A Closer Look at the Quesalupa from Taco Bell

Here’s another look at the new Quesalupa from Taco Bell that is currently available in test market Toledo, Ohio.   GrubGrade reader Josh sent me some pics of the Quesalupa which features a cheese-stuffed shell.

Quesalupa Taco BellThis cross between quesadilla and a chalupa is priced at $2.99 and might see a nationwide release if things go well in its test run.  Want to try it?  Taco Bell wants you to “Tweet using #Quesalupa and let Toledo know America is counting on them.”  The official Taco Bell description of the Quesalupa reads:

The Quesalupa has melted pepper jack cheese stuffed inside a flaky, crispy shell.  It’s layered with premium seasoned beef, crisp lettuce, real cheddar cheese, reduced-fat sour cream and diced ripe tomatoes.

Surely this is planned to go national from the beginning, they want to drum up social media buzz…

I love Chalupas and this new one sounds delicious.

  3. MP says:

    It looks pretty small.

I believe it’s the same chalupa shell that they have always used. The size will be familiar to those who know it’s regular size

I’ll try it. The melted Pepper Jack sounds better than the Cheez Whiz-esque “melted cheese” they often use in their concoctions.

I live about 45 minutes to an hour from the Toledo area and I drove to a Toledo area Taco Bell and had one of these after all the postings I have seen between here and Taco Bell’s twitter account.

Chalupas are one of my all time favorite things of any fast food place ever and I am a huge fan of Taco Bell. Even when I am burnt out on Taco Bell, I will still eat Chalupas to my heart’s content, they are delicious.

Having said that, I must also say I am not a fan of pepper jack cheese in anyway, but there is alot of it inside the Quesalupa shell. The fact that it is also a Chalupa is also not lost amongst this, beef, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream, but the cheese does dominate the thing itself.

As big of a fan of Dorito Locos Tacos and Quesaritos as I am, this thing is absolutely delicious! Some people might be off put by all of the cheese, but if you love Chalupas or pepper jack cheese, or just want to try the latest thing, give this a go. I really hope Taco Bell launches this thing nationwide, I will be sad if not. It is also more filling than the regular Chalupa due to all of the cheese.

It is available as a combo for $4.99 with a taco and a large drink. I will probably run to Toledo again for this sometime in the next couple weeks.

I’ve been contemplating making the hour and a half trip to Toledo to try these since Chalupas are one of my favorite items at Taco Bell. It seems like you feel it is well worth it to make the drive so I’m thinking I’m going to head out and try one today 🙂

I love pepper jack cheese, so if they’re as cheesy as you say they are, I ‘ll have to give it a try when it rolls out on a national level.

Had a Quesalupa Supreme with guacamole. It is larger than a regular chalupa. Too many differing tastes with the pepper jack cheese. Line was around the entire building that night, over a dozen in the drive-through.

I live in Saarbrucken, Germany. We don’t have Taco Bell here and when I heard about this new Chalupa, I took a flight to NYC to try it out!

What can I say… AWESOME !!!!! One of the best Chalupas I ever had, wish I could have one every day!
