiches aren’t so simple… I’m not a traditional creamy peanut butter and grape jelly on crust-less white bread type of person.

I like crunchy peanut butter, fresh cut apples and honey on a heartier multi-grain sliced bread. I recently did a guest post for I Ate A Pie showing off my creation.  So what’s in your combo?  Bananas? Marshmallow fluff?  Jelly?

August 26, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Polls

Recently, Popeyes Spicy and Mild Bonafide® bone-in fried chicken was the favorite in a national taste test against KFC® Original Recipe® fried chicken.

Who would you put at the top? Time for a poll:

What Do You Think Of Dairy Queen’s Mini Blizzard?

August 20, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News, Observations, Polls

Back in April we brought you news of a new Blizzard size coming to Dairy Queen… the time is here and in full swing!  Sometimes, I’m cool with not consuming a day’s worth of calories with a simple dessert.  That’s why the new Dairy Queen Mini Blizzard is a welcome change and long overdue.  A cheaper option in a smaller package… Thank You DQ!!!

What do you think of the new smaller DQ Blizzard option? Leave a comment and I’ll pick a winner for a Dairy Queen $5.00 gift card.  Sound good?

GG List: Top Ten BBQ/Cookout Foods

May 31, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Polls

The cookout season is here!  Seems like a good time for a list.  I’ve listed below my “Top Ten BBQ/Cookout Foods”.  What did I leave off the list?  What’s in your top ten?

  1. Hamburgers
  2. Macaroni Salad
  3. Chips
  4. Potato Salad
  5. Hot Dogs / Sausages
  6. Baked Beans
  7. Chicken
  8. Corn on the Cob
  9. Pasta Salad
  10. Steak

It’s tough to pick just ten items.  I didn’t put beer or any other type of beverage because I said “food” and not “food and drink”.  That being said, what’s a good cookout without a cold beer?  If you noticed, I left out ribs… and I’m ready to face your insults for pasta salad over steak.  Let me have it!  I can take it!

GG Poll: Salsa or Guacamole

April 24, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Polls

The great debate to win the hearts of chips everywhere. If you could have just one, would you choose salsa or guacamole? This is an extremely tough choice and a decision I hope I never have to make.  I hope to always have both salsa and avocados handy, but if I really had to choose just one, which would get my vote?  To some out there, this decision might be easy…difficult decision for me.

Best/Worst Leftovers: This Is What Happens When You’ve Had A Bad Week

April 16, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Polls

One of the longest work weeks ever.  It’s Friday and I could sleep til Monday.  It’s the weekend and I’m too tired to move.  About 5 hours ago I had energy and now it has been spent… I’ve given up and given in.  I’m craving Chinese food and there are 19 Chinese spots in my town.  After a little research, it turns out that one of the higher ranked places is located less than a mile from me.  There is a $20.00 minimum for delivery.  I live alone, have no guests and like I said…too tired to move.  So yeah, I just ordered $21.47 worth of Chinese delivery from a place that’s walking distance away.  Me=Lazy.  This grub should be the knock-out punch I’m looking for.

1.  Shrimp Fried RicePt (X1 $5.25)
2.  Sweet & Sour ChickenPt (X1 $5.75)
3.  Fried Dumplings ( 8 pcs) (X1 $5.25)
4.  Spring Roll (X1 $1.30)
5.  Crabmeat & Cream Cheese Egg Roll (1) (X1 $1.50)
6.  Roast Pork Egg Roll (1) (X1 $1.20)

I’ve done a lot of running the last few days and what better way to refuel than with greasy Chinese food right?  There’s no way I’ll be finishing all this food tonight so there will be leftovers.  That brings me to a great question I have for you all.  What food is best as leftovers?  What’s the worst? I would have to say pizza is the best and french fries are the worst.  What’s your take?

What’s Your Favorite Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Flavor?

April 08, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Hitting the Road, Polls

Hello GrubGrade readers.  I’m currently blogging from rainy South Burlington, Vermont.  I’m a few hours away from exploring the ins and outs of the Ben & Jerry’s company.  Tours and tastings are in my near future and I thought it would be fun to find out a little something about the audience.  I recently downed a pint of Chocolate Macadamia and my eyes are wide for what’s to come later today.  So I’m sure there are tons of ice cream fans out there and I’d like to know…What’s Your Favorite Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Flavor?  If you had the chance to create your own flavor combo, what would you make?

If it were up to me, I’d probably create something like vanilla ice cream with dark chocolate swirls and pieces of dark chocolate covered almonds.  Or maybe vanilla ice cream with caramels swirls and milk chocolate covered waffle cone pieces.  What do you think?  Not really too creative but I’m sure it’s tasty.  I’m sort of clueless and these might already be available.  Anyway, leave a comment and join in with the discussion.  I’m planning a Hitting the Road post on this Ben & Jerry’s experience next week so stay tuned and thanks for reading.

Grubbing at Nationals Park: What’s Your Favorite Ballpark Grub?

April 05, 2010 By: Ryan Category: Food News, Hitting the Road, Observations, Polls

It’s opening day for baseball and all I can think about is the grub.  See, my attention span for baseball is almost as weak as my attention span for women’s field hockey.  Well maybe I’m exaggerating, but seriously, it’s tough to follow a sport that has a 162-game regular season.  So when I think opening day baseball, I think of how meaningless it really is.  My focus turns to the feel of being at the ball game in person.  The sights, sounds and smells bring a lot to the experience.

For a semi-pro grubber like myself, I’m thinking of all the ballpark food.  I’ve visited the Washington Nationals ballpark a few times in the last couple of years and of course have accumulated some pictures of the food.  Why focus on the worst team in baseball when there are “W” shaped soft pretzels to be had?

This post is just an excuse to share these pictures and to ask you all a very important question. What is your favorite ballpark grub? Let’s start a conversation GrubGrade readers.  Where are you from?  What’s the best ballpark experience?
